continue to follow fire activity between market and ludlow. to the latest on breaking news we're following. a row home fire in west philadelphia one person was injured. monique braxton is live on the scene. last time we checked in with you talked to the battalion chief. what have you learned? >> he told the person who is injured is a neighbor who lives about four doors down. i want to get out of the way now so you can see what's going on. she told the firefighters she had smoke irritation and they suggested she goes to the hospital. you can seeno l o a handful of firefighters. they are monitoring to make sure they have doused all the hot spots before they clear the scene. but look at our video that we captured minutes after flames were reported about 3:30 this morning. firefighters tell us they aren't sure where the blaze began because the home was so heavily engulfed when they arrived here. they do believe squatters were living inside. they tell us, according to the battalion chief that the owner of the home passed away a about a year ago and folks started moving in with their furniture. they also describe the situation as one resembling hoarders. the fire marshal remains here on the scene and he is investigating, going through, combing through the debris in an effort to determine exactly where the fire began. he tells us that it took them less than an hour to bring this fire under control. and about 45 firefighters were initially called to the scene. but right now only half a dozen remain here. looking at the trouble spots. live for now from west philadelphia, monique ] teebrax nbc news. police investigate a deadly crash and it happened at hillsdale road around 1:00 this morning. police are telling us that the driver of this toyota avalon lost control and hit several parked cars before catching on fire. the driver of that vehicle was killed and no one else was hurt. new from overnight, philadelphia police are looking for the gunman who shot a man outside a corner bar. nbc 10 on the scene at 40th and market streets and university city. investigators tell us that the victim was talking to a woman outside that bar when the shooter opened fire. the wounded man is listed in stable condition. and a search for missing college student shane montgomery has reached day nine. crews will be looking for the 21-year-old who disappeared after a night out with friends. jesse gary is live in manayunk. police plan to return to the area later today. is that right? >> vai, also, i talked with district police officers who were out on patrol during the overnight and early morning hours and no new discoveries so far. detectives will be back, again, searching for clues. this after a possible shane sighting by an employee did not happen. the bouncer thought he saw shane about 45 minutes after the college student left the bar last thanksgiving eve. but investigators say surveillance video shows it was not the missing han. that revelation led fbi and local investigators to focus their such earch on an area bou by schuylkill river green lane and efforts by family members. >> we just want my brother home. no matter what, i will go day and night and look for my brother and i will find my brother. >> rocksborough hospital staffers holding a bake sale in about three hours to help keep public attention galvanized on this case. jesse gary, nbc 10 news. 6:05 a.m. this morning. a drexel hill man is facing child pornography charges. police arrested john rybnik. he admitted having a photoy site for uploading images of children. he is being held on $100,000 bail. you're looking at a man who is now serving 100 years in prison for murdering a little boy and raping the boy's sister. yesterday a camden county judge sentenced osvaldo rivera for those crimes. he broke into the family's home back in 2012. he sexually assaulted and stabbed the 12-year-old girl. she survived. when her 6-year-old brother tried to help, rivera slashed the boy's throat. at his sentencing yesterday, their mother called him a coward who won't take responsibility. former philadelphia traffic court judge times will spend two years behind bars and pay a $5,000 fine in connection with a traffic ticket fixing scheme. a judge sentenced times yesterday for lying to a grand jury. she is the second of four judges to be sentenced in the scandal, which led to changes in philadelphia's traffic court system. also charged in a separate bribery investigation. she has agreed to plead guilty in that case. a new jersey jam scandal. a new legislative report found no evidence that governor chris christie was involved in a scheme to create traffic jams. the report drafted by new jersey lawmakers creating the traffic mess says no conclusive evidence showing christie was aware of lane closures on the bridge last fall. former christie aide directly implemented the closures, but important questions like the motive remain unanswered. the u.s. attorney's office is still investigating the scandal. meanwhile today governor chris christie wrapping up his trade mission in canada. christie will attend a wreath laying ceremony in ottawa before making an appearance in toronto. the goal of his trip to promote energy and business. happening today, tom wolf will meet with president obama. wolf will join a handful of other incoming governors at the white house. they're expected to talk with the president and vice president about the economy. wolf defeated governor tom corbett in last month's election. he takes office on january 20th. well, we are adding up the record costs this morning in this year's race for pennsylvania governor. new campaign finance report shows spending soared beyond $82 million. that works out to just more than $23 per vote in the november election. overall, governor tom corbett spent $28 million while governor elect tom wolf spent $32.5 million. that shatters the old record set more than a decade ago by more than $12 million. saturday. as far as the day we'll see a chance of a few scattered showers. by 8:00 p.m. our light rainfall moves into philadelphia and parts of allentown and