Reporter tracy, the strong earthquake caused homes to collapse on top of residents as they slept. Rescue workers in central italy say the death toll is now up to 73. First responders raced to dig survivors from the rubble, but the death toll is expected to rise as crews reach homes in hardertoreach areas. The mayor of hardhit town, amatrice said the town isnt hearing more. They joined red cross workers in the rescue effort. Several large aftershocks followed the initial quake, which hit at 3 36 a. M. , italian time. Take a look at this. One survivor was buried under so much rubble, only their arm was visible. A rescue worker was able to talk to that person and keep them calm until they could be rescued. The quake hit during the summer, when populations of the normally small towns are swelled by vacationers. A Rhode Island College Basketball Team is in rome for preseason training. Police say an exboyfriend tried twice to force his way into a womans row home on marco street in west philadelphia. The second time, he fought with the couple and the womans current boyfriend shot the intruder in the chest. He died at the hospital. The exs children with the woman were in the home when the shooting happened. Police interviewed the mom and are now looking for the current boyfriend. A 21yearold man is in the hospital after being shot outside a philadelphia home. Police were called to south 32nd street in grays ferry just after midnight. The victim was standing outside a friends house when a bullet struck him. Other bullets shattered a glass storm window in a door. The victim is in stable condition, so far, police have not arrested anyone. Philadelphia police are looking into a shooting that apparently stemmed from a fight in university city. Sky force 10 was over the scene last night. Investigators say a man was shot while a group of women was fighting at 39th and ludlow. The shooting victim is in stable condition. Now to camden county, where a husband is charged with murdering his wife. The young mother was found stabbed to death in collinswood. Witnesses say they heard Joseline Perez and Timothy Murphy fighting in their apartment at the heights of callingswood friday night. The couples three children were home during the attack, but were not physically hurt. A man accused of beating a toddler to death in a dispute over groceries is being held on 1 million bail this morning. Zachary tucochi stood with his head down in court yesterday as prosecutors talked about the final moments of his victims life. Prosecutors say he shoved his girlfriend saturday night in their pennsauken apartment because he was upset with the food that she bought. And when her 2yearold started to cry, he allegedly beat the boy to death. Afterwards, the toddlers family says they wished new jersey still had the death penalty. Because he should be put to sleep. Because he killed my grandson, so he should be killed. He shouldnt the be sitting in no cell for the rest of his life, eating, getting phone calls and writing letters. He should be dead, because my grandson is dead. Reporter the boys mother was also at the courthouse today, but said she could not bear being inside the courtroom for his hearing. New video this morning could help police catch a suspect wanted for multiple sexual assaults in philadelphia. The Surveillance Video shows a man reaching out and touching a woman inappropriately, as he rode past her on a bike, on south 8th street just after midnight on saturday, august 13th. At least three other similar incidents have happened in the same part of town this month. Investigators think the same suspect may be behind them all. More new video. This time it shows a robber in philadelphias southwark neighborhood. A man grabbed a woman from behind and choked her until she lost consciousness. When she came to, she said he was stealing her purse. Thats when bystanders chased the man away. If you recognize the suspect, call 911. Sky force 10 over a Law Enforcement exercise in montgomery county. The county sheriffs bomb squad joined the s. W. A. T. Teams from lower marion, abingdon and northtown for an fbi Training Exercise. They practiced searching for suspects on the water and dealing with possible booby traps. Well, it is the first full day of freedom for a man wrongly convicted of murder and rape. A man wrongly convicted of murder and rape, hes enjoying his first morning as a free man after being locked up for 25 years. Nbc 10 was there as Anthony Wright left the correctional facility in northeast philadelphia, yesterday. Hes been behind bars for 25 years. The jury acquitted the 44yearold after dna evidence proved his innocence in the death of a 77yearold woman in 1991. That evidence linked the crime to a man who died in 2013. Wright thanked the Innocence Project for helping him win a new trial. I feel like im the luckiest guy in the world. I feel like theyre my guardian angels. I feel like they saved my life. I want to do whatever my granddaughters want to do. I want to do whatever my grandson want to do. I want to just be grandpa. I just want to be dad wright is meeting with the jurors who acquitted him right now, in center city. Nbc 10s Monique Braxton is there for that meeting. Nine schools will be the first to become the hubs for social health and other neighborhood services. This is all part of mayor jim kenneys new Community