now, to breaking news out of germany. police say there are several dead and wounded in a shooting at a mall in munich. and police are still hunting down the suspects. nbc 10's drew smith is following the very latest developments in the breaking news center. >> drew, what do you know about this so far? >> police say they are looking for three shooters with long guns. authorities are using the term suspected terrorism in connection with this shooting. according to a police spokesperson, the shooting started at a mcdonald's restaurant attached to the shopping center before shooters made their way into the mall. the spokesperson said it waste clear whether the suspects were still in or near the mall, or if they had gone somewhere else. german media are reporting six people are dead. all trains, trans, buses and subways in the city of munich have been shut down. police have urged residents to stay inside as they hunt for attackers. this is the second attack in germany in less than a week. we will continue to follow this story and bring you the latest here on nbc 10. drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> drew, thank you so much. we're also following breaking news in our decision 2016 coverage. hillary clinton expected to announce her vice presidential pick any minute now. nbc news has learned from two democratic sources she will announce her choice first by text, and then at a rally in tampa, florida. that rally is expected to start at 4:30. virginia senator tim kaine is the reported front-runner. we'll bring you clinton's pick as soon as she announces it. clinton's announcement comes until three days left until the democratic national convention takes off in philadelphia. this morning, the dnc committee revealed the convention podium, inside the wells fargo center. hillary clinton will officially accept the democratic nomination for president on this stage on thursday. nbc 10's rosemary connors is live inside the wells fargo center this afternoon where things are starting to take shape. >> rosemary, today is the first day they've let media into the wells fargo center. you may be one of the first in there. a lot of blue inside you as opposed to the red we saw earlier this week. >> reporter: that's right. of course, we covered the rnc earlier this week. now it's the democrats' turn. i'm right here on the floor of the convention center, where the dnc is going to be held. some of the best seats are right here on the floor. they're going to go to the delegates from pennsylvania and new york. of course, that's the state hillary represented in the senate. they'll have the front-row view of the stage to be watching all of the festivities over the coming week. the big task for the crews today is the balloons they have to net them, and hoist them over 100 feet in the air, all the way up to the rafters for the balloon drop on thursday night. this, by the way, is the first time there will be a balloon drop at the dnc since 2004. that's when john kerry accepted the nomination in boston. here at the wells fargo center, tours have been coming through, checking out the stage and final preparations before the security gets really tight. a little earlier we caught up with the philadelphia ambassador for the wyoming delegation who knows his way around town and will help the delegates learn about philly. >> give them some hometown experience. >> cheesesteaks, right? >> i'm the cheesesteak ambassador, i guess you could say that. >> reporter: of course, he'll also be showing the hot spots and highlights, everything philly has to offer. rashad, who runs a community nonprofit and works with the city brought his 7-year-old daughter here today. he hopes when she gets a little bit older she'll remember this historic event right here in philadelphia. coming up a little bit later at 5:00, we'll talk more about security. we'll have the details on when the arena here and when the wells fargo center will really go into lockdown. reporting live from the floor of the convention, i'm rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. outside philadelphia, getting a makeover. state flags fly from portions of south broad street headed to the wells fargo center. a colorful art project now adorns the median on broad. presidential quotes cover fencing, surrounding construction projects and colorful donkeys can be spotted all around town. it's been so exciting in philadelphia. you can just feel the energy and the excitement. and you see things becoming more beautiful even though i think this is a really beautiful city. >> 15,000 rooms have been booked for the dnc in philadelphia. and surrounding cities. it's expected to generate $300 million for the region. >> a lot of changes going on. nbc 10's mitch blocker getting a bird's-eye view, the changes taking shape ahead of the convention. >> it often looks very different from up above. how does it look up there, mitch? >> hey, guys. what a change from just two days ago when we were up here looking at the preparation for the dnc from the sky. you can see this is the security tent where all people going into the secure perimeter within the dnc, they will have to go through security here. these tents just put up in the last 24 hours. if we can pan out a little bit, we can see the entire security perimeter. the secret service put 19,000 feet of fencing around the wells fargo center. the secret service, they are responsible for securing the event. the philadelphia police department will work the outside of that perimeter. so far, there are sewers that have been sealed, new surveillance cameras added to the wells fargo center, as they prepare to secure the dnc. that's the latest