into the poconos and continue into tonight. more widespread by 11:00 p.m. for parts of the i-94 corridor and then tomorrow morning we'll see a break from the rain with the exception of the poconos where it's going to start earlier, closer to noon and then widespread rain moves in, once again, by 3:00 p.m. we are expecting heavy rainfall throughout most of your saturday evening. and that's going to continue into saturday night. by 10:00, 11:00 at night clearing up and then our wind speeds pick up. a cold sunday on tap for you and with the wind speeds it will feel even colder than our high of 47 dexwrgrees. as far as today is killer. the bucks county case surrounds the killing of newtown police officer brian gregg. robert floor pleaded guilty to shooting officer gregg at st. mary hospital back in 2005. investigators say floor grabbed another officer's gun and fired several shots during a dui arrest. he wounded that second officer, as well. a court issued a stay on the execution order because floor can still file more appeals. a fourth suspect is free on bail in the alleged gang rape of a college student. they released williams last night. one of five suspects in the november 25th attack at william paterson university. only one of the accused remains behind bars. another development, the university president issued a statement on facebook yesterday promising a review of the school's policies. the statement said in part while we reassess a safe environment for our campus community and we will again review. some relief in mercer county surrounding a hepatitis a scare at a restaurant. a customer tested negative for the virus after a second round of blood work. this week we told you about a worker at rosa's restaurant and catering in hamilton township that tested positive for hepatitis a. last night hundreds of township residents came out to a vaccination clinic. doctors say the virus is highly contagious and caused by poor hygiene. >> someone not washing their hands properly and then lehigh county packed a meeting room to learn about a radio active gas that is seeping into homes and this week test results for one family's home broke all time records. nbc 10 cameras were there as neighbors learn what they can do to protect their families from the effects of radon gas. it rises from indirt and rocks undermeth homes. long exposure can cause lung cancer. this week a home in center valley tested off the charts for the gas. a normal reading is four parts per liter. the home tested at 4,000. >> especially in pennsylvania because of our geological formation. it's everywhere in pennsylvania. for some reason we're seeing this hit in this part of the center valley of lehigh county. >> home test kit will cost you 20 bucks if your home has a high reading. you should hire a process of updating its surveillance at toll stops all along the expressway. crews are installing new cameras and counting equipment. the transportation authority says the new high-tech gear is a big advance from the surveillance system the expressway has been using. and a couple minutes ago i remember when i was doing sports i predicted the eagles would win and i mention that there is no right near girard avenue and nothing too major, but it is blocking the left lane. as a result, we're starting to see a big backup forming. this is typically where we see a delay forming on 76, but just made a little bit worse because of that accident. as you can see heavy volume out there right now and drive time about 20 minutes eastbound from the blue route to the vine and i anticipate that number growing. just keep that in mind. west philadelphia still has a little bit of activity out there on girard avenue between 37th and 38th because of an accident that happened overnight. a vehicle hit a pole and brought down some wires and you can stick to lansdowne if you need to get around that. this is a really serious accident in upper hanover township. it required a medical helicopter on route 663 and 29 is still going to be a good alternate route to avoid that area. for drivers in delaware, no accidents on the majors there. just some normal volume starting to build and same situation hours closer to 10:00, 11:00 on friday, more light rainfall throughout the rest of the area and then, again, by 3:00 p.m. on saturday, pockets of moderate rainfall are expected. widespread rainfall and our entire area should see some type of rain throughout most of saturday night and then see more clearing into the early morning hours on sunday, but once all this rain is out of here, then our wind speeds will pick up and temperatures drop back down and we are going to head below average. stay below average today. 44 degrees. by tomorrow 55. but we are going to be dealing with the rainfall. the vine. you're looking at a 31-minute trip right now. definitely seeing a lot of heavy volume building on the schuylkill expressway. in upper hanover gerryville pike is blocked off and you can take 29 as your alternate and finally fire activity out in west philadelphia and between market and ludlowe and take 56 is your alternate. vai? breaking news how this fire in west philadelphia looked this morning when nbc 10 arrived on the scene. the fire broke out around 3:30. it took firefighters les than an hour to bring it under control. they did. the injured person there is a woman who lives just down the block. we're told she was complaining about the smoke and investigators will be looking for the cause of the fire and making calls and as soon as we get more information on this fire, we'll bring it to you. happening today, some education leaders in philadelphia will discuss the impact of grand jury decisions in two high-profile use of force cases. nbc 10 chris cato joins us live from our digital operation center and these protests are not just in philadelphia, protesters across the country are trying to get their message out. right, chris? >> christine, as we've seen in newsfeeds from all over the world in our digital operation center, protesters from city to city say this is bigger than what happened