Nice, dry conditions for the rest of today. Look at the winds and you see the flag blowing and winds will be gusting at 35 miles an hour this afternoon. Then later on this week we have spring showers moving in and not until friday and we have a nice, dry stretch over the next four days and once that rain gets here and then leaves for the weekend, your easter forecast is now in view in the sevenday forecast and ill show you that in just a second and 43 in redding and mid40s in philadelphia and about the mid to low 40s, new jersey and delaware where we have a very light snow this morning and shouldnt have caused as many problems across the area and we did have slippery spots on the roads and as far as the warmup i was just talking about today and well only be in the upper 40s for this time of the year and tomorrow slowly warming into about the mid to low 50s and then look at wednesday and thursday well be close to 70 degrees. By thursday it will feel very nice because it will come with sunshine and dry conditions and that will be a nice change compared to the cold weekend we had this past weekend and sustained winds anywhere from 10 to 15 miles an hour and wilmington seeing a sustained wind of 22 miles an hour and it will stay nice and sunny. So weve cleared out from this mornings light snow. New england got most of that and the light snow has moved well offshore and we dont expect it to come back, not any time soon, of course and temperatures again tomorrow morning and it will not look luke winter. Well see freezing temperatures again as we start off your tuesday and heavy coat tomorrow morning. Warming trend through thursday reaching down through 70 degrees and it looks like an all day rain on friday and well have more details as we get closer and drying out for your weekend. Today, sunny, windy, chilly and temperatures in the mid to upper on 40s and we stay nice and dry and we go through the week and theres a nice warmup and 67 wednesday and 70 on thursday and theres the rain on friday and theres your easter forecast. 56 saturday and cool by Easter Sunday and being looking pretty good, mid60s and warmer and it looks nice for all of the easter egg hunts. All right. Sheena, thank you. Tonight only on nbc 10, well take an indepth look at the tragic epidemic of heroin and opioid addiction thats plaguing our region and beyond. I find out that hes shooting heroin, its hard for me to say. Because you just dont think that its going to come to your house. You dont think that that is going to happen to your family and to your only son who for 20 years gave you no problems. Nbc 10 reporter vince luftanzo got an insiders perspective on the world of addiction. Vince and morgan know joining us now to talk about why you all chose this report on addiction and what you learned about it. You really were on the front lines of this for several months embedded in the world that so many of us dont have any involvement with. We think we dont have any involvement with, but in actuality it affects us in a lot more ways than we realized. Personally, it was a personal situation. 15 years ago we lost my cousin jess toe heroin abuse and overdose and it was devastating for our family. So when we had the opportunity to take a look at how thing his gotten exponentially worse over the next few years we jumped at that time and what we found is it affects way more people than we even realize. People dont talk about it so much. Morgan, was this personal for y you . When we were reporting on the Homeless Youth special we were in kensington a lot and we had people just walking up to us saying you have to do something on the heroin down here. It is so bad. People get trapped. It was something we couldnt ignore. So what was it like interacting with people on a daily basis who were harp adikheroin addicts an opioid addicts . They were people like us. It affectious in a personal way. These are normal people who all of a sudden whether it was that they were in a car accident and they were dealing with chronic pain and dealing with prescription pain killers and they got hooked and made the transition to heroin and it could have been someone dealing with some sort of mental issue or personal issue and they turned to these prescription painkillers to try to dull that pain and then they got hooked. For some people they look like you and me and they would have to roll up their sleeves and then you would see the signs of their drug addiction. Yeah. One kid who you will meet in this special tonight, michael, we spotted him walking down to the tracks which is this place in kensington where they go to shoot up and we were just thinking he doesnt seem like he belongs here. He looks clean cut. He looks like a regular kid. He looks like my brother. He reminded me of my brother and we got to know him really well, and the fact is that hes a normal kid and like anyone else. He went to Central High School and he graduated and he was going to drexel and he just fell into this, you know, this addition and he is trying so hard to get out. His moms supportive and they love each other to death, but its just tough. Youve spent so much time with these families. What is the problem here . Is it the lack of resources once they get in so deep or does it happen well before that . Their home life and the people they hang out with . Its a super complex issue. Homeless youth is kind of easy. If you give money for resources for housing for young people and that would solve the problem and this is a bit of what the home life was.