from sky force 10. >> major traffic changes to the region, of course. >> jessica boynton takes us through what we need to know. >> i'm jessica boyington. philadelphia is getting ready for the democratic national convention. it will be held at the wells fargo center. and in south philadelphia, there's going to be a lot of travel restrictions put in place because of it. now, we are starting with closures and restrictions. they will start friday evening. so tonight, the 22nd, around 8:00 p.m., and they will last until about midday on friday the 29th. commercial vehicles will be involved as well. over five tons or more will be restricted from a nine-mile portion of 95 between exit 13 and exit 22. there won't be any real highway closures, but there will be some ramps closed as well. 95 north and southbound to broad street closed on and off during these dates. it's always subject to change. saturday the 23rd at 12:00 p.m., they will be clearing by friday night on the 29th. mass transit, airport line for septa will be adding cars on saturday the 23rd. sunday the 24th. and friday the 29th. the broad street line will express service and they will have that extended from center city to the stadium area as well as patco running with extra cars and extra service. nbc 10 is planning extensive coverage of the democratic national convention starting this weekend. we will report live inside the wells fargo center each morning, afternoon and evening, just as acceptance speech at the dnc next week, calling her too boring. today, trump bid fair well to cleveland on the morning after he accepted the presidential nomination at the rnc. he said cruz may have ruined his own political career. trump also said he does not want cruz's endorsement in the future. overall, trump said the rnc was one of the most successful conventions of all-time. >> this was probably one of the most peaceful, one of the most beautiful, one of the most love-filled conventions in the history of conventions. >> about two dozen people were arrested over the four days of the rnc. there was a massive police presence as officials prepared for mass disruptions and violence. now to a developing story. health officials in new york city are reporting the city's first baby born with the zika. the health department announced today the mother was infected far away from the city, in an area known for the zika infections. the baby was born with the zika-related microselfy, and has a smaller than normal head. the cdc said 12 babies have been born in the u.s. with zika related birth defects. new video of the man police think may be targeting prostitutes in the kensington section. he's wearing a baseball cap and wearing a backpack. detectives say he was riding a black and blue mountain bike when he road up on a 24-year-old woman, he allegedly choked her until she was unconscious. she woke up naked and hurt. but survived. police think the same man may have beaten a woman to death saturday night. the suspected serial predator was riding a mountain bike saturday, too. described as a man in his 30s or 40s with a mustache and beard who is on the run. new at 4:00, the woman charged with kidnapping an infant at the king of prussia mall is planning to use an insanity defense. the westchester daily local news report said moore's attorneys have outlined that plan in court filings. police say amore started chatting with the baby's mother back in march. then surveillance video appears to show her walking out with the infant while the mother was distracted. she said she gave birth to a baby that died hours later, but her attorney said she has mental problems after a false pregnancy. new jersey lawmakers agreeing to raise the gas tax. the senate president at the assembly proposed the deal today. it would phase out the estate tax and give veterans a tax deduction. governor chris christie proposed a new plan yesterday to also raise the gas tax. it would end the transportation funding stalemate. all non-essential projects are stopped until a deal is reached. a ban on loud music starts today at one beach at the jersey shore. for the next 60 days, boomboxes are prohibited. it's about keeping the peace. lifeguards report lots of fights over the volume of each other's music. for now, they'll have to use ear buds or listen to the waves. lifeguards will be on the lookout and will make you bring any loud speakers back to your car. one montgomery county town is looking for the owner of a big package of pot delivered to the wrong person's door. check this out. police say someone called police when a package with no name was delivered to their door. police checked inside and found this block of marijuana. now the police department is hoping to return the package to the rightful owner, and maybe chat with them a little bit about it. another round of powerball pond money yum is brewing this afternoon. the jackpot stands at $390 million. the most recent winner was pearl may smith of trenton and her children. they split a jackpot worth more than $429 million in may. the largest prize ever won by a single lottery ticket in new jersey. let's get back to the weather situation. the scorching temperatures arrived for the weekend. a live picture from delaware, where the blue rocks will play baseball in the blistering heat. you see the top of the foul pole in the right field side. