Witnesses say 7yearold allure mclaine was struck crossing north 42nd street last night. One vehicle stopped for the crossing but said the driver of a second swerved around the car, hit the child, sped off, and thats incensed the girls family. Investigators say that victim was found inside an apartment on mannheim street. He had been shot twice and died at the hospital. A short time later, police saw a man jump out of a car. They chased him and made an arrest. Investigators tell nbc 10 he was identified by a witness at the scene of the shooting. Autopsies will be performed on the president of Cooper University health care and his wife after the couple was killed in a house fire. Prosecutors say the circumstances surrounding the fire that killed 72yearold John Sheridan and his 69yearold wife, joyce, are still being investigated. Firefighters responded to the sheridans home in Montgomery Township just before 6 15 a. M. On sunday. The fire was contained to an upstairs bedroom where the couple was found. Investigators say John Sheridan died at the scene. His wife was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died a short time later. Nbc 10 and nbc10. Today the trial will begin for former philadelphia sportscaster don collison. Hes accused of stealing more than 100,000 through a sportsrelated charity scam. Tollison was arrested in february after police say he tricked people into buying tickets to sporting events, telling them the money would go to charity, but instead, investigators say he kept the cash and the buyers never got the packages they paid for. His trial is being held in doylestown. Also today, leaders from wilmington and camden will be in washington to take part in an anticrime summit put on by the justice department. Its called the Violence Reduction network, and its all about making the streets safer. Federal Law Enforcement authorities will be brought in to help the cities identify Violent Crime problems and offer solutions. Police still have no suspects in the murder of a philadelphia woman shot while walking her dog. It happened saturday night along morse street in the Strawberry Mansion section. Authorities say Kathryn Berry was shot twice at point blank range. Her family says they have no idea why someone would target the Home Health Aid and mother of four. Police believe she was intentionally targeted. Investigators are trying to figure out why. Happening today, a couple is scheduled to appear in court for a hitandrun crash in Delaware County that injured a teen on his bicycle. Police say Adrian Mccreery was driving when she ran over that teenager in ridley park in april. Her boyfriend, ty winschimer is also facing charges. They say mccreery was seen at two different bars the night of the crash. The 18yearold victim, christopher brooks, has a brain injury and had to have part of his leg amputated. An upper darby woman was arrested for allegedly arranging a fight between her teenage daughter and a classmate. Nicole edna houlton is charged with endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. According to the Delaware County daily times, investigators spotted the girls fighting in a parking lot. A driver pulled over for not wearing a seat belt is facing much more serious charges now. Authorities say when officers topped matthew trentley on us13 in kent county, they found an assault rifle, brass knuckles, marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia inside his car. Trentley is facing several charges now, including carrying a concealed, deadly weapon. He is being held on 13,000 bail. This morning an american doctor exposed to ebola in sierra leone is at the National Institutes of Health Hospital near washington. He was admitted yesterday to a special Isolation Unit for observation. Officials say the doctor has not necessarily contracted the virus. He is in isolation as a precaution. Meantime, back here in our area, the Philadelphia Union and Temple University teamed up to help fight ebola, encouraging people to kick ebola in the butt. It was a challenge involving taki kicking a slightly inflated ball at somebodys behind and making a donation. All responded to the outbreak in west africa. Happening today in montgomery county, leaders will introduce a new initiative called communities who care, aimed at preventing drug use among young people. State senator Stewart Green leaf will hold an announcement in horsham township. He says its all about fighting a growing drug problem in communities across pennsylvania. Police say the 5yearold son of this california couple facing drug charges had cocaine in his system. Marco we haveas and his wife, sandy, were stopped on saturday. Officers say they saw the boy in the back seat sitting next to a halfpound bag of cocaine and he was tested and came up positive for the drug. Investigators say a search their home turns up drugs, guns and cash. Police in ferguson, missouri, say a shooting over the weekend is not related to the unrest over the death of michael brown. It happened saturday night as an officer was questioning a man about a burglary. He took off, fired shots at the officer, hitting him in the arm. This Morning Police are still looking for that man. Now, this is just the latest episode, of course, in a city where tension remains high between police and the public. A short time after that shooting, an offduty officer came under fire. He was not injured. And there is no evidence that that shooting was related to the ferguson protests either. A candlelight vigil was held at North Central Texas College for the victims of this weekends fatal bus crash. The prayer vigil was in honor of all crash victims. The president of North Central Texas College says its the most traumatic event the campus has ever faced. Now, four members of that colleges Softball Team were killed when a tractortrailer crossed the center line and hit the teams van late friday night in oklahoma. Sources tell nbc news that the truck driver told authorities he was reaching for a drink on the passenger side of his cab when he drifted into the median. Today the trial will begin for a friend of the Boston Marathon bombing suspect who was accused of lying to investigators. Robel phillipos is seen here. He is one of three difference of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev charged in connection with the bombing. Hes pleaded not guilty. Two of tsarnaevs other friends were already convicted for impeding the investigation. A judge granted a twomonth delay for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev but denied a request to have the trial moved out of boston. The bombings killed 3 people and wounded more than 260 others. Tsarnaevs brother, also accused in the attack, was killed, as you know, in a Police Shootout days after the bombings. 4 49 now. The faa expects improvements in air travel today after a weekend of canceled flights because of fridays fire at a suburban chicago control center. Officials are replacing the entire Computer Network at that facility. Authorities say a contract worker started the fire, then tried to commit suicide, leading to thousands of canceled flights, impacting travel across the country. The National Football league has made a multimillion dollar commitment to support the National Domestic violence hotline. Commissioner Roger Goodell visited the hotlines headquarters in austin over the weekend. California governor jerry brown has signed a bill making his state the first in the country to define when yes means yes. In fact, no fog at all for allentown, reading and pottstown. A little light visibility reduction in bluebell, but not an issue for wilmington or philadelphia. Mt. Holly, the visibilitys now at 6 miles, but the fog has really developed in millville and Atlantic City since 3 00 this morning. Atlantic city has been stuck at quartermile visibility. Thats some dense fog. That could cause some delays at the airport if it persists this morning. Its not going to last all day, but the temperatures will be climbing into the upper 70s to around 80 degrees, in spite of clouds coming in. As far as showers are concerned, theyre to our west this morning, just some scattered, light showers. More impressive to the south. This is a system that will be with us into tomorrow that will give us a chance of some showers for tomorrow, but not for today. Certainly it was warm over the weekend. 86 degrees yesterday afternoon. And its going to be a warm one today, but we will not see the brilliant sunshine we had yesterday. Clouds have already started to move into the area. But theres no rain. It is dry in center city. However, theres a bit of fog. Right now Atlantic City continues to report quartermile visibility, and its just reduced, the visibility in millville down to half a mile there. The fog will be ending as the temperatures warm up a bit. Right now were in the 50s and 60s. Pottstown is 58 degrees. 58 in millville, while its in the 60s right along the i95 corridor. We will warm into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees this afternoon. Normally this time of year wed see temperatures during the afternoon in the low 70s. So, unusually warm. 64 degrees at 7 00. By 9 00, well be closer to 70 degrees. Then into the upper 70s later today.
