Two people were stabbed outside of a bar in philadelphia overnight. One of those people is now dead. This is happening in the citys west oak lawn neighborhood. Matt delucia has been on the scene there just since before 4 00 a. M. This morning. Matt, what do you know at this point . Reporter well, chris, ive been talking to police out here this morning and they are fairly confident that they have a good amount of evidence to work with out here. Im going to get out of the way and you can see on the 6300 block of stanton avenue this is all blocked off as the investigation continues. But right now one man is dead and another is in critical condition. The police tell me that there was an argument inside this bar right around 2 30 this morning. The argument continued outside and thats when witnesses say the stabbing happened. The two victims in their late 20s were stabbed several times. The witnesses put them in their car and drove them to einstein medical center. And the hospital workers were the ones who called 911 when the victims were brought in. The 29yearold tragically died. However, the 27yearold was stabbed multiple times and is in critical condition. Theres a good possibility that the private vehicle that drove this 27yearold may have saved his life. Reporter police right now are working on the details of what happened. That argument what it was about, detectives are working on a theory for now that a recently fired employee at the bar may have had something to do with it. But the three witnesses are still being interviewed by homicide detectives. And right here on the scene, police found blood, a cell phone, hat and glasses. And right up there, i want you to take a look here, the Reason Police are so confident in this investigation is partly because of this. A city crime camera recorded at least part of this stabbing but they are looking at that video now. For now, live in west oak lawn matt delucia, nbc 10 news. New from overnight, pgw crews are working to fix a gas leak that forced people from their home in north philadelphia. A call came in admit night about a strong odor there. Crews evacuated several homes and those people stayed warm on a septa bus. 5 03. Slick spots left behind from yesterdays snow could create some problems this morning. Major roads in the philadelphia area are clear, but some side streets like this one are still a bit icy. Nbc 10s katy zachry went to find some problems this morning and tell us what you found, katy. Reporter this is Central Avenue directly to my right. You can see while theres still snow on it the main part of Central Avenue that cars are right now driving on thats okay. But theres enough snow here and then on the side of Central Avenue, its really filled with snow. So if you didnt dig out your car yesterday, be prepared that you should walk to your car this morning. Bundle up because its cold outside, but we see a few cars right here who are really going to need to shovel or good tires in order to get out of this pretty snowy area. And its very slick as well. This is one of the mornings where you are really going to need substantial trade on your tires. Because if you dont, you will go over spots. Some parts of the city are still very snowy and slick. This fire happened on monday. And because of the extreme temperatures, it was left coated with ice. Look at the threestory structure that a lot of people have driven through this neighborhood to look at. But the citys license and inspection said it is deemed imminently dangerous. And they feel that it must come down. So some of the neighbors agree. This is a done deal it. Looks like its in no way, shape or form to be fixed. So yeah theres no reason to keep it hanging there. We dont need abandoned houses sitting around. Reporter the threestory structure was weakened by fire and now coated with thousands of pounds of ice. The owner fears it could collapse. Lni fears it could collapse thereby destroying Properties Around it. So at this point everyone is waiting for the fire marshall to determine exactly what caused mondays blaze. And then at that point the opener openeropenwner plans to take the structure down and they would have to evacuate the structures around it to make sure they are not in any danger which enthis when this building is demolished. Seven minutes past 5 00 philadelphia officials will look at dozens of applications for new Charter Schools. Critics say the city cant afford. The school informed commission will grant or deny the applications at a special public hearing this afternoon. And Opposition Group of parents, students and citizens plan to demonstrate outside the hearing. They say more Charter Schools will take away funding from public schools. And a seminar in Atlantic City today will tackle the questions surrounding Police Officers use of force. The Atlantic County Prosecutors Office along with the Pleasantville Police department are sponsoring a seminar on a policeinvolved shooting to focus on behavior during lifethreatening encounters. And it will also address how evidence is gathered and presented to grand juries. The seminar starts at 9 30 at the conventioner center in Atlantic City. And a grand jury did not indict officer darren wilson. But attorney general eric holder said yesterday he expects the department to release its findings before he leaves office in the next few weeks. A teenager girl was treated for possible hypothermia after being rescued from icy waters in monmouth county. Take a look emergency workers pulled the 14yearold girl to safety from the Sandy Hook Bay in middletown township. The teen and her friend climbed along the pipe that leads from the shore of the bay out into the water. The girl apparently lost her footing and fell in. The two young ladies were probably playing on the ice, and found themselves in a bad situation. Again, like i said none of the ice in new jersey is safe. You really need to stay off it especially on the bay. People living nearby in the Sandy Hook Bay say it usually doesnt freeze over because of the salt water content, but this winter has been exceptionally cold. Police are telling kids to stay off frozen lakes. But not everyone is taking the advice here. The nbc 10 crew spotted a group playing hockey in medford. Police have stepped up patrols in the area. The eagles safety nate allen is speak out after being detained by police in his home state of florida. He was falsely accused of exposing himself on monday in ft. Myers and was questioned by police for fourandahalf hours before being released. Police say his 16yearold accuser changed her story several times. Allen says he did nothing wrong. Even just having this type of accusation tagged to your name something this disgusting and repulsive, thats what bothers me at the end of the day. Allen said he wants to let his accuser know shes forgiven. And according to several reports, they are looking for new investors or a buyer. And from our Delaware Bureau now, new figures show a Record Number of delaware students are staying in school. The state Education Department report shows the dropout rate for high schools in delaware is the lowest it has been in 30 years. This is a live look at route 22 at 309. 22 is clear right now of any accidents the entire length so thats good news for drivers. As you can see, it is very quiet out there. Just a few drivers on the roads. 309 is also quiet, but other majors in the Lehigh Valley include 78. Drive time there is 22 to 23 minutes between the Delaware River bridge and the split with route 22. So 78 is clear, the northeast extension is also free of any accidents. And if youre traveling south on the northeast extension and making your way to the pennsylvania turnpike thats also quiet. Drive times between ben salem and valley forge are 22 minutes in both directions. Our skies are clear. Well see lots of sunshine but this morning youve got to really bundle up. For today, temperatures with sunshine will warm to near freezing. So melting will be occurring today, but it refreezes tonight. In fact well get a dusting of snow in parts of the area tonight. Might see some snow to start with, but then it changes to rain during the evening hours as temperatures climb and we see rain on sunday with a high of 46 degrees. But thats one day in the 40s. We are back to the 30s and 20s monday and tuesday. Well commuters in boston a lot of them are fed up with continued delays on the Transit System following the record snowfall they have had there. Transit officials warn that the Regional Rail system around boston wont run normally again for at least a month. Longer if theres another significant snowstorm, but the governor hopes the agency can get back on track sooner than that. He sent National Guard troops and Prison Inmates on work release to help clear ice and snow from the tracks.
