The plane lost contact with air Traffic Control sunday while flying from surabaya to singapore. Richard jordan has more. Reporter these images aired on Indonesian Television show the latest discoveries that are evidence of a plane crash in the java sea. The relatives watched in horror as their worst fears played out before their eyes. Airasia flight 8501 vanished after the pilot reported severe storms ahead. In this particular instance we had good radar coverage. They had radar on the aircraft until the airplane went into probably a very dense part of that thunderstorm. Reporter the flight from surabaya to singapore disappeared minutes after a request from the cockpit to climb in altitude because of bad weather. This first crash for airasia. They have a good Safety Record. We all know when it comes to Industries Like aviation that just because you have a good Safety Record that doesnt mean you are immune to events like this. Reporter five countries have been asked to provide resources to aid in the search. A destroyer in the South China Sea was sent to help locate the wreckage but may be used for recovery now that air Traffic Control officials report debris found is from the missing flight. The state department is willing to consider requests for additional help, but that may not be needed now that airasia confirms the wreckage was found. Richard jordan, nbc news, washington. There was another incident involving airasia today. Reports on twitter show that an airasia flight that left from manila overshot the runway when it landed. Passengers started tweeting piths as evacuations were made by the planes emergency chute. There were 153 passengers and six crew members on board. No reported injuries. Passengers aboard a diverted American Airlines flight are in miami this morning. The plane took off from bogota yesterday. After pilots encountered a pressure issue, they were forced to land in jamaica. A second plane was sent to jamaica to pick up the 197 passengers and nine crew members. Could tell something was wrong because we were dropping pretty fast. And then after a while we stopped and 15 20 minutes later the pilot said there was a problem. They arrive safely this morning. Philadelphia police say they have found the man responsible for a series of rapes in pennypack park. Jesse gary joins us live at the park to bring us details. Whats the reaction from people who live and exercise around the area . Reporter a lot of relief. I talked to people this morning. One woman in particular who says she was afraid to come to this section of the park and do her daily walking. She stayed close to the homes for safety. Robert palin was wanted for crimes against women dating back to 2010. Investigators say he would lure women into his pickup truck and then drive them to the park and carry out the crime. I talked to one resident minutes ago who remembers the warnings years ago about a criminal on the loose. Shes relieved the case is apparently solved. Its assuring that they finally have done it. Because when you any person like myself you are always looking over your shoulder. You always want to be careleful. Anyone who is a person like that, when you take them off the streets, its a better you feel a little bit more secure. Reporter held on 5 million bail. We have new information about a fire in a New Castle County home. The fire marshal said the fire was a case of arson. The home was built back in 1871. Preliminary hearing scheduled for an accused sexual predator who targeted college students. 55yearold james bare rote wasrett was arrested after they caught him assaulting a student on the street. They believe he is connected to four other attacks. The man charged in a deadly shooting will be in court today. He is scheduled to have his hearing this morning. He is accused of killing a woman outside the Dell Music Center back on august 13. Police believe the two men were fighting over a woman when he pulled out a gun and shot him. A vigil for peace happening right now in camden. The vigil started early this morning. It will continue until 11 00 tonight. It will run tomorrow from 5 00 a. M. To 5 00 p. M. It will be 31 hours long in total, one hour of prayer will be devoted to each murder victim from camden this year. Family members of each victim are invited to attend. Philadelphia Police Holding a News Conference right now after they have say they have made an arrest, we told about you this in a series of rapes in pennypack park. A pattern investigation that here at special victims developed in august 2011. August 3, 2011 we had a 24yearold female report to special victims that she was in the area where she met a white male driving a while pickup truck with ladder racks on the truck. Like a work truck. At which time she was taken from that location given a ride to the area of 8100 block of cresco, which is just between raun street and welsh road in the pennypack location. They walked into the park. The minute the victim got into the park with the offender, mr. Palin palin, an aggressive assault occurred where he beat her and then sexually assaulted her. Leaving her barely clothed, bleeding and left her there. Police officers responded to transport her to a hospital where she was treated for fractures of the face as well as sexual assault. During that course of that investigation, we were able to obtain a composite sketch which was developed. As well here we look for pattern investigations. This incident after interviewing the victim matched in the common scheme and decide of an identical rape that occurred in the same area with a male matching the same description, same time frame as well as same month, even though it was a year apart. It was a 2010 rape investigation that we had here. Again, we look for patterns each day. Over a year later, as i remember looking and reading in jobs this job popped up. We researched it and we were able to put out this composite sketch. Based on the sketch that we put out, a third victim came into special victims unit and identified this male as the exact same way. Shes on leave after being involved in a deadly hit and run crash saturday afternoon. This morning, flowers mark the street where 41yearold tom polarmo was killed. Police wont discuss the case. Witnesses say the driver fled the scene. Church officials acknowledge she was the driver. You can see the point of impact on her cars windshield. In a statement they say she returned 20 minutes later to take responsibility for her actions. Across baltimore, bike riders say they fear this and they are outraged the driver didnt stay to help. Maybe cohe could have been saved in the 911 call had been made right away. The father of two was quiet and had a kind heart. He was an advocate for bike access and bike safety. Its not cooks first brush with the law. In 2010 she received probation before judgment for a drinking and driving charge in maryland. She was also charged at the time with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The charges were dropped and she completed her probation period. Church leaders are stunned. Shes a very considerate very kind person. Shes a wonderful priest and has a huge heart. I am deeply saddened by this event. Reporter cooks lawyer wouldnt discuss saturdays crash but told the Washington Post cook was distraught about the death of the cyclist, naturally. And added shes praying for him and his family. Philadelphia police are searching for robbers targeting people walking alone. Police say they have been nine robberies. Patrols have been stepped up in the area.