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal spent the day out in that heat. he joins us live from camden. >> randy, these are not conditions where you want to be outside too long, unless you're really prepared for it. >> reporter: yeah, you're going to need a few things. you'll need a lot of water and you'll want some shade. we've got that in the tree above me. we're at the music festival. they've got quite a bit of beer and ice cream. as we're expecting temperatures this weekend here to approach 100 degrees. a sound check under the scorching hot sun. fans warming up while trying their best to cool down. playing a mix of soul and cajun country are touring here from the gulf coast. >> feels like home. nice and hot and humid. we like it. >> reporter: across the river and down the turnpike, families in pottstown hit the splash park. >> i bet you it would be really, really hot. >> reporter: jam packed when it opened here this morning. and it's only getting hotter into the weekend. >> we'll find a pool. find a pool or stay in air conditioning. >> reporter: down the shore, big crowds trying to escape the heat wave. but when it gets this hot, a sea breeze is not helping. >> take a long walk by the water and go in the ocean a lot, i guess. pretty much all you can do. >> reporter: not everybody can keep cool in weather like this. with the sun shining, the car wash is bustling with workers breaking into a sweat. just minutes after standing outside. >> no matter the temperature, we're out here every day doing our work. >> reporter: the big shout-out to anybody working outside today. that includes all of the vendors and volunteers, plus all the police and medical personnel keeping people safe here. and sheena, they all tell me they're expecting and ready for even hotter temperatures tomorrow. >> yes, randy, that's right. even hotter temperatures tomorrow. more humidity tomorrow. it's going to feel hotter tomorrow. it feels way hotter today. so if you walked outside today and you felt all that humidity, that is in part giving us the dangerous heat from today until monday. even into tuesday of next week. this is a prolonged heat wave. here's a live look at rehoboth. nice sky conditions, but it is hot and humid. if you look at the seven-day at the bottom of the screen, we've outlined the next four consecutive days in red. that's because the first alert is going to last for all of those days. it's because of the dangerous heat. fo par, new jersey, and delaware. temperatures will be dangerously hot from now until about tuesday. and with the humidity combined with the 90-degree temperatures, it's going to feel anywhere from 100 to 105 degrees. we're in the 90s right now. we'll take a look at the new jersey neighborhoods. it is really heating up today. washington township 90 degrees. medford 94 degrees. lumberton, 93. hamilton township, 92 degrees. when you factor in the humidity, feels close to 100. this is the future feels-like temperature. so as we go into your saturday, look at these numbers before lunchtime tomorrow. we're talking about 11:00 a.m., 11:30, already feeling like the mid to upper 90s. dover could be feeling around 100 degrees by 11:30 tomorrow morning. we could be feeling around the mid-90s in philadelphia. look at this, quickly we start to feel around 105. and this particular model showing wilmington at 108 degrees for that feels-like temperature, by 4:30 tomorrow afternoon. closer to the shore you'll be feeling around the mid-90s. a very hot day again tomorrow. it's going to feel a little bit hotter than today, that's going to last for sunday and even for your monday. so again, a prolonged heat wave, dangerous heat. very little in the way of rain relief. we, in fact, have nothing around right now. showers are trying to approach washington, but they're really dying out. not a lot of moisture in the atmosphere right now. but there is a lot of humidity. that's going to stick around across the entire weekend. we're going to stay fairly dry with all this heat in place. so don't expect rain relief. not until about monday afternoon. neighborhood temperatures for tomorrow, fairmont feeling closer to 105. lehigh valley, 96 degrees. mostly sunny and humid. if you're in new jersey, 97 degrees. along the shore expect the low 90s. galloway township 98 degrees possibly. dover coming in at 97 as well as wilmington. if you're heading to the shore this weekend, it's a good place to be. you can cool off in the water. but temperatures are going to be hot, right around 90 degrees. avalon, margate, rehoboth beach could be in the mid-90s possibly. atlantic city coming in in the low 90s. uv index is going to be high this weekend. sunburn in about 10 to 15 minutes. and you want to stay hydrated. so this is the type of weather where you want to avoid several hours outside. you want to stay in the shade. if you have to be outside, stay hydrated, stay cool. check on the elderly, and never leave children or animals in the car. sunday, 97, monday we could be approaching 100 degrees. needless to say, with all the heat around, and the dangerous heat because of the humidity, these are near or breaking record temperatures, too. by tuesday, 95 degrees. wednesday 94. this is a prolonged heat wave like i've been mentioning. thursday and friday we have a better chance of showers developing. especially afternoon thunderstorms. the temperatures should still be around 90 degrees. we really have no break in the forecast as you can see. 90s will pretty much stick around. this weekend is going to be the hottest of it, and leading into next week. so like we have been really stressing, this is potentially dangerous heat. that's why we want to unfortunately keep reminding people don't leave your children in the car, don't leave animals in the car. we have clear the shelters pet adoption event coming up tomorrow morning. if you're a firsttime pet owner and adopter, you're probably going to want to run to the pet store after you get the animals. do not