Mountains. A live look at camelback resort. Pocono mountains officially said many hotels in the area are near capacity and tourism records could be broken this weekend. We have Live Team Coverage of the start of this memorial day weekend. Lets begin with meteorologist bill henley here with our forecast. Morning, vai. A warm, sunny day so far. Quick warmup at the shore. Temperatures inland have made it to the 80s, but theres a nice breeze blowing off the ocean. The ocean is still cooler, even at cape may where the ocean water temperatures are in the 60s. 81 degrees inland. Right at the beach, 72 at ocean city. Atlantic city, 68 degrees. Mays landing, already in the 80s. Were seeing similar conditions around the rest of the area. Satellite and radar show no showers. We did have activity first thing this morning in allentown, Lehigh Valley, berks county saw some rain. Its now out of the picture, but were watching the radar through this afternoon, theres a good possibility we will see some showers and thunderstorms develop. Not going to be widespread rainfall. Before those happen, well, plenty of sunshine to enjoy. More muggy today. Already 81 degrees in new jersey and interior new jersey. At the shore, the temperatures right on the beach will be climbing into the low 80s or upper 70s to low 80s. The High Temperatures, 86 in new jersey. At the shore, 78 degrees. Near 90 degrees for the Lehigh Valley and delaware, and 90 this afternoon for philadelphia. Well go through the futurecast hour by hour when im back later this half hour to show you where it looks like the showers will pop up. Vai. Thank you, bill. Time for a check on the roads with first alert traffic reporter katy zachry. I have to think the roads may have thinned out because people have gotten a jump already. We saw a little excess volume this morning, but its a mixed bag. First, a look outside. This is route 309 at the pennsylvania turnpike. If youre headed to the pocono mountains, 309 looks good. 22, youre clear. 78, youre clear as well and the northeast extension, everything is running smoothly. Thats if youre headed northbound. If youre headed to the shore, well get to that in a second. Unfortunately, the majors in pennsylvania are a little slow going right now. Not because of any crashes out there. Just because of extra volume were seeing. That is an increase from midmorning. 95 southbound, youre going to be tapping the brakes, especially as you make your way through Bridge Street where there was Police Department activity that just clears and also gerard avenue. Thats a 19minute trip between woodhaven and the vine. 76 and 476 seeing slow going as well because of volume. The 42 freeway if youre headed northbound into center city, philadelphia, youll spend the Holiday Weekend there, a quick trip to the walt whitman bridge. 295 southbound, free asand clea of any issues. Taking a live look outside, this is around the hammingten area. Route 73, were seeing more cars. No issues to report on the ac expressway or garden state expressway. Now would be a great time to get out if youre headed to the shore points. I looked at our cameras and everything looks good to go there. Thank you. Our Team Coverage continues with matt delucia in ocean city. He tells us theres a lot to do down the shore this memorial day weekend. Plenty of action here in ocean city on the baurdwalk. You see all the folks getting out early for their morning jog or they got the bikes out, waiting all winter long and spring. Finally, the unofficial start of the Summer Season. Over here at wonderland pier, opening up the rides later on tonight, and also youve got the unlocking of the ocean, that will be happening just before noon, and then at noon, youll have a bunch of guys in suits and brief cases jumping into the ocean for a business persons plunge. So a lot of fun going on here in ocean city. We were in Atlantic City earlier today. They will be unlocking the ocean, the ceremony, if you will, at noon as well. So a lot of people down here having fun, getting a little bit of respite from the heat in this city, and looking ahead to a fun memorial day weekend. Were going to be down the shore throughout the week next week on nbc10 news today, 4 00 to 7 00 a. M. , a different shore destination, so join us. You wont want to miss it. People who live in this neighborhood know the victim as pastor ellie, and heres the type of person he was. He volunteered at this transitional housing Facility Ministry every single day. Thats what he was doing yesterday when he was trying to get back into his van, that is when he was struck and killed. He would take his shirt off his back and give it to people. This pastor is talking about his friend of ten years and his assistant pastor who everyone in this neighborhood knows as ellie. He came from preaching last night. Came from preaching. Every morning, he preached the word to us. He always encouraged us. Today, they have been encouraging one another after their dear froiend and mentor ws struck by a run away driver over night. The 57yearold had come to the soldiers of the Lord Ministry to drop residents off after preaching at a germantown church. The pastor even stayed long enough to help make sandwiches for residents. But he had to go home and get some sleep before work. He never made it. All of a sudden, somebody knock on the door and say that the man has been hit by a car. The pastor was struck as he tried to get in his van, which was parked in the 2100 block of front street. The driver never stopped. He comes in every day. He works with the boys. He brings the message of the word of god. He tries to make sure they go straight. And i just cant figure it out. I can tell you that police are in the area right now trying to talk to witnesses, see if theres any potential Surveillance Video. Police believe the driver was in a dark older model saab, possibly a late 90s early 2,000 model. They say the passenger side mirror of the vehicle should be heavily scraped. Doctors diagnosed a pennsylvania woman with having a new bacteria that certain antibiotics cannot fight. Researchers determine the woman carried a strain of e. Coli that is resistant to an antibiotic used as a last ditch effort to treat some superbugs. Officials say the case by itself is not cause for panic, but they worry the antibiotic resistant gene can spread to other types of bacteria that are already resistant to multiple drugs. Tom wolf said the state is working closely with the cdc and department of defense to come up with a response. We need to do a very comprehensive job protecting antibiotics so we can have them and our children can have them. Researchers have not said where in pennsylvania the woman is from. Meantime, the cdc is trying to figure out how the superbug got here. The woman had not traveled overseas in the past few months, and experts found it in pigs seven months ago and in a small number of People Living in china. The measures give the citys government up to five months to device a plan to balance its budget. Governor christie says hell decide quickly whether to sign or veto the legislation. The bill now goes to the senate. The measure would raise the current wage from 8. 