right. see you in ten. thank you. philadelphia councilman david oh is back with his family after a run-in with a robber. he was stabbed but had a successful surgery and is recovering. meantime, police are looking for the suspect in the case. nbc10's katy zachry has more. we're hearing from the councilman about the incident. what's he saying? >> reporter: now that councilman oh is back home recovering, police in southwest philadelphia are focused on finding his attacker who was last seen running away from the scene near 58th and thomas avenue. councilman oh talked to us about the attack on his doorstep yesterday after he was discharged from penn presbyterian. he eaven showed where he was stabbed and a cut on his arm that he got trying to defend himself from the attacker swinging the weapon at his face. he said the man who stabbed him outside his west philadelphia home wanted his keys and wallet. amazingly, councilman oh remained calm, trying to talk to the attacker through the whole ordeal. >> he kind of punched me, and i knew it was a weird punch. the way he punched me, i said, did you just stab me? he had. and i saw the weapon. >> reporter: here's the picture that councilman's staffers provided to us yesterday. this is his family with two of his four children in the hospital after he had made it out of surgery just fine at penn pre--y abo presbyterian hospital. police are asking the public -- especially people who live on the block of 58th and thom at avenue in west -- thomas avenue in west philadelphia, if they have private surveillance cameras that may have captured the attack. police are looking for video from that. reporting live in southwest philly, katy zachry, nbc10 news. >> thank you. certainly glad that councilman oh is recovering. here are some of the top stories we're following in the day ahead -- >> we begin in camden county with the final farewell for a helicopter pilot with ties to our nbc10 family. a visitation and funeral is scheduled today for michael murphy. he was training in inclement weather last week when his chopper crashed in new castle. murphy was a backup pilot for sky force 10. visitation and mass, christian burial, in atco begins at 9:00 this morning. in harrisburg, former penn state president graham spanier and two administrators will be sentenced in the jerry sandusky sex abuse case. he was convicted of child endangerment. former vice president shultz and gary curly pleaded guilty to the same charge. prosecutors say they covered up the child sex abuse by sandusky in 2001. the future of greek life at penn state could hinge on a family's emotional plea following a death of a pledge. the board of trustees says they'll consider a letter sent to them by the parents of timothy piazza at a special meaning today. the student died after -- special meeting today. the student died after falling at a frat party. 18 pledges are charged in the death. in a letter, his parents wrote, "our son died on your watch. we will never see him again because of the administration's failures to protect him and turning a blind eye to known problems. you now have an obligation to make sure this never happens again." in our county-by-county coverage, the borough of east greenboro is moving toward having its own police department. >> east greenville was covered by a police department but decided to form its own and partnership -- after its partnership expired. an interim police chief began yesterday. now, state police are handling most of the matters. if you live there, state police, while east greenville gets its department up and running. in bucks county, a school bus driver is being tested to see if he was under the influence while waiting in the bus line. police were called to the high school wednesday after employees suspected something was wrong. the middletown police chief says a breathalyzer test gave them probable cause to draw blood. those results should come back in a week or two. in camden county, police are asking for your help in finding a pair of movie theater bandits. investigators said they stole someone's wallet at the carmike theater in voorheis while the victim was watching the big screen. the bandits racked up more than $1,000 in charges at a nearby target store. in delaware county, police are investigating a pastor after they discovered illegal drugs at his church. monsignor gregory carlente recently quit his post in chadds fo ford. police are not saying what drugs were found. the pastor took medical leave prior to the resignation. it's 4:35. at least wlan lane or so can ge. no delays on the schuylkill expressway now. most likely they'll remove that in the next 20 minutes or so. if not, we'll definitely watch it for some delays. also watching for construction on the vine street expressway. we're closed in both directions. east and westbound now, in between broad street and the schuylkill expressway. closed for the next 20 minutes until 5:00 this morning. the 42 freeway over in jersey shore looks good. five minutes in both directions. north and south from 55 to the walt whitman bridge. to philly, speeds in the 60s. good to go out the door there. we'll end with mass transit. septa, new jersey transit, amtrak, and the patco speed line running on or close to schedule with no major problems to report. more updates for the rest here. you can drive down or take the cape may lucifer -- lewis ferry. there's not open now. there's another way to get around here, and that's by bicycle. you see a lot of people on bicycles, a good way to get around and to get exercise and to explore this area, as well. there are bike trails throughout the area that you can check that go through rehoboth, lewis. we stopped by atlantic cycles here. the owner told me they are busy all day now from open to close. he says the bike trail's about 17 miles altogether, and that's the most popular rides in the area. you get to see history, remnants of world war ii, and scenic views, as well, over the ocean and delaware bay. a lot of people are grabbing the bikes. >> it's