Septa executives predicted would be worse with more people returning to work after the holiday weekend. We came out to talk to passengers and see how the trains are moving. We found the later the morning, the longer the lines, with the regionals working on a modified saturday schedule, there are 120 fewer septa trains on the tracks. We saw conductors doing crowd control, making sure doors could close and assuring passengers more trains were coming. We have no room. You have to step off the train, please. You have to step off the train. There is no room. You cannot stand its an unfortunate problem. And i just think you have to have patience. I parked here, thinking there would be an option of a number of trains, but three have passed since ive been here. Septa tells us five lines had to be turned around. Express trains today due to crowding on the trains. They bypassed the glenside and jenkins town train station. Septa was able to get trains back up to passengers at those stations for service. So hopefully alls well at this hour. We also found out that amtrak is able to pick up 260 passengers today at the trenton line, at cornwell height station. Thats the first time that weve learned that amtrak is also trying to assist septa. Were going to be staying on top of the story today, and let you know the very latest. This excessive heat warning will run until friday. So for the rest of the week, expect afternoon highs in the mid90s and with the humidity, its going to feel around 100 degrees. If you look at that sevenday forecast at the bottom of the screen, that will show you how many days you can expect temperatures in the 90s. Look at the temperatures right now. It is almost 90 degrees in philadelphia. And its only 11 00 a. M. , although its 90 in mt. Holly, 88 in vineland, 87, dover. 88 in wilmington. Even in Atlantic City, the temperatures almost 90 degrees. Well be in the mid90s this afternoon. Its going to be really hot when you factor in the humidity, too. Again, feeling close to 100 degrees. A 13yearold boy is in stable condition after he was shot in the leg in philadelphias hunting park neighborhood. The incident started when a woman drove down the street last night. Neighbors yelled at her to slow down because kids were playing on the block. She left, but then police said she returned with a man who fired the into the crowd. They dont think the boy was the target. And new video to show you of a man breaking into a Family Dollar store in feltonville. This was around 3 30 in the morning on july 4th. Police say he got into the store by breaking a hole in the wall from a back alley. He took money, food, and cigarettes. If you happen to recognize him, youre asked to call police. And in kensington, police are looking for this man. He was caught on video going into someones car and stealing a pricey purse. This happened last month on grands back street. He opened the door to the car and took a gucci purse that was inside. It had everything in it, the owners money, social security, and drivers license. And more south Jersey Bureau officials in camden are asking for your help to track down the arsonist or arsonists that burned down more than a dozen homes. 911, what is your emergency . Hello, theres a fire a huge the fire you just heard the frantic 911 call from one of four fires in camden on friday. Since then, there have been a total of 14 fires, mostly in vacant home. A woman walks into a Cell Phone Store with her 6yearold, just steps away, and suddenly, a man reaches into the store, just simply snatches the girl. The mother was holding another child, runs out of the store, screaming. The man didnt get far. The witnesses say the little girl fell, causing the wouldbe kidnapper to lose his grip. Witnesses said the suspect had a strange reaction to being caught. He was smiling, like it was some kind of joke or something. Even though he got caught, it just letsmen how dangerous this world can really be. Investigators say the suspect may have been been under the influence of drugs. It all started when police got a call agent a driver who appeared drunk. The chase spanned two counties and reached 110 miles per hour. We have a heat wave in the forecast. Yesterday, we hit 89. So almost at 90, but technically, you need three days in a row of 90degree plus temperatures. Thats going to start today, mid90s, tomorrow and friday, 97 degrees. The average high, thats 87 degrees. So we are going to stay hot and this will start off your weekend, too, feeling near 100 degrees when you factor in the humidity. We have an excessive heat warning. Tomorrow, the thunderstorms do return in the afternoon, which for some of you will be good, because it will provide a little bit of relief with the hot temperatures. Thats the theme of an ongoing exhibit at the Barnes Foundation in philadelphia. And its called sun splash. And it features works by artist nari ward. Joining us now to tell us more is tom collins, executive director and president of the Barnes Foundation. Tom, welcome. Did i say that right . You did. When people go to museums, theyre looking at works of people who are long dead, but this exhibit really showcases works by a guy whos very much alive and very prolific. Tell us about nari and who he is and his background. Nari ward was born in jamaica, 1953, relocated to the United States as a young man, was educated in schools in the northeast, and has been working since the early 90s in harlem in new york. Tell us a little bit about some of his creations, what makes him so special. Nari works almost exclusively with materials that he finds Walking Around neighborhood streets. Principally in harlem, but other urban environments as well. He brings them together to craft these kinds of poetic monumental objects that tell very rich stories about the history of the african diaspara and the black experience in the United States. This is whats referred to as found objects. Things he just finds just walking the streets. Thats right. So im guessing, what, spray paint, just whatever it is that he finds. Its remarkable. He finds a way to make it art. Its really remarkable, what he finds. And thats one of the reasons the work is so powerful. That hes finding incredible