38 to 10. 10 an hour on january 1st. Were already five degrees above that. Look at allentown, coatsville, trenton, mt. Holly, everybody in the 80s, even Atlantic City. These numbers for the most part are a bit warmer than yesterday. Two degrees warmer in philadelphia. Allentown is running a little behind yesterdays numbers as well as vineland and mt. Holly. Wilmington is three degrees warmer during the day today. Well see enough sunshine, the temperatures climbing to near 90 degrees inland, and it is not only hot, but also more humid, too, you can feel the humidity, and the warming trend, its riley started earlier in the week. Last weekend, the temperatures were in the 60s. Then we were in the 70s monday, into the 80s, and yesterday, we hit 90 degrees and back up to 90 again today. Some spots might even go a little higher this afternoon. If it doesnt happen today, it will happen tomorrow. And some changes ahead for this afternoon. We could see some scattered showers and possibly some thunderstorms. Right now, its dry for delaware and south jersey. Barely a cloud in the sky over philadelphia, trenton, and wilmington, but there are clouds farther north and west. Just northwest of the Lehigh Valley. We saw showers first thing this morning when we went on the air at 4 00 this morning, it was raining in allentown and easton. Those showers are out of the picture for the rest of the morning, but this afternoon, we may see popup showers during the heat of the day. And the futurecast showing at 3 00, a good chance well see some in new jersey and to the south, crossing delaware bay, and the western suburbs may see some of that activity. Thats a possibility as we go into the afternoon. Wont be an allday rainfall, and by 9 30 this evening, most of the area will be drying out. Keep an eye on the sky for a chance of those storms. Until they pop up, the temperatures keep climbing. 87, near 90 for bethlehem and easton, and a enough sunshine for readings in the low 90s in west chester. For philadelphia, less likely. Cant rule out a shower completely. 90 for fairmount, and in new jersey, clouds will be building. Keep an eye on the sky for a scattered shower. Not an allday rainfall. Mainly dry at the shore. Atlantic city and galloway into the low aths, and avalon will be in the upper 70s. Pretty good warmup for delaware, near 90 this afternoon for wilmington, partly sunny skies to mostly sunny skies for dover, and clouds building up late this afternoon will give us a chance of a shower. But most of the region is going to be seeing that warmup and dry conditions as we head into the Holiday Weekend. Rehoboth beach tomorrow, 77 degrees. A little cooler on sunday, and then a chance well see showers and possibly some thunderstorms for memorial day monday. Bethany beach, nice for tomorrow and sunday. Then that same possibility of showers and thunderstorms monday, and a threat thats going to be all day on memorial day. 78 degrees in ocean city, maryland. 75 on sunday, and a chance of some scattered showers and thunderstorms for memorial day. So those are the delaware beaches and into maryland. For inland areas, hot, humid. Keep an eye out for afternoon showers. Humid again tomorrow and hotter, up to 92 degrees. And near 90 on sunday. Then come memorial day, the clouds are hanging in there. And showers will be moving into philadelphia and most of the area, actually, 78 degrees. Clearing out for tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. Happening this weekend, the Wells Fargo Center will hand over the keys to organizers of the Democratic National convention, as we take a live look right now from south philadelphia at the wells fargo. The work is already well under way, but as nbc10s Tracy Davidson reports, preparations will really kick into high gear over the next two months. Its like building a city within a city. Youve got to have the structure, what the house needs to look like at the end, and then you start digging the foundation. The foundation is set. The planning has been going on for more than a year. Its a well oiled machine that lea understands all too well. This is her second time leading the Democratic National convention. So she had a very specific criteria when came to choosing this years host city. Conventions are one part logistics. You know, because the city has be able to support this 50,000person startup that comes and plops down in the middle of your city. So youve got to have the instructure of the right street grids and the facilities and all of that. But the second part of that, who is the leadership in the city . How committed is the leadership in the city to the convention enterprise . We found both of those in philadelphia. The logistical infrastructure as well as leadership. And one more thing that truly put philadelphia over the top. Parking lots around wells fargo gave us a tremendous amount of flexibility and space to accommodate the media, to accommodate our satellite trucks, to accommodate the bus lots, the car lots, the mediacom pounds, and so we looked at all of us who plan logistics looked out of the window the first visit and said, ooh, parking lots. We stood there for about three minutes salivating over the parking lots. Over the next two months, her team will transform the Wells Fargo Center into a stage fit for a national audience, and shes in charge of it all, from the obvious pomp and circumstances to the most seemingly minute detail like the color of the carpet. Who knew there were so many shades of blue . You have to pick exactly the right blue so it shows up, and what it looks like on our color chart is not exactly what it looks like on television. You would be surprised how much time we spent on the correct shade of blue. While the Wells Fargo Center is taking shape, the dnc is working with the community to get them involved and leave a Lasting Legacy long after the convention is over. Ill take a closer look at that this afternoon on nbc10 starting at 4 00. Tracy davidson, nbc10 news. And happening now, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is giving its forecast of how many storms we can expect along the Atlantic Ocean this coming Hurricane Season.
