cosmo and his family as good people. >> cosmo runs over, grabs the shovel and digs the hole for me. he says, no, i'll do that for you. that's the kind of guy he was. >> reporter: the investigation is chief meteorologist tammie souza. >> we have a heat watch that's been issued for thursday. today is the first of three days that will be in the 90s. it is an official heat wave, but it will be dangerous on thursday, mainly the heavily populated areas, not the rural areas where you have a little more grass and trees that can kind of mediate some of that heat. you have to have pavement that absorbs that heat and more. so this is for thursday and this is for dangerous heat. it will have a feels-like of 105 degrees or above. the actual air temperature somewhere between 95 and 99 degrees. let's go ahead and take a look just for tomorrow where we're going to be headed. we're going to be waking up well into the 70s. look at this. we'll be getting up into the low 90s tomorrow, and tomorrow we'll have a feels-like that is going to be somewhere around 95 degrees. so we're going to cover more of this and we're also going to take a peek at the possibility of very strong storms headed our way when i come back in just a few minutes. new tonight, donald trump jr. has spoken publicly for the first time about the firestorm surrounding his meeting with the russian lawyer. we just heard the new comments from trump in the last hour. let's get right to nbc 10 keith jones in our breaking news center. keith, we've only heard statements and seen e-mails before this. >> donald trump jr. appeared on fox news talking with hannity. he called this a wasted 20 minutes but admits he probably would have acted differently. >> if there's information out there, you want it, then you make what you do with it. >> reporter: donald trump jr. tonight. but in june 2016, his father, then-candidate trump on the trail. his son had a secret meeting with a russian lawyer, natalia veselnitska veselnitskaya, who spoke exclusively with nbc news. e-mails issued by donald trump jr. said he would be speaking with an official in the russian government. >> i just want the truth to get out there. that's partly why i released all the stuff today. >> reporter: but this russian attorney said she didn't have any damaging or sensitive information about the clinton campaign. still, senators both parties say he should testify before congressional committees investigating russian interference in the 2016 election. >> this is a serious situation and one that is a long way from over. >> we want to find out the truth. the american people deserve to know the truth. >> in retrospect, i probably would have done things a little differently. for me this was operation research. they had something, maybe concrete evidence to all the stories i've been hearing so i think i wanted to hear it out. >> reporter: tonight the president defended his namesake saying, quote, my son is a high quality person health care showdown is going to rev up again this week. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell announced today that republicans will announce a new health care bill on thursday. at least a dozen republicans opposed his previous version which came out before the july fourth holiday. mcconnell says he hopes for a vote next week. a chaotic arrest caught on camera. philadelphia police say they're investigating the video that's going viral. take a look. the video appears to show the officers slam a handcuffed man to the ground earlier monday. people watching screamed for him to stop. police tell us officers were originally in the area to investigate a drug case. there is now an internal affairs investigation into the arrest. a lehigh valley teacher is accused of using social media to send inappropriate messages to students. police say david morgasani sent nude photos to students and also sent a message to one of the victims. he watches your tv and then takes your jewelry. police charged daniel holmes for stealing $10,000 in jewelry from a newcastle county home. now they want to know if he's robbed others in his ten years as a technician. today attorneys for liz castro and grace share filed a lawsuit against parkland school district. that lawsuit claims the school violated the girls' first right to free speech. the girls were accused of being too controversial. the basketball rims are going back up in allentown. we told you last week mayor ed polaski decided to get rid of all but one of the hoops in response to complaints of noise and trash at night. the rims will now be locked at night. some say a berks county attraction is attracting the wrong kind of people. now it's prompting redmoading c council to make changes. the park is where people go to drink and play music. they posted a sign not to be there through 6:00 a.m. neighbors say that's not enough. postal workers say they know which one of their employees was driving this truck when it ran into growing. >> a local man told nbc 10 that he found more proof that debunks this photo. nbc 10 