One part of the story is that they are willing to make concessions. Monique braxton has been monitoring the situation and joins us live from outside the Teachers Union headquarters in center city. Reporter sources tell us right now the local leaders as well as the National President of here behind closed doors at the local offices strategizing. This follows a morning of protests at several schools across the city. Our camera was rolling when more than a dozen teachers at northeast high waves posters. Its turn out the truth day for the teachers. Teachers met parents as they dropped off Elementary School students at john kelly school. The police were called in. The message, abolish the School Reform commission because it isnt being honest. Teachers are willing to make concessions. We are willing to contribute towards healthcare. But were not willing to be stuck up by the src and to spend 500 a pay in order to have a family plan. Reporter the src canceled the contract on monday. Also imposing changes in healthcare and filing a lawsuit against the union. We have reached out to the School District for a response. Were awaiting a call back from them. The first study of a possible ebola vaccine is under way in africa. The u. S. Government developed the vaccine given to three healthcare workers. Researchers hope to get 40 workers involved in the study. If it appears safe, larger trials could be carried out in the outbreak zone. Passengers on a flight from philadelphia got an ebola scare. Men in hazmat suits boarded the plane after a man told passengers that he had the virus. When the flight landed at its destination, the man was removed from the plane. After two hours, investigators discovered it was just a joke. We spoke with passengers about the incident this morning at Philadelphia International airport. I think its important to be serious about this issue. Just like security threats, you cant joke about that. The man is still being tested as a precaution. U. S. It says the High School Football coach violated the constitution by praying with his team. They report that the freedom from Religion Foundation sent a letter to the School District. It says the coach has to be religiously neutral while acting in an official capacity. Racial unrest continues to stir in missouri. This was the scene in st. Louis last night as protesters continued to demonstrate over the death of 18yearold durrell christmas. He allegedly opened fire on a white offduty officer. More protested expected over the next four days it over another Deadly Police shooters. Thousands of activists will be in the st. Louis area to protest the death of michael brown. The unarmed teenager was shot by police in ferguson two months ago. Demonstrators are demanding that the officer who killed brown should be charged. The u. S. Justice department is investigating. According to fire officials, an airplane working to fight a wildfire was brought down by hot metal fragments sparked by a ground vehicle. 62yearold pilot was killed when the plane crashed into a wall earlier this week. Do you have any idea, any guess about what kind of season its going to be in terms of the flu this year . Its hard to guess what is coming in the future. We prepare for the flu because we will definitely have flu in our area. But how big a flu year it will be will have to remain to be seen. A lot of people i do all the time the difference between the flu and a cold. They are quite different. They are both caused by viruses. Common cold usually gives you very little, if any, fever. It gives you some prewarnings. A day of maybe sniffling and a mild sore throat. You think, i wonder maybe im getting sick. The next day a little more stuffiness, then the cold symptoms. You say, i have a cold. The flu typically hits so quickly that one minute you are up and about feeling quite well and suddenly you are thinking, i want to go to bed. Like a mac truck. I remember the old saying, feed a flu or starve a cold . Which one is it . I like the one that you get to eat. Well, i think that whenever you are ill, you should definitely hydrate and eat, if its possible. The treatment for both is symptomatic. But the flu is an illness that usually will keep you home in bed and is, unfortunately, associated with far more complications. Helen, im a former athlete. Im very superstitious. I got the flu shot and i got sick. Theres a lot of people who are like me who dont get the shot because they got sick or they think they get sick after. What would you say to them . I think thats a very common misconception. The flu shot is not live virus. Its antigenbased. Its protecting you this year from usually three strains of what we think is coming. But it is not a guarantee of Perfect Health for the winter. I can tell you if you get sick after the flu shot, it wasnt one of the components of the flu shot that you are getting, most likely. Its some other illness thats in our community. For young moms and dads out there with children, would you remember men the flu shot or the nasal spray for children . Both can be used for children. Theres a big difference between the two. The nasal flu preparation is actually live virus. It is virus thats been attenuated, meaning weakened so it doesnt create a fullblown flu but it does prompt a mild flulike illness. The recommendation this year is for children 2 to 8, that would be the preferred children because childrens immune systems are different. We feel that provokes a better response. But we can still do injections with them if the nasal is not available. For adults, anyone over 50 should have only the not live virus, the shot. The majority of adults choose the shot. Good advise.
