And so from the temperature of 87 yesterday, our high 93 today, feeling like at least 96. 97 degrees in philadelphia. And over 100 in parts of delaware and south jersey. Temperatures near 90 over the weekend. But not feeling like its 100 degrees. Feeling like 101 in dover right now. 96 in atlantic city. So it is hot, even at the jersey shore. But not going to be like that over the weekend. Its over 90 at stone harbor, avalon, ocean city, ventnor. Holgate is down to 83. Thats about the only place at the shore that has a reasonable temperature. Its going to be warm overnight tonight. But not quite as warm as it was last night. P. A. Suburbs down to 67. And Lehigh Valley 67 degrees. In the 70s during this morning. Well talk more about the changes as we head toward Labor Day Weekend a little bit later. The heat isnt the only danger that has people at the shore so concerned this weekend. The rip current risk is high with fewer lifeguards watching over the beaches. Nbc 10 Jersey Shore Bureau reporter Ted Greenberg reports from ocean city, cape may county. Reporter lifeguards i talked with are expecting the coming days to be a bit stressful as they work to keep people safe with smaller ranks. In the water, relief from the heat. The spot to be. Reporter and a growing hazard. The current is really rough. Waves are coming in set after set after set. Reporter theyre dealing with the combination of an increasing threat of rif currents, people trying to cool off at the beach, and fewer lifeguards. Each zone has had to close a stand or two because of the availability of our guard staff. Reporter a staff that is shrinking as some guards go back to college. At the height of the summer, ocean city has 43 guarded beaches. That number is now down to 33. As we get tighter, obviously were going to increase restrictions. We might not let you go out as far as we did all summer. Reporter in surf city there are also fewer eyes on the water. Now youre guarding a beach that used to be guarded by four people, which is now guarded by two people. So the rules that normally apply, swim where theres a lifeguard, they apply even more now, because the lifeguards are pushed to the limits a bit. Reporter lifeguards say its crucial to always respect the oceans power, and if you ever feel like maybe you shouldnt go in the water, dont. In ocean city, im Ted Greenberg, nbc 10 news. County police say a 46yearold woman shot and killed a young man in her neighborhood as he drove by her house one morning in july. Police still are not saying why she would do that. A neighbor in the Rutledge Community showed us photos of police arresting Cheryl Jennings on wednesday. They say at 4 00 in the morning, on july 9th, she fired into the car of 19yearold Delaware State University student Malcolm Evans. The aspiring doctor was on his way to work. Jennings family would not answer our questions today, but Malcolm Evans family did speak with nbc 10. Why . Why someone would commit such an unspeakable crime against such an amazing young man. Police are still investigating, so theyre not releasing a possible motive in the case. They say jennings does have a prior criminal record. They also tell us that once the county doubled the reward money, a number of tips flooded in that led them to jennings. New at 6 00 from Montgomery County, police want you to take a good look at these surveillance pictures of a bank robber holding up a pnc today. The man was wearing a phillies hat and black bandanna when he walked into the branch and handed a note to the teller. He got away with some cash and was last seen on montgomery avenue. Were following a developing story out of Gloucester County where a man is charged in the deaths of his own parents. The victims, edward and rose marie coles, were found dead in their home today. Their son, 29yearold ryan coles, was in the house when police arrived, after getting a call from a concerned relative. The couple also owned a music store. Brandon hudson is working the story. Today Vice President joe biden was in delaware to announce that Transportation Department is providing that loan. The money will be used to buy new trains, upgrade tracks, and improve platforms. New at 6 00, a septa passenger is thanking two officers for saving his life during the rush hour commute. The man met with his heroes less than 24 hours after he had a brush with death. The septa officers found the unresponsive man on a market frankfurt line train at 30th street station yesterday. The officers performed cpr and helped the man regain his pulse. He was treated and released from a hospital. Its not clear what caused him to have a medical emergency. Now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. Well, hotter and more humid today as expected. And a lot more sunshine. You can see we still have sunshine across the entire area, with temperatures near the 90degree mark. And even at the shore it was in the 90s. In the city of philadelphia, some places got to the middle 90s. Now, not quite at the airport, the airports 92 now. But its 95 at center city. 92 at rittenhouse. 94 society hill. Its below 90 in couple of spots, Chestnut Hill and andora. Weve got all the neighborhoods covered for you. 90 over the next couple of days. Even if we dont get to 90 on sunday, we could very well get another heat wave here at the start of next week. But its not going to last. As we head toward Labor Day Weekend, here we go, friday, saturday, its going to start off cool, and its going to start off with very low humidity. But whats going to happen, by the end of the month here, were ending up with the warmest august ever recorded in philadelphia. Seems to be a pretty sure bet now. Now, tomorrow, unlike today, its not going to feel warmer than the temperature. So in somerton, its 90, feeling like 90. Upper dublin 89, feeling like 88. Allentown, 88, feeling like 89. Its all pretty close, because the humidity is down from what we saw today. Even in places like longport where will feel higher than the temperature. The temperature is lower than today. And thats not as big a gap as what we saw today. Its going to feel more comfortable at the beaches tomorrow. A lot more comfortable. And then on sunday, well get another sea breeze. The jersey shore, 84 and 81. Thats pretty nice. Really nice. And near 90 with somewhat lower humidity in and around philadelphia, delaware a little bit cooler than that. But were still talking pretty nice. In the poconos, its just spectacular, temperatures in the low 80s. Low temperatures near 60 degrees. That is plenty, plenty comfortable. And in the tropics, we continue to monitor this system north of cuba, bahamas. Still has not become organized, as it gets closer to miami. So the longer it takes for any of that to happen, the better off south florida is. But theres still the possibility that at least by early next week, when the remnants gets into the gulf of mexico, that it has a chance of developing. And if that happens, it does have a chance of becoming a tropical storm. Of course, well keep you followed on that.
