>> reporter: the trial is expected to start this morning. yesterday, both sides were in court arguing about what should be allowed during the trial. perhaps the biggest issue of the day was the matter of a videotaped confession by eric frein after he was captured. late yesterday the judge ruled the video is okay to show the jury. eight women and four men will decide his fate. accused of shooting corporal brian dixon and trooper douglas. dixon was killed and douglas was injured. it's been 2.5 years since the shooting, and prosecutors are ready to get this in front of the jury. >> we'll be looking forward to starting the trial tomorrow and bringing justice forth on behalf of all the victims in this matter. >> reporter: prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in this case. the trial is expected to last several weeks. as for whether eric frein will take the stand, lawyers say that decision is up to him. live outside the belmont barracks, "nbc10 news today." >> thank you. former philadelphia district attorney lynn abraham is suing to have the current d.a., seth williams, removed from office. abraham and another lawyer argue that state law prevents williams from keeping his job because his law license is temporarily suspended. williams said he'll stay in office doing administrative work while fighting federal bribery and extortion charges. neither he nor his lawyer has commented on the lawsuit. investigators will be looking for the cause of this barn fire in bucks county. sky force at the point was on the scene last night. you see flames and smoke shooting into the sky. no one was hurt. a new jersey teen faces up to 15 years in prison after admitting that he plotted to kill the pope. santos colon pleaded guilty to the charges. prosecutors say the 17-year-old admitted to trying to hire a sniper to shoot pope francis during the pontiff's visit to philadelphia back in 2015. an undercover agent said he scaled buildings and climbed on roof to scout out the best sniper locations. 4:33, 60 degrees. police are looking for the men who opened gunfire on west style street. the pair opened bullets, and the school went into lockdown with parents trying to shield their children from the bodies in the grass. >> anywhere still young, they see -- they know what dead bodies are. come home and say, yeah, daddy, i seen a dead body. how am i supposed to feel about that? >> reporter: one of the two surviving shooting victims remains in extremely critical conditi condition. police say the gunmen may have driven away in a gray suv. investigators say the shooting may be linked to a neighborhood gang. in a separate case, a deadly crime spree is over. >> that word from philadelphia police after they arrested a teenage suspect. mcking stewart was wanted for one murder, two shootings, and seven robberies. those crimes happened within a six-block area of west philadelphia over the last two weeks. the crime spree began march 17th with a robbery of a cab driver near 59th and market streets. it would later include the murder of a 17-year-old at larchwood avenue. the victim was shot in the chest. nbc10 spoke exclusively to a woman who described the deadly gunfire. >> we were thinking it was a car backfiring or somebody's car fire going flat or whatever. and the next thing you know, a couple of seconds later, we heard another boom. >> reporter: police arrested stewart on friday at his mother's home in west philadelphia. today philadelphia's annual bridge walk for peace will commemorate the assassination of dr. martin luther king jr. on this day in 1968. sky force 10 was over last year's walk from old city across the ben franklin bridge to camden. today's event is set to begin at 6:00 this morning when the pedestrian walkway of the bridge opens. this is the 10th year for the peace walk, making it the nation's longest running commemoration of dr. king's assassination. happening today at the jersey shore, a new tool in the effort to stop terrorists will will go into play in atlantic city. the transportation security laboratory will open a new building today next to the airport. the government lab tests and develops security screening technology to find explosives. it was first created after the 1988 bombing of pan am 103 over lockerbie, scotland. the former president of mexico will speak at villanova university. vicente fox will in the morning, we see the rain moving into western burks county. those showers are on the move. they'll be heading toward philadelphia. mainly light showers philadelphia into south jersey at 11:00 this morning. and then this afternoon, we could see some heavy downpours, possibly even a thunderstorm. you see that line will be moving toward philadelphia around 2:00 in the afternoon. then pushing to the east, still a possibility of scattered, light showers during the afternoon. no big rain here or really heavy rainfall over a widespread area. we dry out for this evening. but there are more a derailment. five people were hurt. commuters in new york city were packed into penn station for hours yesterday because of delays after the accident. this is the second derailment in ten days. >> caught a drug smuggler while he pretended to be a pilot for delta airlines. he was carrying a bag that raised suspension at security at jfk airport. they found inside five pounds of cocaine worth about $85,000. he was dressed in a pilot's uniform and had two fake delta airlines i.d. badges with him. a new cell phone policy is in place at philadelphia's criminal justice center in center city. phones now go inside magnetically locked plastic pouches that can't be unlocked until you leave the building. you are allowed to hold on to those bags while you're in the building. the court system