Schools initiatives. The mayor will meet soon with the newly hired School Coordinator and then support staff, as they start a twoweek training boot camp. The schools will look at the needs in their neighborhoods and develop plans to meet those. Theyll start implementing those plans in december. The new Jersey Department of education will not stop a school from closing in eveson township. The school board voted to shut Florence Evans elementary next year. The mayor and city council sued to try to keep the school open, because many parents feel the longer commute to other schools would be a hardship. They cited steep drops in enrollments and a deficit of nearly 100 million a year for reasons for closing the school. Lots of sunshine and the humidity is still low, but its definitely warmer today. Were already up to 80 degrees at philadelphia, atlantic city, wilmington, and thats significantly warmer than it was at this time yesterday. 5 degrees warmer in philadelphia and wilmington. Allentown and trenton and mt. Holly, atlantic city, all 4 degrees warmer than yesterday. Yesterday we hit 83. So we could get closer to 86 or 7 today. Nothing but sunshine. Tonight, not as cool as the last two nights. Remember, isnt the suburbs, we were down in the 50s. Tomorrow morning, only in the 60s. Maybe even mid60s. But everybodys got sunshine this afternoon. Thats why you can see a little bit of that slowdown. Also, the university of pennsylvania, movein day is today. So spruce street is closed between 33rd and 38th streets. You might see some congestion around the area there as well. We watched this water main break earlier this morning, over in norristown, west johnson highway, thats still closed. Several storms also left behind damage in the northwestern part of the state. Storms moved through yesterday, taking down trees and power lines and damaging homes. Residents say what started as rain quickly turned into thunderstorms, then hail, then high winds. Officials expect cleanup efforts to last days. And heavy rain from that same system last night swamped parts of downtown omaha, nebraska. The storm packed high winds, which toppled trees and power lines here, too. The storm also knocked out power to some 19,000 homes. And in the meantime, our great weather continues. 80 degrees in philadelphia. Nothing but some high, thin clouds, sunshine reported all across the area. 77 degrees in the lehigh valley. Lets see whats going on at the shore right now. The ocean temperature, 74 degrees. A little bit of a land breeze, at least temporarily, allowing ventnor to get up to 84, summer point, 81. Cape may point, 78 degrees. So its another Beautiful Day at the shore. Temperatures are going to be going up. 83 yesterday, at least 85 today. Maybe a couple of Degrees Higher than that, and maybe close to 90 tomorrow. And then friday, looks like the mid90s plus high humidity making it feel like its 100 or even a little hotter. Nothing on the radar close by. The nearest showers have just moved past chicago. And the remnants of some of that could hit parts of the area tomorrow. So, nothing later today or tonight or tomorrow morning, as we go through the day tomorrow, there we are. Just some isolated, mainly light showers. Thats not very impressive, is it . And thats about our only rain risk for the next week or so. Tomorrow, were going to start noticing the humidity a little bit more. So packard park, 89, feeling like 90. Newtown square, 86. Feeling like 88. Same thing with why wine misting. Got to have high humidity for that kind of thing to happen. And also longport, 79, feeling like 86 degrees. Now, in the tropics, gaston is still way out in the eastern atlantic, likely to become a hurricane. Hermine has not even developed yet, but its pretty close to puerto rico. It is likely to develop. This is not the center of it. The center of it would be up in this area. And the computer models are showing this storm, whether it develops or not, having an impact. Gaston, in the meantime, looks like its going to be tracking way up to the northwest, in the middle of the atlantic ocean. So at least for the next week, were not concerned about that. But hermine, thats a different story. These different computer models tending to agree on a track through the bahamas, where the ocean is very warm and if other conditions are favorable, storms can develop and intensify very quickly. And then, a threat to florida, practically all of the computer models have it, at least very, very close to the state of florida. And then going into the gulf of mexico, you dont see any solutions taking it up the east coast. So we kind of remove that possibility and florida and the gulf of mexico, the main targets, coming up. As we go through the next few days, temperatures are going up. Humidity will be going up with it. So the temperature jump, from 85 to 92, well, its going to feel even more dramatic than that. Because were now 85 degrees, but were going to be feeling like its mid90s in the lehigh valley, but friday. And close to 100 in philadelphia. The jersey shore may be getting up near 90 on friday, too, with a bit of a land breeze. Thats going to be the critical thing there. And as we go through the rest of the ten days, theres the 94 friday, not quite as hot or humid over the weekend. But still pretty warm, and close to 90 degrees on monday, as well. Thanks, glenn.