found objects on the side of the road, and bringing them together in ways that tell stories, in part because you have associations with these things, because they exist in your environment as well. We were just talking during the break about the barnes and what a treasure it is here in our city, but how does this work and how does it fit in with the barnes Permanent Collection . Sure. Were west known for our collections of postimpressionist and early modernist art. But we also have an extraordinary collection of african art and design. It was one of dr. Barnes principle interests. And naris work draws on the history of tribal art making. It conducts directly with that part of our collection. Thats quite fascinating. The exhibit is called nari ward, sun splashed. This morning, the Consumer Product Safety Commission made the announcement. They receive 99 reports that the battery packs caught on fire or exploded, causing burns or property damage. The driver found the money in the backseat of his cab on saturday. He says he thought about taking the cash home, but decided to go to the police instead. They tracked down the man who left the money in the cab and it turns out it was a homeless man who had just cashed an inheritance check. Really, really good at it. So we came to first position dance studio in ardmore, montgomery county, for a lesson from instructor lisa. Erica dreams of teaching dance and owning her own studio some day. She knows its going to take hard work. You like learning . How come . Because it teaches me how to teach my sisters to dance different moves. She enjoys a lot of active stuff, football, basketball, dancing. She enjoys hanging out with her friends and talking. Ready . Go down to your split. Yes, very nice as much as erica loves dance, its not as important as finding her forever family, something shes dreamed of for years. The kind of family i would like to have is a family who would treat me well and give me rules to do. An ideal family for erica would be lovable interactive family, but one that has structure and set rules in place, because she does very well when shes given good direction. Well, if youve been in center city over the past few years, youve probably seen the new Mormon Temple rising above broad street. Its nearing completion and soon the public will be invited to take a look inside. Joining us now to tell us more is Senior Church leader, elder mylan kunz. Hes been a good friend. Full disclosure here, i myself am a latter day saint. Tell us the progress of the construction. The temple is complete, both inside and out. The Meeting House next door is about two weeks away from completion. And the visitors coming to the open house would have the opportunity to go into both the Meeting House and the temple itself. You mentioned that next month, people will have the chance to tour the temple. Tell us a little bit more about that. What people should expect to see and what a unique, really once in a lifetime opportunity this is for them to go through an lds temple. It really is. Most people have never seen the inside of an lds temple. So from august 10th through september 9th, theyll have the opportunity to go on a free tour. Now, i recommend very highly that they go to a website and reserve their tickets now. Its philadelphiamormontemple. Org. And a temple tour will consist of a short video, where it will present the purpose of a temple, as well as the significance to church members. They will then walk across the  street and tour all four levels of the temple, seeing all the significant rules and the beautiful workmanship there. And then theyll go to a reception area if they have any questions there. And even among latter day saints, they dont all get to go see the inside of a temple. This will be unique more people who are not of the lds faith. Lds members will be able go to the temple once its dedicated in september. And some new leaders have been appointed to oversee the temple. Tell us about them. Are they local or come from Salt Lake City . Two are from delaware and ones from pennsylvania. They will serve for three years. Its three couples that serve as a leadership team. This is bruce and nancy wynn and theyll be assisted by jim and nancy. Theyll serve three years in a voluntary role, fulltime, looking over the affairs and spiritual aspects of the temple. The philadelphia Mormon Temple will be Holding Public tours from august 10th through september 9th, except on sundays. You dont want to be outside for an extended period of time, the middle of the day like this, its going to be very hot, and aside from that, youll want to stay hydrated. It will be hot at the phillies game today. Live look at the radar, theres some rain south of sussex county. Theres a chance we could see a shower along the beaches today in sussex county. Otherwise, we dont have any rain relief in the forecast today, not until tomorrow afternoon. Were going to have maybe a few showers tomorrow afternoon, but its not going to be too much. If you do see the rain, nice relief, because it will feel near 100 degrees. Tomorrow, friday, saturday, all in the 90s with a few afternoon thunderstorms, but that is a heat wave. It starts with today and all we need for a heat wave is three days of 90degree plus temperatures. Going into the weekend, there you see those 90s on saturday. Sunday will be drier and temperatures still around 90, but now we look into next week. The heat is going to continue. It looks like around 90 degrees, still. So thats not going anywhere anytime soon. We still have the excessive heat warning from today until friday. So basically, that just says this could be potentially dangerous heat, when you factor in the humidity. Stay hydrated. You want to avoid several hours outside in this heat. Check on the elderly. Never leave children and pets in the car. That is a very bad idea. The temperature in a car shoots up incredibly quickly, when you have the doors and windows closed. And look at this heat across the board. You dont want to be doing that at all. We dont want to hear any of those stories happening. Be safe out there, definitely stay hydrated, especially if youre going to the phillies game today, its going to be a hot one.
