schwartz, forecast for tonight, saturday and everyone wants to know about easter sunday, glenn. >> easter sunday, one of the warmest easter sundays we have ever had around here. a lot of sunshine now. beautiful blue skies out here with ben franklin bridge in the distance. not much in the way of cloud cover around our area. a little bit more in ohio, and a lot more when you get back to illinois. but that's a long way away. 67 degrees in philadelphia now. it's 68 in allentown, even 62 in pocono. only place in the 50s right at the beaches, because of the wind coming in off of that cooler ocean. and as we go into the weekend, tomorrow's -- well, the temperature's going to be very close to today's temperature, but a lot more cloudiness. so it may look a little bit threatening. and then on sunday, more sunshine. more of a -- west to southwest wind. kind of breezy, but extremely warm for this time of year. record high, 90 in philadelphia. so 8a 85 is not that far away. the only place we won't get into the 80s, jersey shore with that southerly wind. see if we get more 80s coming up next week. >> let's hope oh, glenn. tonight christians around the world celebrating good friday. one of the friday is considered a universal day of fasting. and with the easter traditions under way, lines were out the door at all the usual spots around our area. take a look. before the doors opened at cracko's market in port richmond. kielbasa a big seller. the owner said they sold 10,000 pounds in the weeks leading up to easter. they also do about a full month's worth of business in one day going into the holiday. families we spoke to say they get outer to avoid the crowds, but it's still all about the people to share in the easter tradition. >> we have the blessing of the table. it's a polish tradition. i'm keeping up my parents' tradition. besides the ham, of course, the kielbasa. the pierogis we make from scratch. the paska. >> easter dinner wasn't the only thing people shopped for today. also a few folks picking up flowers for the table. this easter weekend, one chester county church is sell grating a grand reopening. video of a collapsing. heavy snow to blame. no one inside when the roof caved in. the past 16 months the church has been holding services inside a school gym. a lot of people have off today, but it's the first day on the job for new wilmington police chief robert tracy. tracy spent years with the nypd and most recently worked as chief crime control strategist in chicago. like chicago, wilmington has been plagued by gun-related trialens. women hmongton has seen more than 55 shootings this year. a message for philadelphia's d.a. resign. tom wolf's latest plea to seth williams comes after yesterday's ruling by the state supreme court to is a spent williams' law license. the district attorney is facing federal bribery and extortion charges. in a statement released today's governor said, "it is beyond time for him to step down immediately from his post." williams' trial is set to begin next month. after the showdown with north korea as the nation is reportedly poised to launch a nuclear test, president trump has toughened his talk against the country. it comes one day after the u.s. bombed isis in afghanistan. >> reporter: today a first look at the impact from the so-called mother of all bombs dropped by u.s. forces killing 36 isis fighters in afghanistan. >> this was the right weapon against this target. >> reporter: this, just days after u.s. missile strikes on syria. now growing tensions in the u.s. now staring down north people in seoul that would be a target. >> reporter: the country is now marking the birthday of north korean founder kim il-sung. a time to flex its military muscle. but the u.s. reportedly considering preem-emptive or retaliatory action. north korea issues this stark warning -- if provoked by the u.s. the nation is prepared to "go war." this nuclear expect says we're only angering an "poeopponent t won't back down, the leader of north korea and president trump are concerned about their ego, prestige. the northern korean leader doesn't want to be seen as backing down. neither does recovery starts now. pilots working for united airlines infuriated about a passenger ripped out of his seat in chicago sunday night. according to the business insider, pilots release add statement saying the safety and well-being of passengers is their highest priority. in light of that incident, other airlines are changing their policies. delta today is giving supervisors the green light to offer up to nearly $10,000 to passengers on overbooked flights. up $1,300 before sunday's incident. passengers on that united flight were offered $800 to get off but no one took the offer. all right. turning now to our first alert weather, a live look at the beach in cape may. beautiful right now down there. people are hitting the shore with really warm temperatures on tap for this weekend. right now sitting at about the 60s. i'm sure it's a lot cooler, actually, down the shore. bringing you live team weather coverage, though, of the easter weekend. >> we'll get to glenn "hurricane" schwartz in a moment. first to erika martin. looks fantastic out there. we want to be where you