This cold weather, of course is causing concern for parents who worry about their kids waiting out there on the school buses. Nbc 10s matt delucia is live for us in center city. Matt, last half hour you talked about all the things that weve come to do to stay warm like layering up and staying dry. Doctors say theres Something Else people should be doing, right . Reporter yeah, absolutely. Of course, it comes down to wearing the layers and keeping them fed. The kids fed, of course. We spoke with some parents yesterday at the bus stop. And they were waiting for their kids to get on the bus. But days like this one have them thinking about the alternatives. We are expecting the windchill to dip from the Single Digits down below zero today and tomorrow. Tens of thousands of students in our area wait for the bus every day. We did speak with a few parents who are trying their best to keep the kids warm. Some are opting to avoid the bus stop and drive to school instead. We also talked with a pediatrician who tells us that there really isnt one allimportant way to handle this kind of thing, that parents should feel what the kids are feeling while theyre outside and see what theyre comfortable with. And some of the older children can handle the difficult, brutal temperatures a little bit better than the younger kids. But well come back out here live once again. You see out here on the ben franklin parkway, there is still some snow left on some of the untreated areas, the grass surfaces. And of course there is also some ice on some of the untreated surfaces left out there. But making sure the kids are wearing lots of layers and keeping the hands feet dry, very important, and so is eating. More on that coming up in the next half hour. Ten years ago today this couple vanished after leaving a south street bar. Nbc 10s katy zachry is live to tell us about this renewed effort. Katy, tell us more. Reporter hi, tracy. What it means is more agents will work on this case trying to solve it. Of course this case began ten years ago today when the couple who was on this block of south street vanished with no sign. 35yearold Richard Petrone and 34yearold Danielle Imbo vanished without a trace. They were last seen in a south street bar. Their credit cards, their phones, never turned up. This case is now part of the fbis new cold case initiative. It means more agents will go back over the case and determine if people need to be reenter viewed. The victims families tell us they have high hopes. Were holding on to justice. Thats what i want more than anything. You know not knowing what happened to him is an unbearable thing for a mother. Reporter investigators tell us they believe it is unlikely that one person pulled off this crime on their own. The families share that thought. And theyve gone so far to say they believe that the couple was killed. Now, coming up in the next hour youll hear much more from the victims family about this cold case and the renewed effort to find the person or the people responsible. Happening later today in bucks county the trial is set to begin for a teenager accused of trying to rape another student at knifepoint in a school bathroom. Cody hendricks was just 15 at the time of his arrest. Hes charged as an adult facing charges including attempted murder. Police say he chased a classmate with a knife, dragged her into a bathroom and tried to rape her before a teacher stopped him. Were learning more about a murder victim with ties to one of entertainments biggest names. Devin pickett, a tour manager for music star nicki minaj was stabbed to death early yesterday in west oak lane. We covered that as breaking news yesterday morning. Police say pickett was hanging out at the che bar and grill with friends when they got into a fight with another group of men. Pickett was in town getting ready for minajs next tour with philly rapper meek mill. We spoke to picketts cousin who was too upset to show his face. Rehearsal, so they were all here for her. I guess they were out celebrating and things just went wrong. Picketts coworker on the minaj tour was also stabbed but is expected to recover. Police have not made an arrest but are reviewing surveillance video. The city is offering a 20,000 reward in the case. Out of our Delaware Bureau now, education secretary arne duncan will visit wilmington and newark to mark the progress of schools in that state. Duncan will tour classrooms in both cities. Hell also join the governor on a discussion with teachers on preparing students for college and careers. This morning were seeing documents that could outline how pennsylvanias attorney general would defend herself against possible criminal charges. Kathleen kane is fighting the results of a grand jury investigation. That panel recommended charging her in connection with the leak of grand jury information in documents presented to the state Supreme Court yesterday, a Montgomery County judge said he did have the authority to appoint the special prosecutor who led the grand jury probe. Kane is challenging that saying he did not have the legal standing, and shes calling for the appointment to be declared unlawful. Medical marijuana is legal in new jersey and now theres a new campaign to legalize recreational use. A group of prosecutors, civil rights activists and Health Officials announced plans yesterday in newark. They will push for legislation to legalize tax and regulate marijuana distribution. At times its going to feel like its 20 below zero. This weekend, cold enough for some snow later on saturday but temperatures will be warming. So what starts as snow will end as rain. That wind is blowing out of the northwest. Its always a cooling direction for us. And those winds have been gusting to near 30 miles an hour in the poconos. And look at millville. 29mileanhour wind gusts there, too. So the windchills right now, six degrees below in reading. Five degrees below for doylestown and blue bell feels like one below right now in philadelphia. While northeast philadelphia is at three degrees below zero. It is zero the windchill right now in millville and Atlantic City. And wilmington two degrees below zero. So its a cold morning but it is dry. We saw a few scattered snow showers last night. Well be watching north and west later this morning and early this afternoon for those clouds to start moving into the area. So well start with sunshine but clouds will arrive with a few flurries to start with or a brief snow shower blowing through during the Late Afternoon hours. Eight more people face charges in an ongoing Illegal Dumping investigation in new jersey. The department of Environmental Protection says Construction Material and household trash was dumped in state parks and nature areas. Richard Stockton College in Galloway Township officially took that name last night. The school opened in 1971. Enrollment has jumped from 1,000 students to more than 8,000. And the name change comes just months before the school opens its island campus on the boardwalk in the old showboat casino in Atlantic City. The school expects classes to start in the fall. Now the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation wants to develop the 11acre site. Theyve initiated a process to Ask Developers if theyre interested in building a project there. Now, the site is located at Spring Garden street and delaware avenue. Developers have about a month to express any interest.
