Mayor guardian says of its 950 employees so far 200 or more raised hands to not collect a paycheck so long as they collect unemployment. Others are volunteering to work regardless. It has to be cleared by labor force higher ups. Atlantic city going to look like on april 9, i can tell you its not going to look different than today except probably have about 20,000 people in town for the largest beer festival on the east coast. The trash is going to be picked up. And the police are going to be in full service. It comes as the governor spoke about Atlantic Citys dire cash crisis on the radio. Christie will only sign legislation that reworks how Atlantic City collects taxes so casinos dont sink them further into debt with appeals. And he favors a full state takeover that strips Atlantic City of its government sovereignty. You have a city in that condition then the state has to step in and take more aggressive steps. And it helps more people get into treatment than any other program in the city. Their success is tied to the way that they create relationships with the people who walk through their doors. You have to treat them with respect, treat them as another human being. Inside this former church in the heart of philadelphias drug market people suffering from addiction find dignity. There is no preaching in these walls, just compassion that dr. Brian work says helps move people toward recovery. They get so outside of our normal frame of reference that they are often treated not as human beings and they dont expect to be treated in that fashion. We dont have that kind of self respect, its hard to take care of yourself. For the last 20 years, prevention point has acted as the citys needle exchange, providing clean needles to iv drug users. We have been able to bring the hiv incident rate in this city from around 50 back in the 90s, now down to 5 for the last five years. Over time it expanded, offering medicine assisted drug treatment, meals, a shelter for merngs and helping people navigate the treatment system. Originally came here for needle exchange. Then i saw the difference types of referrals, types of programs, that they could link you up with and stuff like that so like wow, kind of positive. They work to get a lot of people in treatment, the process isnt easy. If someone doesnt have proper i. D. Or paperwork they could wait months to get in a program. The best time to access treatment is when you are asking it of me. In your motivational moment if i cant deliver that in a couple hours, i think its disabling people. Looking to expedite things they teamed up with the city to waive requirements for people. The program runs for 12 weeks because the city redirects staff from other job responsibilities.