are. >> reporter: i would recommend that. you know, erin and keith, it's gorgeous. everyone having a great time. temperatures in the 60s here in philadelphia. cooler along the shore. still a great day none the less. temperatures today above average and the case for this upcoming weekend. i recommend everybody getting outside at least for the rest of this afternoon into the evening hours because overall, a nice weather outlook for the next couple of days. i'd like to advise sky gazing. look up in the sky tonight with mostly clear skies you'll be able to see jupiter and saturn. more information coming up on eastern weekend. toss it back to glenn in the studio. glenn? >> hi, erika. you're getting a chance to go outside over the weekend, too, and get nice and warm, but not as much sun as we go into tomorrow compared to what erika was seeing now. we got sunshine off the ben franklin bridge, and, yeah, kind of a mild day. not exceptionally warm for this time of the year, but wait until sunday. as we look into the suburbs, chester, montgomery counties, bucks, lincoln university, 68 degrees. sadsburiville, 66. and exen, 68. and new hope, 68 degrees. pretty close to the 70-degree mark but most folks, not quite there. everybody's going to be well above 70 going into sunday. everybody's going to see some of those clouds back to the west coming in during the day tomorrow. so it's not going to be a repeat of today, at least the way it's going to look, but temperatures will be fairly similar. maybe a couple degrees lower in some spots, because of the increased cloud cover. ed wind, 10 to 15 miles an hour out of the south. langhorn, 63. reading 66. you can see, got the cloudy symbol there. don't have the drops. the chance of rain is not zero but it's not high enough to be scaring you. we're putting those drops in the symbols here. long port and you can see here in the 50s. that's the high temperature in the afternoon, as the south winds get a little stronger, the temperature sometimes goes down even more than that. again, be prepared with a jacket or sweatshirt or something if you're headed to the shore this weekend. even on sunday. look at the clouds. going through the day tomorrow, practically the entire area covered with clouds. doesn't happen that often where you get all of that, and no rain. that's likely to be the case. then we clear out again tomorrow night. sunday we get lots of sunshine as you can see. you don't see much cloud cover until sunday night. this is the latest computer model. just in. and it does show a -- decent area of showers sunday night, but it races through and it is gone. it's just a matter of a couple of hours. by monday morning back with the sunshine again. so we have, i would say, at least 90% of the weekend dry and some areas, 100%. but a lot of cloud cover tomorrow. 67 for the high. philadelphia, and jersey shores, sunday watche warmer. the record for sunday is 90 degrees. set a few years ago in 2012. cooler at the shore with that 71 degrees. as we go with specifics through sunday, the sunrise services, not going to be very chilly, that's for sure. look at that. temperatures near 60 degrees and we jump up to near 80, of course, during the afternoon. >> glenn, thank you. today north korea says it will go to war with the united states if provoked. this all after the u.s. dropped what's called the mother of all bombs on isis in afghanistan. >> joined live by colonel rick kiernan to talk about the developing situations. always a pleasure. north korea here, always talking tough, but where do you think the situation stands and where do up think it's currently headed? >> well, i think at this particular time with our commander in chief, who's been in there about 90 days, i think some of the other world leaders are going to try and test, to see exactly what our response might be. i think right now you're playing to an audience, because they have a large birthday celebration coming up this weekend in north korea. and i think they play to their population and their populace, but i think they also have to be wary of their relationship with china, who provides about 80% of all of their goods. >> now, the u.s., we mentioned, used the mother of all bombs on isis in afghanistan just this week. do you think this sends a message to north korea, even vladimir putin in russia and do you think that was one of the president's goals here? >> i think absolutely, because we look at things at the stra strategic, operational and technical level. when you have a response as that as well as in syria you're sending a message to allies and potential enemies and adversaries we will have a proportionate response, and even if there needs to be something pre-emptive, we're not hesitant to do that as well. >> colonel, tensions seem to be high here. many concerned america could be entering another war, perhaps. do you think that could happen? >> when we talk about war, keith, a lot of times people think about boots on the ground. numbers of troops. smallest army since 1940, et cetera, but i think they also dismiss the wonderful navy, the wonderful air force, the wonderful marines we've got out there, and tomahawk missiles coming from our navy ships. the "carl vinson" aircraft