takes a look at the evidence. >> reporter: in his chester county office, nick gillespie showed us what is new evidence about a photo that has a lot of people talking. gillespie claims this picture, which some experts think sheds light on the disappearance of amelia earhart, said this isn't her. take a look. one side shows a photo of a book in japanese writing. gillespie says the caption describes the morph on the islands. the other photo shows the date below. >> the picture was taken two years before earhart disappeared. that slams the door. >> reporter: gillespie showed us the e-mail he received yesterday which led to information originally from a japanese blogger. the e-mail pointed to a book from the library of digital collections. though gillespie claims the book is from 1935, they can't prove the authenticity. >> we try to show evidence based on science. we'll go wherever the evidence leads us. >> reporter: these new claims are being investigated. five marines were awarded the navy achievement medal today for their heroic actions on mt. fuji. >> and one of them is from philadelphia. the group was hiking the mountains over the july fourth weekend when they found a woman lying on the ground hyperventilating and struggling to breathe. the marines used t-shirts and walking sticks to create a makeshift stretcher, then carried the woman down the mountain to get medical assistance. >> we ran about two miles down. i was thinking to myself, wow, missions don't hurt because the adrenaline just kicked in. wow, this is great. >> medical personnel had been alerted and were waiting at the bottom of that mountain. martinez said they were relieved to find out a few days later that the woman was okay. strangers came to the rescue after nine family members found themselves caught in a riptitde in florida. check this out. beachgoers formed a human 80-person chain. they managed to pull everyone to safety. one of the rescued women had a heart attack and is now recovering in the hospital. >> a lot of heroes out there. a heat wave has begun and the nbc weather team wants you to prepare for dangerous temperatures. >> tammie souza stand by with details in this first alert. >> we're watching dangerous heat and we're watching strong storms. we're going to get both of them in the next few days, but thursday will be our target day out there. let's start with the dangerous heat first. this is where the highs will be going. it was 91 today, 93 tomorrow. we could be up to 99 on thursday. the old record is 98, so that is very much in jeopardy. then we'll watch a strong front come through perhaps triggering some very strong storms, and wham, we go down to 83 degrees. that's a huge drop for friday and then we set ourselves up for a much quieter weekend ahead. let's go ahead and take a look at what this first alert is made up of. on thursday between 11:00 in the morning and 8:00 at night, we'll be looking at an excessive heat watch. they may up it to an advisory or warning for tomorrow. it's for everywhere you see colored in red. this is where we have the main paved surfaces so you don't see it out there in parts of berks county. it's where we can retain a lot of heat. the temperature will be between 98 and 99 and the feels-like will be 108. today we're steamy. tomorrow we'll be steamy. we'll be down right almost dangerous, between oppressive and dangerous, what could be 105 and above by the time we get to our thursday. this is where we're going tomorrow. if you're in south philadelphia, 93 for a high. chance for a shower but you'll feel like 95. in kinnick square, you'll feel like 93. let's go to new jersey because if we go to ibsham, you'll be 91 and feel like 92. in harrington, you'll be 94 and feel like 100. now, we don't have anything on the doppler radar right now, but look what we had coming out earlier this evening. it all dissipated. we did have one severe storm in south jersey earlier today. that was basically for wind and hail but nothing much actually amounted from all of that. there is more coming out of the great lakes region, so this is your hour by hour. this is what we're going to be looking at. perhaps an isolated shower in the morning. tomorrow in the afternoon we could see some gusty storms pop up, and then by the time we get into tomorrow night, we'll quiet down. but it will be thursday in the evening and overnight hours that we could see a front come through, the one that will cool us down, and that could also bring us some very gusty storms. put it in the back of your mind. the target day here will be thursday. tomorrow a high of 93 but it will feel more like 95. dangerous heat. that's what we have our first alert for on thursday. strong storms are possible at night, but that 99 high will translate into a feels-like that will be up above 105 degrees for many of us. on friday we drop to 83. that's quite a drop. we could see showers and storms and look at the weekend ahead. fairly pleasant. we'll be looking at the 80s, maybe up to 90 degrees. at this point it looks dry. guys? >> all
