later this week. right now parts of the shore are dealing with some rain out there. >> yeah, nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here now with a look at this heat wave that's on the horizon, right, glenn? >> yeah, the heat wave is probably going to be starting tomorrow, as soon as we get rid of the circulation around hermine. and yes, those clouds and that rain at the shore are directly from hermine. you can see the circulation quite clearly on the radar and satellite. and as we go in, these are bands of rain on the outer edges of hurricanes. and it's a good thing that it weakened, because it got closer and closer, and now we've got rain. especially long beach island, down toward atlantic city, and on our live camera, in beach haven, it is cloudy, and it is damp. it didn't start that way today, but it's that way now. the wind is out of the north at 15 to 20 miles an hour. as the storm moves away, it's going to allow more sunshine, and that will help push the temperatures up. we did reach 88 today. the average high is only 81. 90 tomorrow. and then it really gets hot. thursday, friday, saturday, that's going to be the peak of this next heat wave that's coming. to go through the night tonight, temperatures not dropping a whole lot. philadelphia only down to 70 degrees. but staying dry well inland. the issue is in parts of new jersey, even interior new jersey, maybe some showers this evening, and definitely more rain at the shore before that moves out we'll see how long that heat's going to last in a few minutes. to decision 2016. and the push for pennsylvania. donald trump plans to make his second trip to philadelphia in a week. trump will give a speech at the union league tomorrow morning. the event not open to the public. just a short time ago, trump wrapped up an event in virginia beach where he spoke to veterans. >> you have illegal immigrants that she wants, and he wants treated better than veterans. you have these people are treated better than people that are in this room. you know it. they are treated better than veterans. >> trump also promised to fix bureaucratic problems in the veterans administration. >> democratic presidential candidate hillary clinton headed south today stumping for support in the battleground state of florida. she told the crowd gathered in tampa that trump does not have the temperament to serve as commander in chief. >> i'm here to lay out my case one more time, and to ask for your help. because every single vote counts. >> clinton warned that trump would lead the nation back to war in the middle east. chelsea clinton is starting to campaign for her more in pennsylvania this week. she'll go to carlisle and state college, and on thursday she will campaign in scranton. these are her first campaign events since the dnc. hillary clinton will also get some help from the current first lady, michelle obama will speak with clinton supporters next week in northern virginia. tomorrow night, the two candidates meet face to face for a commander in chief forum that will touch on issues that include veterans and also national security. the "today" show's matt lauer will host the event. katy mcginty and pat toomey held events in philadelphia today. lauren mayk spoke to both candidates and joins us now. lauren, what did they say? >> reporter: jacqueline, they're both trying to make the case that they are the best choice for middle class voters in pennsylvania. but the conversation often veered from toomey versus mcginty to trump versus clinton. in northeast philadelphia, pennsylvania's senate race can be overshadowed. >> have you decided who you're going to vote for in the senate ra race? >> i'm not paying too much attention to the senate race, i'm looking more to the presidential election. >> reporter: across the street from this barbershop, senator pat toomey was on a campaign stop trying to keep talks on his election rather than the presidential one that seems so unavoidable. toomey is a republican who said he hasn't decided whether to support donald trump. but his opponent isn't buying it. >> the trump-toomey ticket has not been a friend to the middle class. >> reporter: you talk about the trump-toomey ticket. but pat toomey has not endorsed donald trump. so is that fair to talk about a trump-toomey ticket? >> well, i would invite senator toomey then to say he's not for donald trump. he hasn't said that. >> reporter: at the family-owned market where toomey stopped today, they said before the senator spoke that they hadn't decided on either race. >> trump is a little wild for me. but i am still republican and i still do vote republican. but i'm not sure i will vote trump. >> reporter: both were either convinced by or leaning toward toomey. but not trump. >> do you expect there will be a lot of split tickets with people not voting for donald trump? but voting for you? >> i think that's entirely possible. >> reporter: now, there are plenty of voters who will stick with the party. the owner of the bar on the corner in that neighborhood told me he's voting for toomey and trump. a lot of democrats will vote for mcginty and clinton. jacqueline? >> lauren, thank you for that. who men accused of shooting an atlantic city police officer faced a judge today. 29-year-old cross and his alleged accomplice chisholm were arraigned today. both face attempted murder charges. police officer josh bidel was shot in the head during the confrontation. he remains in the hospital with his loved ones by his side. >> every day, an improvement. it's been good news. he's a fighter. he's a tough kid. >> bidel is in critical but stage condition. the defendants are held on $750,000 cash bail. a police officer shot a few months ago has now recovered and ready for full police duty. the police department said officer chris dorman has been medically cleared. his first shift is friday night. dorman was shot seven times in june. another shakeup in the pennsylvania ag's office this afternoon. bruce castor's role is coming to an end. bruce beemer said friday is his last day as solicitor general. kane resigned following her conviction on perjury charges. another month of delays for passengers. the evening rush hour still has a lot of delays. some trains are running at least 20 minutes behind schedule. about the same delays as the morning rush. septa warned of delays today because more people went back to work and schools are now in session. septa expects delays for another month before all of its trains are back in service. camden county medical marijuana dispensary will sell something no one else is, lozenges