carrier going to the area, and i think our air force, our tomahawks, as well as what we demonstrated with the air force the other day, i think gives us a united response across all fronts and not it's almost always this busy. residents say after 6:30 fair game and that has to change. it didn't take neighbors long to ganger to get a glimpse of the wreckage themselves. police say speed was a factor just before 8:00 this morning when an suv slammed into a parked tractor trailer. the impact immediately killed the two female passengers in the suv. the man driving was taken to the hospital. >> so the truck at this point was legally parked. my truck enforcement guys are going through the truck making sure everything was legit on it. >> reporter: the driver of the tractor trailer wasn't in the truck at the time of the accident. he returned after it happened and stayed at the scene to talk to police. trucks are allowed to park in the outer lane of roosevelt boulevard just after this street during certain times of the day. >> they shouldn't allow trailers or cars to park on this side of the street. it's horrible. >> reporter: the concern is that the boulevard is already dangerous and parked trucks can add to that. >> i know every street and drive me crazy. >> reporter: the crash slowed down traffic for hours as investigators process the scene. it's still too early to say how the crash happened or if it could have been prevented. >> the victims identified as 40-year-old marshea and -- the driver taken to the hospital for treatment. the describer of the suv. the boulevard is considered one of the most dangerous roads in the country, and certainly one of the deadliest in philadelphia. nbc investigative reporter joins us with a breakdown of this problem, mitch? >> reporter: erin, more than 60 people died in traffic crashes along the boulevard since 2016. between 2011 and 2016. an average of one person per month. penndot reports more than 4,000 people were hurt on the boulevard during that span. meanwhile, city and state officials are working on a plan to reduce those numbers. the mayor has a vision zero plan looking to get rid of all traffic-related deaths by improving infrastructure and using new safety technology. the program would install speed cameras along the boulevard and within a quarter mile of schools. the vision zero policies would not be exclusive to philadelphia. they have already been adopted by other major cities like new york, washington, d.c. and san francisco. for the investigate i'm mitch blocker, nbc 10 news. >> thanks for that. drexel university launching a new scholarship fund in honor of a man hit and killed by a driver while he was riding his bike. the moore foundation hosts a memorial service and scholarship luncheon next month. the foundation raises money for young african-american students to attend the school's college of engineering. morris graduated from that school before hit and killed riding his bike. the drive hear not been caught. look at this. just days before easter, a north jersey church collapsed leaving piles of debris scattered over church pews. st. anthony in passaic. church members noticed the ceiling actually sag last week. thankfully, no one wa inside at the time. church leaders say they will rebuild. >> we cry. it was tears. like i said, i'm not going to give up, and we will continue forward. >> masses held across the street inside a gymnasium to accommodate the holiday crowds this weekend. ♪ in university city, warshipers gathered at the philadelphia episcopal cathedral for a good friday service this afternoon pap universal day for fast, about sta -- abstinence and prayer and confession marking the day with stations of the cross. hosting a unique version of the tradition. this afternoon artists presented different creations representing the stations referring to the events of the day when christians believe jesus was crucified. easter bread and hot-cross buns. hmm. the easter traditions are whipped up right now across our area. bakery baking treats all day long. the rush started days ago and they've been working 24 hours a day to make sure everyone gets what they need for the holiday weekend. >> i'm starving now. >> i know. looked at that video. a mistake. a lot of activities planned outside all weekend long. the weather ideal for anything planned. >> bring in meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> the weekend looking good? >> except if you want to go skiing. >> not for you. >> not good for everybody. no. not great for snow skiing, because it will be too warm. a lot of sunshine out there. a little bit of a milky sky across philadelphia's skyline, but a lot of the area is just perfectly clear. nice and blue. the clouds increase back to the west, and ohio and indiana and illinois. then you finally see some showers and storms. all the way back to illinois. right now, temperatures, 67 in philadelphia. 