Hermines march, the Tropical Storm roars through the south and heads our way for labor day weekend. Good evening, im jacquelyn london. We have been tracking this threat for days, and as we get new information on the storms track we are seeing new images of its power. As hermine heads our way, it is leaving destruction in its path. It pumped cedar key, damaging homes and piers. It is impossible to get off the island because water is covering the roads there. Hermine level several neighborhoods under water. Trucks were trying to get through those flooded roads. And this tree falls onto a home in georgia. Winds brought down several tries throughout savannah. Crews are working to clean all of that up tonight. And as it moves up the coast, it poses a threat to our area. We have live coverage, people, get ready. And we have the most ci Sophisticated Technology tracking this, it is radar on wheels in chesapeake, virginia, giving us more information as it moves closer to the storm. Glenn hurricane schwartz is taking a look at that data. Im getting increasingly concerned about what is going to happen at the delaware and new jersey beaches over the holiday weekend. This could end up being a historic type of storm. You can see the latest on the satellite picture, the bands, the spiral bands very clear. This is a strong tropical system. It has not weakened at all. The leading edge of the rain has gone past norfolk, virginia. 50mileperhour maximum winds. It has moved into North Carolina. Its moving at a faster speed, which is kind of interesting, because the whole things just going to stall. The newest advisory just in, like two minutes ago, 50mileperhour winds as it crosses the coast near cape hatteras, and then by sunday, still 65mileperhour storm, actually strengthening again, perhaps up to hurricane strength. Its a big storm, not just a point. And the really bad thing about it is for the forecast to turn to the left, do a little bit of loop, stall, and strengthen at the same time. It may go into hurricane strength as we go into monday. It is still offshore, off of the new jersey coastline. And the problem with that is the wind comes around it, and it keeps going over the water for hundreds and hundreds of miles. This is the kind of thing that helped lead to the big water that happened in sandy. That was in north jersey and up toward long island. The way this looks like it is trying to stall would affect southern new jersey beaches and the delaware beaches more severely, perhaps, than even sandy did. Its not going to cause the water to go down until that wind shifts into the northwest. And that may not happen until tuesday. Heres the latest track with the rain just barely getting into philadelphia later on saturday. May not be too much of a problem for the rihanna concert, but the heavy rain starting to come in on sunday, as the storm comes back, we could see some of that rain getting back to the philadelphia area, and some really heavy rain at the shore. Well get into more details on what to expect and when and how much different its going to be inland with the rest of the forecast. All right, glenn, and new tonight, heres a sign of just how serious the forecast is. Atlantic city canceled the beach concerts that were scheduled for this labor day weekend. Last night, we were there as the zach brown band performed. Georgia florida line was supposed to be there, but now those shows have been called off. Atlantic city mayor says that given the severe predictions for this weekend, we are level with no other choice. This threat is bringing back memories of the noreaster. Many who live there are on alert but plan to ride the storm out. Reporter you can get a feel for how windy it is by looking at how this street sign is moving and the flag is waving right above us. Its been like that since we got here earlier this evening. Some of these store fronts are already preparing for the bad weather thats expected this weekend. The arcade room for the families at the boardwalk casino, the staff says its usually a lot busier on friday nights. We wouldnt be able to stand here. People knew the storm was coming. Reporter hermine is putting people on notice, like this gift store, where theyre hoping the jersey shore dodges the bullet. Maybe a drizzly day. If thats the case, people will walk the boardwalk and respond to the stores. Reporter a few feet away along the beach, families made the most of the day, which may be the best chance to play in the sand and water all weekend. You can tell that the rip current is starting to pick up a little bit. Reporter see isle is no stranger to storms. While there is concern again, people who were visiting told us they arent going anywhere. I think were going to stick it out unless were told we have to leave. We have everything we need. We made the major stocks today. Were staying on the bay. We see some of the boats, it looks like theyre moving them out. Cant have the summer end this way. And we are following breaking news in northeast philadelphia. All southbound lanes of i95 near woodhaven road are closed because of a crash involving at least three vehicles. To see how far its gone down, the inner cities and the neighborhood were in now, i cant believe it. Your mayor is doing a terrible job here. Trumps outreach to africanamerican voters has included appeals like this. You walk down the street, you get shot. Reporter in our one on one interview, i pressed on how he would make a difference. Whats your plan for dealing with gun violence . You have to have strong police. You have to have Strong Community support. You dont have any, the support and the Police Together are not working. Theyre not working well. Reporter what about the guns on the street. The guns on the street, you have to take them away from criminals. They know who they are. Reporter hes also been critical and wants to withhold funds from socalled sanctionry cities. Philly is one of them. We defund sanctuary cities. We hold back money. Sanctuary cities are a disaster. Lets go do glenn hurricane schwartz. Good thing the festivals in philadelphia. Except for at the shore, its going to be a dangerous weekend. If i was headed to the shore, i would not be going. I would cancel my plans or come back tomorrow. Ive already called my family and friends and told them the same thing. Thats how serious this threat is at the beaches. Not so much inland, but especially at the beaches. The rain extends for 275 miles or more from the center. And its only about 80 miles from southern delaware, the leading edge, so it may be raining pretty soon or early in the morning. Storm ranger is in virginia right now, searching for the rain. And were seeing some of the heavier rain getting closer, and well be able to move storm ranger just with the storm as it comes closer to our area over the next couple of days. Theres a tropical fostorm warng up and down the shore, the beaches. 40 to 50mileperhour winds, gusting to 60, especially to sunday and monday. Up delaware bay, into the delaware river, were expecting flooding before this is over. These are the high tide times. By sunday and monday, from Atlantic City to rehoboth beach, we could see record coastal flooding. Yeah, ill repeat. Record. Even higher than what we saw during sandy. During the noreaster of 1992 for example. We have winds gusting 58 Miles Per Hour off the south and North Carolina coasts. 47 Miles Per Hour now with the buoys up in North Carolina. And its just churning up those waves. And heres track. If it just continued movement to the northeast, okay, we just get a glancing blow, it would be inconvenient, but, no. This is not going to happen. Weve been telling you this for days. Its going to stall or start turning back toward the left. Toward the jersey shore. Pushing the rain back toward philadelphia, making the strongest winds up there, and look, sunday its still right in the same spot at night as it was in the afternoon. Monday it doesnt move much either. So its just spinning and spinning and spinning and pushing the waves up at the beaches, and the computer models, again, they look like theyre starting to take it out to sea. And look at all the curving. Theres a lot of agreement for a freakish kind of track like this is. What to expect at the shore, 1530 Miles Per Hour on saturday with minor coastal flooding, moderate coastal flooding during the day sunday, by sunday night, there could be major coastal flooding, record coastal flooding in some areas into labor day itself as the rain lingers at the shore. The wind gusts are really going to be increasing, and you can see that. The purple is 60 Miles Per Hour. Heres the computer guidance as we go into sunday. Heres purple, up and down the jersey shore. 60mileperhour wind gusts. And so for labor day weekend, big difference, depending on where you are, philadelphia, our best chance of rain is on sunday. P.
