Were following breaking news this morning out of new jersey where a fouralarm fire destroyed a historic building. The fire broke out at the sergeantsville inn in sergeantsville, new jersey, about an hour north of philadelphia. Nbc 10s katy zachry is live on the scene for us there. You spoke to the mayor earlier who was heartbroken and called this building the heart and soul of his town. Reporter yeah chris. Youll hear from him in just a minute. In the last half hour, we were able to get closer to this historic inn that went up in flames around 2 00 this morning. Now the fire is out. But we can as we zoom in get you a shot of some of the firefighters up on the roof that are dousing some still persistent hot spots with water, trying to put them out. Here is what the fire looked like at the height of it. We have still pictures taken by a firefighter that was the first on the scene. Firefighters from neighbors towns were called in early on because of how aggressive this fire was. They fought it hard trucking in water from outside hydrants. Theres still hot spots we just showed you mainly in the roof area and the second floor. And the fire chief tells me it will take some time into the Early Morning hours likely to put them all out. One firefighter did receive minor injuries. Now the mayor, we talked about him earlier, hes here at the scene to tell me what a devastating loss this is to the community. This inn has seen historic figures like George Washington. This is the place where George Washington was. This is the place where senators and Assembly People come. This is the place where people celebrate their birthdays or anniversaries. Their life events. This is the center of our town. And its a very big hole in it right now. Reporter a very big hole in this community is right. Now, about four hours after this fire first started, most of the firefighters from the neighboring towns have left. The fire crews that remain are just really getting the hoses back to their trucks and are ready to clear on out. But once the sun comes up we know this is going to draw many people from throughout the community. Weve already seen a few who left their homes very early this morning and had to see for themselves the devastating loss that now sits in the center of sergeantsville.