68 in northeast phillie, allentown, reading, 62 in mount pocono, but temperatures right at the beaches, only in the 50s with the wind coming in off that ocean. the ocean temperature is 51 degrees. so we've got a nice evening across the entire area. and then as we go into the weekend, you're going to see a lot of cloud cover on saturday, but any chance of rain is very small. i'd say probably 10% or so. saturday night -- maybe up to 20% chance. sunday, during the day, lots of sunshine. a chance of rain probably less than 10%. but sunday night, that's when we have the best chance. maybe up to 30%, 40% especially lee high valley. why we put the drops up there, but don't expect it during the daytime hours. so lots of sunshine. we do get the sea breeze here at the jersey shore on sunday as well. we'll see when we do have rain coming in, with the rest of the forecast coming up. now here's a look at some of the stories making headlines -- county by county across our region in burlington county, the fbi involved in the investigation of a double murder a mother and her 6-year-old son. they were found stabbed in their home three weeks ago. the woman's husband found their bodies when he came home from work. in lee high county, things are back to normal at a motel. the suites were evacuated after a man was found dead inside a room there. another man found sick in the hallway. police say the man who died was from california. they didn't say how he died, but they are performing a toxicology test. in burks county, a running district judge charged with drunk driving. judge kiley scott had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit when she was stopped last month. the daughter of mayor wally scott. in bucks county, watch this guy's attempt at vandalism backfires. picks up the bench, tosses it. bounces back and hits him. the police there say several businesses were vandalized along sycamore street last night. now they're looking for this guy in the video. alities karcar karma there. and a $1,000 reward leading to information of the person who shot and killed a cat in bensalem. shot and killed near the creekside apartments on knights road. and at the shore, homeowners in march gate throwing up the white flag. dropping their lawsuit against the state department of environmental protection. they were trying to block construction of dunes to protect against storm surges. the borough sustained serious damage during superstorm sandy in 2012. and in burks county, 15 people. hospitalized afternoon getting sick from the smell of natural gas inside a wells fargo bank. the building evacuated. when utility workers and fire crews got there, no evidence of a leak. checked all heating and cooling equipment but found nothing. as of now, not clear what happened. and security preparations underway for the boston marathon. a press conference this morning about the new security measures they will implement. next week's race is the fourth boston marathon since the 2013 bombings. the mayor says there's no threat to this year's event, but the city will continue to take certain precautions. now, this is video of last year's marathon. the added security comes after two bombs went off near the finish line at the 2013 race. three people were killed and more than 260 injured. 23-year-old joseph stsarnaev wa sentenced to death back in 2015. and break in philadelphia in about three weeks. >> a live look down broad street from the kimble center campus camera. soon thousands of runners including us will make our way through the city for the blue cross broad street run. you ready? no. definitely not. peyton is smarter. quote/unquote. new jersey state troopers won't be reimbursed for tolls paid during their drive to and from work. the police union brought the case after authorities stopped allows troopers to skip tolling along the new jersey turn boopin 2010. ed ban on stun guns could be a thing of the past. the lawsuit argued in court now. the case was filed by a second amendment support group, and a state attorney general agreed the ban is unconstitutional. new jersey one of only five states that bans stun guns if you are not a police officer. a little extra time to file your taxes this year since the traditional deadline april 15th falls on a saturday. you have until tuesday, the 18th, this year. in washington, d.c. today, a tax march chicken was arrested on the national mall ahead of a protest planned for tomorrow. people calling on president trump to release his tax returns. organizers hope to call attention to the fact mr. trump is the first president since richard nixon to refuse to release his returns and say prepare for a fight on tax policy. national parks week. admission is free to all the countries more than 400 national parks over the weekend. this weekend and next weekend. the promotion comes as several groups call for congress to free up more than $12 billion to make repairs at parks across the country. the repairs have been put off for years. for example, nearly $50 million of renovations are needed at independence national parks in philadelphia alone. it is a sign of the season. harbor park opening on may 12th. the season is kicking off with a weekend-long festival. the park opens at 11:00 that friday morning with live entertainment starting at 7:00. so great down there. peaceful. a great site in philadelphia. easter flowers in bloom. nbc 10 on broad street philly. temperatures just where you need them to be. >> great weather for this holiday weekend. right, glenn?