in the cases of eric garner and michael brown. they say this is all about how law enforcement in america deals with minorities. in new york, chicago, minneapolis and several other cities, demonstrator took to the streets again yesterday blocking traffic, expressing their outrage. these protests follow two grand jury decisions not to prosecute white police officers for killing unarmed african-american men. in philadelphia, more than 100 people gathered last night at a church in north philadelphia to form strategies for future protests. >> they have a cause and we're going to go there. >> there has been an unprecedented level of different organizations coming together to work on these issues. >> now, those activists told us that protests like the one that you see here that disrupted the city's tree lighting ceremony on wednesday have a place in the fight for justice. and that's why they will continue to hold protests like this in philadelphia. two other things we're keeping an eye on today in the wake of these protests. a lot of talk on social media from local high school students organizing like the ones we saw at temple university yesterday. so, we should see some of that at local high schools in philadelphia today. also today at 2:00 p.m., the president of the philadelphia federation of teachers union is leaders, along with members of the local clergy to decry what those grand jury decisions on the youth of philadelphia and youth across missing college student who disappeared more than a week ago. the 21-year-old was last seen leaving a bar along main street in manayunk the night before thanksgiving. crews are expecting to canvas that area. fbi and police are collecting surveillance video from businesses in manayunk in an effort to turn up some clues. >> this is a nightmare i can't wake up from. i closed my eyes and i see my baby and i can't hold him and i can't find him. there has to be information that we can find to help me find him. >> also today rocksborough hospital will hold a bake sale to raise awareness for the cause and hand out green ribbons. that color is designated for missing persons. the proceeds will go to shane's family. in burlington county family and friends will gather to remember three children who police say were killed by their mother. funeral services will be held for nicholas, alexander and nadia. investigators say their mother, janine lepage shot them inside their home in tabernacle last month then shot herself. so far no comment from new jersey state police on a possible motive. president obama will announce his choice for the next secretary of defense. ashton carter to replace chuck hagel. cartser a montgomery county native. hagel resigned last month, but will stay on the job until his successor is confirmed. meanwhile, authorities in the united arab emirates have a woman under arrest in connection with the murder of an american teacher there. this is video from abu dhabi police. the woman allegedly stabbed her on monday in the bathroom at a shopping mall. the woman is also suspected of planting a bomb outside an american doctor's home following that murder. as we head into the rest of today, a chance of showers and that chance will improve as we head into the evening and then rain is expected pushing into saturday evening. dry conditions for the eagles and it is going to be cold and windy and nor'easter is in store heading into early next week. current saturday morning, we are going to see a slight chance in the poconos during the morning hours and not until 2:00, 3:00 that we see the widespread rain closer at times and closer to 4:00 and continue throughout most of your evening heading into saturday. we won't see all this rain clearing up until we get to your early morning hours s s on sun. as far as today is concerned, expect temperatures to averaging around 49 miles per hour right near 295. vai. new information, bill cosby has something to say to the latest woman accusing him of sexual assault. find out what he's calling her. and being new jersey will hold its annual holiday fest from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. there will be carollers, pony rides and a petting zoo. we have new information on the bill cosby controversy. the comedian's lawyer said a woman suing cosby for sexual battery back in 1974 tried to extort $250,000 from cosby to keep her from filing that suit. cosby's lawyer filed a motion asking the judge to dismiss the suit and make the accuser pay more than $30,000 to cover cosby's legal costs. so far no comment from the woman's lawyer. in los angeles where the woman filed that suit, the police chief said his department will investigate any sexual abuse complaints brought against cosby, no matter how much time has gone by. the chief said so far his department has not received any allegations. the united states navy revoked cosby's title of honorary chief petty officer. the sexual abuse accusations against cosby conflict with the navy's core values. cosby enlisted in the navy in 1956 and served four years before being honorably discharged. this morning, there is some good news in atlantic city casino crisis. resorts casino hotel will under go a $4.9 million makeover to expand its convention and meeting space. the project will begin the first quarter of next year. when it's complete, more than 12,000 feet of new meeting space. the hotel is hoping to grab a bigger share of the changing casino market. meanwhile, new jersey lawmakers are at odds over the future of the state's gaming industry. yesterday in trenton the chair of the gaming and arts committee voiced his support for gambling in the northern part of the state. but local assemblyman brown said moving outside of atlantic city. two state senators introduced a rescue plan earlier this week aimed to helping stabilize atlantic city remaining casinos. just this year four casinos in atlantic city have closed. club, show boat, revel and trump plaza. also the trump taj mahal could close a week from today. >> the time it was promised and the time that is necessary in order to transition