say a tree fell on a moving car killing two children inside. the car was on a highway in conemaugh township. police say the investigation showed the tree was rotted at the base. it fell striking the back of the car, a man driving the vehicle, a pregnant woman and two other children were hurt in the accident. their conditions haven't been released. from our trenton bureau, new jersey governor chris christie will sign a bill to help control property taxes. now, the measure says arbitrators can award police and fire unions an annual raise of no more than 2%. the bill revised a law that expired back in april. also happening today, the first of two school meetings on a mascot controversy. they will discuss refusal of editors to put the mascot, redskins, in the school newspaper. they say the name is offensive. they ignored a directive to use the name in the edition. a similar battle playing out over the nickname of the nfl team in washington. a federal panel ruled last week the name redskins is disparaging to native americans and canceled its trademark. the ruling, though, does not force the team to change their names or change their logo. if you live in new jersey, officials want to you take part in the state's anniversary celebration. today marks the 350th anniversary of new jersey. a land grant back in 1664 started what would become the garden state. officials want residents, schools and religious organizations to ring bells for a full minute at noon to help celebrate the organization. then they want you to take photos of the celebration and post them on the 350th facebook page. mayhem in miami, multiple shootings outside an apartment complex. at least two shootings. what sparked the deadly violence. later the bizarre behavior, dangerous action one woman took that now have her banned from the zoo. plenty of sunshine today. two people are dead and ten others injured following an early morning shooting in miami. shots fired around 2:30 at an intersection in miami's liberty city neighborhood. twenty-year-old man and a teenager girl were killed here. police say a 17-year-old girl was among those critically injured. so far no one has been arrested. happening now in washington, d.c., the house oversight committee is again hearing testimony about lost irs e-mails that could shed light on the targeting of political groups. former irs official jennifer o'connor at some point is scheduled to testify today. she now works in the white house counsel's office. yesterday the head of the irs said his agency did not obstruct the congressional investigation. irs commissioner dismissed accusations that a hearing the committee. lawmakers want to know why several e-mails are gone and can't be retrieved. also today national transportation board releasing a report on deadly crash in san francisco. the group met to determine what went wrong, who is to blame, and how to prevent similar accidents. experts say a primary cause is expected to be the flight crew's overreliance on an automated throttle control. they suggest the plane was flying too low and too slow when it struck a seawall at san francisco airport in july. three people killed and 200 others were injured. with summer weather upon us, public safety officials warning about the dangers of leaving children in cars. nbc 10 jesse aguirre. >> reporter: we used a new car and crayons to show you how quickly in a matter of minutes temperatures outside can reach triple digits on the inside. >> it does not take long for temperatures inside the car to reach deadly level. >> reporter: under late morning sun and 80 plus degree temperatures we put two children crayons inside this nbc 10 car. within minutes it takes effect. the crayons wind up melting in 20 minutes. >> if it's hotter than that, you have shades on the window, it's still too hot to leave them in the car. even if it's not hot out at all, it's not a safe thing to do. >> so far this year there have been 13 deaths due to kids left in vehicles in extremely hot conditions. the latest, last week in georgia. >> these kinds of deaths shouldn't be happening. >> reporter: there are a couple of tricks you can use to remind yourself of the precious passenger in the back so you don't forget. including putting your briefcase, your purse, even your cell phone in the back with your child. in degrees. the wind is south at 11 miles an hour. relative humidity is still pretty low. this is the last day i'm going to be able to say that this week. it's 64 in mount pocono. it's getting close to 80 degrees elsewhere as you can see across the area, except right at the shore. jersey beaches with that south wind keeping the temperatures down a little bit. but the ocean temperature is up to 73. so it's not that cool. you can see the wind direction is out of the south throughout the area, 6 to 12 miles an hour or so. it's a little breezier than yesterday. we had a couple of showers go through the poconos in the past couple of hours, but the rest of the area is nice and sunny. the showers generally well back to the west, pretty much where they were yesterday, not making a whole lot of progress. so we're not going to be expecting anything during the afternoon or into the night tonight. but the clouds are going to be increasing. not so much higher up, but the low level clouds from that southerly winds are going to keep increasing the humidity until it's cloudy. then tomorrow showers build up. a few showers around before noon. the bulk of it comes later in the day and especially at night could get some locally heavy rain before we start drying out. thursday is a little more of a question mark as to whether we see the showers or not. the ocean is 73, so the south wind, even with the south wind, you see temperatures holding in the 70s. afternoon and nighttime storms on wednesday and perhaps into thursday as well. in the poconos, we see warm conditions now. the showers are gone. 79 for the high today. showers and thunderstorms tomorrow. just a chance that sun will linger into thursday. so for the rest of the day, you can see the flags blowing and the warmer air coming in. highs in the mid to upper 70s. we had 83 yesterday, will be warmer today, but the humidity is still not going to be that high. tomorrow showers and thunderstorms are a pretty good bet. see some showers in the morning. the heaviest of it will come later in the day and especially at night. it may last into thursday, although thursday may not be quite as wet as wednesday. then we dry out a little bit as we head into the weekend. we can't guarantee dry weather for friday and saturday but it sure looks like it's going to heat up starting on sunday. >> we've been warned. thanks, glen. too adults. the fda is updating nutrition labels but none of the changes address this issue of overeating fortified nutrients. doctors may now start checking on how much you're reading to your infant when you go in for a checkup. that's because the american academy of pediatrics want to recommend parents read to children every day starting with birth. it can help kids with vocabulary and communication skills. and online program may give partners incentive to make teenagers better drivers. the program called teen driving man offers $100 to parents who practice driving with teens before they get