and lotion also. the new products are for registered patients, available soon, and the lozenges should be available in about a month. police say an off-duty cop shot his own teenage son after an argument last night in northeast philly. nbc 10 outside the officer's home after that shooting last night. family members tell us his 19-year-old son is in critical but stable condition. police want to know if it was an accident or intentional. we look for answers from two others who were in the house at the time including a younger son. now new at 6:00, two men are charged with the death of a man found in the trunk of a car. last night police charged james hinbach and charles yolk um. they found a trail of blood in hinbach's apartment. the victim's name has not been released yet. college students around the country must come up with plan b. itt shut down more than 100 campuses, including some in our region. the u.s. department of education banned the for-profit chain from enrolling new students who use federal financial aid. if you went to itt tech, you may be able to get your federal student loan debt wiped away by filling out a form on the department of education's website. up next at 6:00, all the bells and whistles. philly's schools are about to give for the first time in years. nbc 10's tim furlong explains why the superintendent has such high hopes for this year. >> reporter: this little dude starts pre-k at nebinger elementary tomorrow, the fourth generation of his family to go to school here. his mom is happy because it focuses on writing, arithmetic, and reading. >> reading is major for me. >> reporter: their mom will love this. as part of the write books campaign, 52 philly schools will share 130,000 new age-appropriate books. unlike last year when the long pennsylvania standoff, there are more books available to teachers this year. >> there are so many other burdens lifted. right now i can focus on teaching reading to students. >> even more optimistic about this year as a superintendent. >> reporter: philly superintendent said it's nice right now, no talk of cuts, closures and layoffs, instead it's about new investments and resources. this year each school will once again have counselors and nurses. the district still has some issues. they still don't have a contract with teachers. the graduation is climbing, but it's still pretty low. the superintendent said at least the funding is there to start on a nice note. >> nice not having to send letters home saying we may not be able to pay you next month. >> reporter: as the welcome back boards go up and the in you books come out, teachers can spend less time first alert weather. the weather's pretty awesome across much of the area today. in philadelphia, 86 degrees now, with mostly sunny skies. but the clouds have moved in to p.a. suburbs. much of new jersey. the jersey shore. also in delaware. lehigh valley is mostly sunny. and of course, the temperature, down a little bit. we've got a northwest wind. the land breeze in new jersey, the clouds keeping the temperature down. especially as you get closer to the ocean. coil field 74. oswego lake at 75. pemberton 79. lumberton 79. closer to philadelphia, it's a little bit warmer, turnersville at 84 degrees. and farther to the north, robbinsville 77. princeton 78 degrees. all of those places are going to be hotter tomorrow, as soon as this thing starts moving out. it continues to spin around there. that's still hermine. even though the hurricane center stopped issuing advisories on it. it's still producing rainfall. and most of that rain is right at the shore right now. not so much down at cape may, and the delaware beaches. but we are seeing some of that come into atlantic city, as you can see. sea isle city, long beach island getting quite a bit of rain over the last few hours. and that is the first rain from hermine in many of those areas. we have a few places getting wind gusts now. not as many. the places that are blank are not reporting strong wind gusts. mount holly at 28, wilmington at 26. it's a good thing hermine has weakened quite a bit, because it's closer to the coast than it's been at any time. we're still following that thing. got another heat wave, though. not today. got up to 88 today. the average high is 81. 90 tomorrow. 95 thursday. that's when the real heat starts. those three days, thursday, friday, saturday look like they're going to be mighty hot around here. and we could even be breaking some records. philadelphia's record, 96 degrees on thursday. predicting 95. i think saturday's record is going to be very close. places like mount holly, millville, may break records, too. last year this time it was really hot. but it didn't last like it is lasting now. the other thing that happens is, when it gets hot, you're drying out the ground. so you need more rain. doesn't look like we're going to get much, if any, over the next week. you can see the rain chances very low. dover, philadelphia, reading, atlantic city. so you're going to have to do your own watering of the lawns for a while. in philadelphia, tomorrow we've got 90 degrees. fairmount section. reading 89 degrees. it's not going to be all that humid tomorrow. voorhees 87. generally dry at the jersey shore as hermine finally starts moving away. 89 degrees in wilmington. and the temperatures into the 90s in the suburbs, in the lehigh valley. once we get to thursday and friday, even the jersey shore is going to be fairly warm with a land breeze for the most part. so there's the heat. thursday, friday, saturday, sunday for eagles, it's actually looking much more comfortable. and next week should be fairly comfortable. but it still looks like a dry pattern. hot for the eagles opener. i'm john clark. howie rosen makes another trade today, another chip kelly they brought in patrick chung and bradley fletcher. wentz will start the season opener. he only played a quarter and a half in the preseason. didn't take any snaps with the first team offense during the summer. but his teammates say he is really intelligent, very smart and picks up things very quickly. he ran a pro style offense at north dakota state and called things from the line of scrimmage which is rare in college. the birds and his teammates believe carson can handle this. >> he's a gym rat, per se. he'll be in the film room as much as any other guy on the team. >> we're fortunate he's a very cerebral guy, on top of his game. today, he was right on top of the protections. you know, and from now until the game time, we'll iron out certain things. but i'm more than comfortable with
