I as we sat down with jason rivers, the iraq war veteran showed us where he was shot in the left hip. The bandages and pain arent from military combat but the robbery outside his home two nights ago. Philadelphia Police Say Two men tried to steal his car. And i could tell by their body chemistry they were walking slow and i no something was about to happen. Reporter he was cleaning his car when the robbers confronted him. They fought in the middle of the street. He ran away as they shot at him and this happened right by the City Surveillance camera. I pushed off and ran down the street. The reason for doing that because i knew reporter rivers didnt want his mom to be a target. Nbc 10 was there after the crime happened on north 60th street around 10 00 tuesday night. Rivers says his military training to remain calm saved his life. The veteran added this is his first problem since moving to West Philadelphia three years ago. According to the philly police crime report web site, since december 29, four other reported robberies happened within three blocks of rivers home. The most recent being three days ago. All of these crimes happened between 3 00 and 5 00 p. M. As he recovers feels like somebody hit me with a sledgehammer. Reporter detectives look for the young men who took his wallet. A man was murdered standing next to his wife outside a bar on melrose street in the frankford section and a 19yearold was killed in this cedar brooke area. Hoping for vindication, the Hillary Clinton campaign is welcoming a watchdog review of how the Justice Department and fbi handled her email investigation. This review comes from the Justice Departments inspector general. It wont look at why no one was prosecuted but it will result in recommendations to the next attorney general that could range from policy changes to discipline. An uber driver accused of beating up a passenger now faces charges. The university of Pennsylvania Police arrested the driver. We first told you about this story sunday night at 11 00. Police say the driver, major fuller is his name, was arrested yesterday. Over the holidays the passenger told us he requested an uber from University City to cherry hill but the driver refused to take him over the bridge and then attacked him. Those were photographs from after the attack. There they are again. Uber told us they removed fuller from the app. A war of words is bubbling up between city store owners and philadelphias mayor. Both were accusing the other of price gouging the cost of soda. My suspicious nature leaves me to believe they wanted to anger people and have a sticker shock. The mayor says some stores are charging more for drinks that arent even covered under the soda tax. Today the Pennsylvania FoodMerchants Association released a statement saying in part the mayors regressive tax is gouging families and Small Businesses across philadelphia. Working families and seniors living on fixed incomes arent just being cranky, they are rightfully angry. The mayor also said tonight the money from the tax, which is going toward universal prek is more important than any complaints. Tough times in delaware, governor jack markell laid out his budget and people in delaware face several tax hikes and cuts to services. The state has a 350 million deficit. One of the proposed tax hikes is on cigarettes. It could cost a dollar more a pack. Another item is funding for paramedics.