leave them in the car. take them home first. way too hot. a lot of people think animals can handle it. they cannot. as well as children cannot. unfortunately we have to denver, warning people not to shower or drink the town's well water. they're not aware of the source since marijuana is legal in the town. authorities suspect someone may have tainted the town's well mall in munich. in the past few minutes, german police announced the toll went up to eight. several others are wounded. a police manhunt is under way across the city for three different attackers with long guns. any minute now, hillary clinton is expected to announce her running mate. she is getting ready to take the stage at a rally in tampa. sources tell nbc news she will announce her vice presidential selection during her speech. tim cain is the reported front-runner. we'll bring you clinton's choice as soon as she announces it. if you stepped outside today, this will come as no surprise, dangerous heat gripping our region. won't be letting go anytime soon, folks. you won't find much relief down the shore. check out the hot haze over atlantic city, the boardwalk there. people walking, sweating it out. all over the place today. >> if today's too hot for you, you won't like the hottest stretch of weather. >> this is going to be the hottest stretch that we have seen. because of the humidity on top of it. we have a first alert out because of dangerous heat, for pennsylvania, new jersey. not including the shore, but still going to be hot at the shore. and for all of delaware. so it is going to be a hot next several days. that seven-day right at the bottom of your screen. we have four days in a row outlined for most of our neighborhoods. the first alert now through tuesday. temperatures in the 90s. humidity will make it feel from 100 to 105 greds. that's why we're saying this is dangerous heat. take a look at what it feels like across the area. this is when we factor in the humidity. when you step outside, these are the temperatures that you're actually feeling. 99 in philadelphia. 95 wilmington. feels like 98 in dover. feels like 101 degrees right now in allentown. as we go through the next several days, here's what's going to happen. temperatures will stay in the upper 90s across the weekend. but it will be feeling a little bit hotter than today, right around 105 degrees as we go across your saturday. sunday, and even into monday. coming up, we'll take a look at the higher areas of the weekend forecast, how hot you can expect it to be heat, deanna, for a really long time. >> reporter: they are. they're going to be out here for the next 48 hours. they started setting up tents here. and kids are already warming up on the soccer field. this isn't just glorified camping. it's to raise money in the name of a bucks county team. >> 100-degree weather, with 10,000 of my closest friends is all worthwhile. >> reporter: it is a labor of love for sandra. from as far away as new york state, and virginia, soccer players are taking the field. and putting down roots to take part in a two-day soccer festival. >> my ultimate goal? to change the face of cancer in my lifetime. >> reporter: they're doing it all in the name of parvin's daughter. >> in 2007, in honor of my daughter. who died of small cell cancer at the age of 12. >> reporter: every year the event has grown from a few soccer clubs to families making it a weekend. >> i'm a single dad of four kids. i've got to get them out of the house doing something. >> very hot. we have canopies, and there's -- you know, drink a lot and try to stay cool. >> reporter: parents are braving the heat to set up camp. they said as long as the winds keep up and kids stay hydrated, the scorching heat is worth it. especially if they can raise money. again, that money staying locally for cancer research. and they do say they are grateful at least there is a bit of a breeze out people around the stadium complex. you can see a little bit of the police presence, the philadelphia police presence outside at&t station. septa will be closing the parking lot after tonight's commute, about 7:00, closing the parking lot to the at&t station. some of the other places affected, broad street, south broad street to the navy yard, as well as some of the exit ramps off i-95, the main one is exit 17, and i-76 a packer avenue exit. security obviously a priority here. they'll keep this a very tight, locked-down area. of course, the philadelphia police department will deal with exception of the shore. now, the shore is still going to be hot. temperatures will still be around 90 degrees. everybody else can expect it to feel around 100 degrees. if you look at that seven-day at the bottom of your screen, we have four days in the row for most neighborhoods outlined in red. that's going to be the duration of this first alert. that goes from now until tuesday. temperatures will stay in the 90s. with the humidity feeling much hotter, at a dangerous level, anywhere from 100 to 105 degrees. here are the temperatures right now. it's 93 in philadelphia. 90 degrees in wilmington. weather you want to stay hydrated, if you have to, find some shade and stay cool. check on the elderly and never leave children and animals in the car. unfortunately, we still have to remind people of delaware, expect temperatures anywhere from the mid to upper 90s. now we go into monday. monday we could be approaching 100 degrees in some spots. we'll also have some afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. we're still going to be in the 90s after monday. again, a prolonged heat wave and we're looking at some near record, or record high temperatures. that's probably