a lot of work. this time of year, we're trying to get ready for the big push. enjoy life, ride a bike. you'll have a much better time on a bike. it's quite a long hang on if you try it by -- a long hike if you try it by foot. >> reporter: indeed it is. if you prefer walking on the boardwalk, perhaps, you might find yourself in front of an amusement park here that's been around for generations. and i take a wild ride on the newest attraction come i see you partially blocked with construction. you see one car at a time pretty much getting by. this is heading toward the boulevard northbound. you can still get there. it's not causing any backups on to the schuylkill. this is continuing on the schuylkill expressway westbound. you see with the construction there's a slowdown. we're not seeing backups. watching construction on the vine street expressway westbound, eastbound, closed now between broad street and the schuylkill expressway. both directions there. the last few days they've actually been picking this up a little bit early. a little before the 5:00 mark. it's still closed, so take the local vine. you should be good by the time you get there. watch for extra police activity and construction crews out there. that's what we want to be careful of. watching 295 around the black horse pike, everything looks good especially through the work zone here. northbound toward trenton, here is southbound toward maybe going to the 42 freeway or thunderstorms. overall, the temperatures for tomorrow looking really nice overall. for the most part. jersey shore, 78. a mix of sun and clouds. and delaware, your expected highs for tomorrow, mainly in the mid to upper 70s. the ten-day forecast brings us a cool doppl cooldown for this week. 77 on saturday, 80 on sunday. tracking those showers, possibly isolated thunderstorms. and then a chillier >> busy. doing yard work actually. i'm going to get muddy myself. the event benefits the national multiple sclerosis society. it runs tomorrow and sunday each morning at 9:00 a.m. >> jessie just did a mud run. next year we'll get hear in that. >> she's the one. a local veteran is getting a helping hand thanks to neighbors and businesses. >> next, how the community is rallying around the 92-year-old in the home he built with his own hands. plus, testing the waters. a delaware teen reaches out to carson wentz to help his class get out of a final exam. good morning, everyone. jessica boyington with you watching the roads and watching for construction spots. we're watching the schuylkill expressway's on ramp to the roosevelt boulevard. still blocked on the left lane, left shoulder there. traffic still is getting by with no backups on the schuylkill now. i'll keep my eyes on that and the vine when i come back. ♪ that's the sound of protests against a community leader. nbc10 was in north philadelphia yesterday. the crowd was calling for carolina cabrera degiorgio to step down from the largest serving latina group in philadelphia. he made headlines last month after being spotted at president trump's rally in harrisburg to celebrate his first 100 days in officers. she took photos while the president promised audience members he would build a wall along the u.s./mexico border. >> this president and administration has criminalized our communities over and over and over again. we are here to remind her of who she is. these are the people, and she should listen to them. >> during the protest yesterday, we saw neighbors peeking out of windows. last week she issued a statement saying she doesn't support president trump's policies but stands behind degiorgio. alec baldwin is raking in the bucks for new jersey democrats. the actor and donald trump impersonator helped raise more than $5 million at a political fundraiser last night. it's believed to be the most raised by either party at a single event in the state's history. the new jersey governor's office and all 120 seats in the legislature are up for grabs in november. and governor christie promising relief for atlantic city's casinos. he met with the heads of mgm and caesar's yesterday. he said the casino heads asked for more relief from rules and regulations that watch over the shore towns' gambling halls. the government did not give out details will be coming but said it would be put in place in the next 30 to 45 days. neighbors and businesses in one delaware county town are rallying around a world war ii vet who needs a helping hand. >> after 92-year-old james miller fell recently, a neighbor realized the home he built with his own hands needed work. she said local contractors and home depot didn't flinch when she asked for help with the renovation. they donated materials and a lot of their own time. >> just a miracle. the support that i've received stuns me. >> wawa's corporate office is down the road, and the owners have helped him preserve his land to protect it for future generations. mr. miller, thanks for your service. in montgomery county, the griffin quintuplets will be graduating a week from today. the five have been working at meadowwood senior living for the past three years. and last night the senior living center awarded them each a $1,000 scholarship. austin, dylan, evan, lindsay, and miranda will attend montgomery county community college in the fall. nbc10 has -- >> yeah. >> yeah. we've been following the quintuplets since birth. they were born in 1998 and spent weeks in the nicu. as you saw, they are thriving teenagers. good luck in school. >> good job. one, two, three -- >> area high school football players took the field at westchester university last night for the 19th annual valor bowl. the all-star game is a showcase for seniors, but it's much more than that. the players paired up with special olympians who also got to shine in the spotlight. >> they get to put on helmets, i'm pretty sure, and walk out with us. a great event. >> just to see a smile -- for me, to be able to put a smile on those kids' faces makes my day. >> that is awesome. how cool is that?