into that destination resort is a mistake and it is moving not just atlantic city, but the state in the wrong direction. >> don guardian was supposed to testify at the hearing but had to cancel his appearance because of a family issue. pennsylvania gaming officials say slot machine revenue went down nearly 4% in november compared to last year. sugar house casino saw the biggest dropoff in our area down more than 6%. sands casino dropped down by more than 5% and parx casino dropped more than 3%. happening this weekend. one of the before the government runs out of money next friday. house republicans say they want to work with democrats to pass the measure. the bill would pay for most federal agencies for a year, but only fund the homeland security department for a few months. that agency would carry out the president's executive actions on immigration. u.s. health officials are worried about the flu causing more serious illnesses or deaths following news that this year's flu vaccine may be less effective. as we told you yesterday morning, the centers for disease control says this year's vaccine does not protect well against the dominant flu strain that is out there. that strain tends to be especially dangerous for the elderly and young children. nbc 10 reached out to a local doctor who urges people to still get the flu vaccine. >> we all have a little bit of antibodies to the flu and cross reactivity will occur so that you will get some protection and even if it's not 100%, there is a very good chance if you do get the flu, you will have a milder illness. and you'll less likely to be hospitalized or get pneumonia. >> flu vaccines protect against three or four different kinds of flu virus. health officials select the strains to be included early in the year based on predictions of what will circulate during the flu season. a 9-year-old girl in tennessee is trying to make hospital visits easier for other children by collecting teddy bears for them. emily gregg is no stranger to the hospital. she makes weekly visits for transfusion because she has a plasmaw deficiency. she collected 500 bears to donate to the kids. not only a source of cuddly comfort, but the bears serve as a teaching tool, too. >> when i was 4 i used to get a bunch of bears for when i had to get ivs. >> they have to have an iv or pic line and their teddy bear can have an iv or pic line and be just like themp. >> that warms my heart. she hopes the bear will bring joy and fun into the kids' lives. >> good for emily. let's go to look at this beautiful shot at cape may. increasing clouds expected today. just gorgeous. but it is a cold start. so, don't let that pretty picture fool you. you're going to see temperatures today staying in the mid-40s and right now weekend rain is on tap for us. dry eagles forecast. still going to be cold and windy on sunday and then a nor'easter is in your seven-day forecast. but for early next week. a coastal look outside where we will see mostly cloudy skies for philadelphia. 37 degrees. northeast winds at 8 miles per hour and the rest of the region, mostly cloudy in reading and 38 in atlantic city and today, again, temperatures staying below average for us. the rest of our region, temperaturewise, 24 degrees in the poconos and 27 in allentown and 36 in washington township and below freezing in trenton and 28 degrees in doylestown and right along the shore, 29 degrees in ablawn and 38 in dover. satellite radar shows all the clouds that continue to move into our region and see scattered showers moving in from that first batch of moisture and then the main part of the system that will bring us heavy rainfall off to the west of st. louis but continue heading our way for the next 24 hours or so. so, by 6:00 p.m. tonight, chance of showers for allentown and into the poconos and then spreads down to the south along the i-95 corridor by 9:00, 10:00 at night. if you live near the 95 corridor, bring an umbrella and tomorrow morning a few errands in before 3:00, but by 4:00, we'll see moderate rainfall throughout most of our area and even heavy at times and that will continue through your entire saturday night. clearing up at 1:00 a.m. on sunday and then the winds start to pick up and we'll see cold conditions. if you plan on heading out to the eagles game on sunday, although it's going to stay dry, take a look at our wind speeds. between 15 and 20 miles per hour. 46 degrees and feel colder than that and then 38 by the fourth quarter. so, you will need your heavier eagles gear. seven-day forecast shows 55 and mild on saturday, but rain most of the evening. and then temperatures drop back down to the 40s for sunday and then we track the possibility of a nor'easter monday night into tuesday. our goal this friday morning is rather simple. just want to get folks to work on time and get home and get through the day and get ready for the weekend and do have some accidents, but for the most part the majors as i mentioned 22 at airport road and pockets heading to chester county. route 30 bypass actually looking pretty good right near route 30. boulevard northbound at bust bustleton avenue and horsham, new accident into our system. easton road near county line road. as you can see, a few different accidents out there and none of them causing any big slow downs on the majors and an accident on 76 eastbound right near girard, that has since cleared. right now on 76 is just a lot of that normal congestion that we are used to. no accidents on the majors in new jersey and if you're taking mass transit on or close to schedule. just in time for that holiday road trip a station out there selling gas for less than $2. unfortunately, its are not her, in oklahoma city. drivers can fill up $1.99 a gallon now. it's believed to be the first time in four years that a station in the united states sold gas for less than two bucks. here in our area, as of this morning, according to aaa, you'll pay an average of $2.91 in the philadelphia area and $2.62 is the average in south jersey and in the first state, $2.74. the search for missing college
