As bill showed us that extreme heat is moving in and it may feel like almost 100 degrees today and that means you need to take extra precautions if youll be outside for long at all today. Reporter muggy and sticky and getting stickier and that breeze we were feeling earlier this morning has subsided a bit. We see a few people getting in an early run because these temperatures youre feeling now are the most comfortable youll feel all day. It turns out these conditions are just right for doing work on city streets as well. During our drive around philadelphia this morning we saw crews painting traffic lines around city hall. This is the coolest time of day to do it. Yesterday we saw temperatures into the 90s. High humidity as well. Instead of having your kids play in fire hydrants as we saw, most city and county pools are now open. Thats really the safest way for you and your family and your kids who may be home from school to stay cool. At 6 00 im working on a story about where you can take your elderly neighbor your elderly relative during these extreme conditions with the heat and humidity. A group of Good Samaritans may have helped save the life of a man who was shot overnight in north philadelphia. It happened at germantown avenue and ontario street around 12 30. Investigators say the victim was shot in the back multiple times. He managed to run to a nearby restaurant and collapsed. People inside flagged down a passing ambulance. The victim is now in critical condition. This morning in Delaware County, the American Red Cross is helping dozens of people forced out of their apartments by a fire. Just take a look at this photo posted on instagram of the scene in lansdowne last night. Sky force 10 was overhead as crews rushed to treat someone taken from the burning building. Were working to find out the condition of that person. There are no reports of any other serious injuries. The Apartment Building has been around for more than 80 years. Its not clear how the fire started. We talked to the red cross on scene. They set up a shelter for the displaced residents. This is a life changing experience for many people and so we wellreally want to make sure they know the red cross is there for them and theyre not in this alone and well help them through every step of the way. The red paws relief team went inside to search for pets. They found more than a dozen. Some were hurt. Several other pets are missing. Beaten into a coma over a pair of headphones. This morning a Chester County family is deciding whether to press charges against a student who they say beat up their 17yearold son. The victims parents turned to social media for support posting this photo of him in a hospital bed. Police were called out wednesday morning and there was a fight over a set of broken headphones. Their son was punched in the face by another student. Went into a coma. He awoke yesterday. Police have not said if charges will be filed. In Delaware County authorities want people to be on the lookout after a jogger was attacked. A woman went out for a run monday night. Authorities say she realized a man was running behind her and that man pushed here into a fence and fondled her before taking off. A new proposal in philadelphia would allow Parking Authority officers to track more than just your car. Democratic mayoral nominee came up with the plan putting parking officers on the lookout for nonparking violations. Violations may include trash and dumping problems blocked sidewalks and suspicious construction sites. The ppa officers would not necessarily be writing tickets for the nonparking violations but more likely reporting concerns to the proper city department. Putting work load on someone else and paying another department to just do that. I dont understand. Only nbc 10 was there for last nights Council Meeting when members realized they didnt have enough vote to overturn the mayors veto of their decision to eliminate their borough manager position. The arguing prompted the mayor to leave the meeting early. The former borough manager was at the center of the discord. She and councilwoman pat williams grabbed documents out of each others hands and this happened in the first meeting for the state appointed borough administrator. From our Delaware Bureau the first dispensary for medical marijuana is set to open two weeks from today. The opening comes four years after governor jack markell and legislators legalized marijuana. There are three medical marijuana dispensaries open in new jersey. In Pennsylvania State lawmakers are now considering a bill that legalize medical marijuana. More news out of delaware this morning. A ban on indoor use of ecigarettes is headed to the governors desk for his signature. The state Senate Passed a bill that adds them to Clean Indoor Air act. Shops are exempt from the ban but shops must ban anybody under the age of 18. Four years ago new jersey was the first state in the country to ban ecigarettes indoors. In pennsylvania, there is a bill up for discussion next week in the house to do the same thing. Philadelphias popup parks and beer gardens are a sign of summer but in point breeze controversy is also on tap. Some people say alcohol fueled parties are not what a struggling neighborhood needs right now. Some Community Members say the beer garden creates an open door for issues and problems but others say the garden was an abandoned lot before this and this is making the area look better. The project developer told us they turned nothing into something. And most people we talked to there in point breeze agreed. I dont have a problem with it. We cleaned up a lot of the trash. Its a nicer place to look at. We talked to the parks general manager who says they check everyones i. D. Before serving beer. Now on 42 freeway in new jersey currently no problems. Everything is moving along great. Northbound from 55 toward walt whitman bridge a 13minute trip. Montgomery county has a little bit of a selling problem on its hand. Its right in front of the courthouse. It took time to find it. A county employee noticed an error on several signs, not just a few of them. There are 26 of these signs that youll see here. This one is outside the courthouse. See if you can spot the mistake here. Something is missing. Look closer. It is in the word commissioners. There should be two of those ms. Theres only one. The county says it will take about ten days to fix the signs and it will cost about 4,000. More surveillance cameras will soon be focused on the streets of allentown. Several businesses are donating a 100,000 to pay for seven new cameras. The cameras have been fantastic. Addition to our resources to prevent crime and identify and arrest individuals when crimes have occurred. Allentown has more than 140 cameras in its surveillance network. June is national trails month and the philadelphia Circuit Coalition is encouraging people to use the hundreds of miles of bicycle and pedestrian trails in this area. Not related to mummers. Foxes are being spotted in Populated Areas of ocean city. There are fears of animals getting too close to visitors. A young red fox mingling with crowds lined up outside a popular restaurant. Officials think the foxes were born just a few months ago and are part of a growing fox population on the barrier island. They have gotten used to people giving them handouts on the board. We need people to stop feeding them. We want them to get back into the wild. Experts say they know of five active fox dens in ocean county but state guidelines prohibit hem from moving the animals. They want people to be careful and stop feeding them.
