new clues about the college student's disappearance. there's new video overnight as tensions continue. a protest is planned for our area tonight. we'll explain why it will impact drivers. a big day at lincoln financial field where the birds will take on the seahawks. it will be cold and windy in the stands. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary conners. it's just after seven o'clock on this sunday. michelle grossman is tracking the game day forecast for us. better than yesterday, because the rain has moved out, but it's still going to feel a little raw out there. >> oh, yeah. yesterday we had the rain. it was mild, though. today we're bringing the sunshine back, but it's going to be cold and windy, so definitely feeling raw by the afternoon. here's a live look outside. we've got some cloud cover out there in spots, but at least the rain is gone. that was a live look at cape may. right now we're seeing temperatures colder than this time yesterday. below freezing in mount pocono. 23 in allentown. at the freezing mark in reading and lancaster. that's because the skies are starting to clear from west to east. 37 in philadelphia. 38 in atlantic city. you factor in the northerly winds, it feels colder than it actually is. it feels like the 20s in most spots and feels like just 11 in mount pocono. you get the kids ready, maybe you have errands, you want to dress them for the 20s. the poconos, you want to dress them for 11 degrees. up to 40 in mount pocono. 24-mile-per-hour wind gusts in wildwood. the wind will stay with us all day long as well as cold temperatures, but we will have sun sunshine. by noon, looking at 44 degrees. we'll talk more about today's forecast and look ahead toward that rain and wind on tuesday. that's all straight ahead. happening right now, the norris town high speed line is shut down because a tree fell on the tracks here. here is a live look at crews who had been working to remove that tree. this is near the parkview station. if our photographer can pan over, you can see they already did push that tree off to the side of the tracks. shuttle bus service is available for riders between ridertown and 69th street. we will keep you posted. also new from overnight, investigators are looking into what caused a house fire in philadelphia. nbc 10 was on north lindenwood street in the haddington section of the city where the flames broke out around 10:30 last night. 11 people made it out safely. the american red cross is helping those people this morning. after today's eagles game, protesters planned to block broad and pattison streets in south philadelphia. they'll be holding a solidarity die-in, similar to the ones you see right here. the demonstrators are planning to lie down as a way to express their frustration over the grand jury decisions not to indict police officers in the deaths of eric garner in new york and michael brown in ferguson, missouri. across the country, two police officers were hurt. officials say demonstrators flew things at the police in berkley last night. the two officers suffered minor injuries. police used tear gas and smoke bombs to clear the crowd. they were there because they were angered by those grand jury decisions. officials say the demonstrators also smashed windows and looted businesses. despite the damage, there are no reports of any arrests. things were a little bit more peaceful in other cities across the country yesterday. thousands took to the streets from new york to marietta, georgia, for a fourth straight day. they're calling attention to what they say is excessive use of force by police. as i mentioned, there will be protesters at the sports complex in south philly today. they won't be the only ones targeting the eagles crowd to spread their message. the effort to find missing college student shane victorimoy will head to the link. montgomery was last seen at a manayunk bar 11 days ago. his family and friends say they're not giving up their search. a reward for information is now up to $50,000. in are fliers and ribbons posted all over town. the family says volunteers will be passing out the leaflets with shane's information at the link as early as 11:00 this morning. a warning now on this next story, you may find it disturbing. authorities tell us a lehigh valley man shot and killed his stepdaughter jessica padgett because of an alleged desire to have sex with her corpse. police arrested gregory graph on charges of homicide and abuse of a corpse. he's being held without bail. authorities say grandfather confessed to killing jessica padgett. she was 33 years old. padgett was last seen leaving her daycare job in north hampton last month. police found her car at a dollar general store about a mile away. authorities charged her stepfather after investigators say they found padgett's body buried on his property in north hampton county. now to some news in delaware. the city of wilmington has tied its all-time record for homicides after another deadly shooting friday night. the killing was the 27th in wilmington this year. that ties the record set in 2010. police say they found two men shot on west 6th street and a third victim nearby. one of them who's been identified at 23-year-old jean malone died at the hospital. this morning, investigators in philadelphia are trying to identify a man whose body was found in north philly. a neighbor discovered the man on the 2400 block of north sidenhan street around 8:30. the man had been shot and stabbed. authorities believe he may have been dumped at that location. they're now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. this weekend in burlington county, friends and family are remembering the three children murdered by their mother. funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in tabernacle. investigators say janine la page shot 8-year-old nadia, 11-year-old alexander, and 14-year-old nicolas harriman inside their house last month. la page then shot herself. two of the children died at the scene and la page and alexander died later at the hospital. in atlantic city, a veteran firefighter is now suspended without pay after police say that he showed a teenage girl lewd pictures of himself. the suspect has been a fire captain since 2008 and a member of that fire department for more than 20 years. police in los angeles may need hugh hefner's help to invest get a woman's claim that she was sexually assaulted by bill cosby at the playboy mansion. judith hughes is suing cosby for the alleged attack in 1974. law enforcement forces tell tmz they need to determine if they were even at the mansion. cosby says she is a liar who tried to sell her story to the tabloids ten years ago. cosby, by the way, has never been charged with a crime. today, ceremonies are planned all across the country and here in our area to mark a fateful day in the history of the united states. people will gather aboard the battleship new jersey to remember pearl harbor day. a ceremony like this one will begin at 8:00. a memorial wreath will be cast into the delaware river and "taps" will be played. today, by the way, is the 73rd anniversary of the attack on pearl harbor. it was on this day in 1941 that japanese war planes attacked the home port of the u.s. pacific fleet. about 2,400 americans were killed and another 1,200 were wounded. it was a day that, as president franklin roosevelt put it, would live in infamy. because of the attack, the united states entered world war ii. thousands are expected to gather at pearl harbor today to commemorate the anniversary. next, a deadly carbon monoxide leak inside a recording studio. this morning, investigators are trying to find out what caused it. and what do you do american hostage luke somers during a failed u.s. raid in yemen. u.s. officials say somers and a south african hostage were killed by al qaeda militants. al qaeda kidnapped somers last year. the officials say more than three dozen special forces members, including navy seals, took part in yesterday's raid that was ordered by president obama. >> they landed about two miles away from the objective and then infiltrated to try to keep the element a surprise. but once the firefight started, it would appear that al qaeda then shot the two hostages. >> i don't think the government had an option. i think president obama did the right thing. he went in and tried to save this poor fellow's life. >> somers was a photo journalist who was born in britain, but went to college in wisconsin. u.s. officials say some al qaeda militants died in the raid, but no u.s. service members were injured. outgoing defense secretary chuck hagel says the u.s. will keep a larger force in afghanistan in early 2015 than initially planned. hagel made the announcement during a surprise visit to kabul yesterday. there, he met with the afghan president and u.s. military commanders. hagel says the u.s. force will top 10,000 troops. that's about a thousand more than first announced. students in mexico city are protesting the abduction of 43 trainee teachers, and now one of their deaths has been confirmed. you're looking at the latest demonstration. this was yesterday. authorities have identified the charred remains of one of the student teachers kidnapped in september. officials believe that the abducted trainees were handed over to a drug gang by corrupt police. back in the u.s., in north jersey, the prosecutor's office is investigating the cause of a carbon monoxide leak that killed two people inside of a recording studio and sickened 12 others. police were called to the building yesterday afternoon and found the two people dead on the second floor. authorities say the other victims were confused and choke as they tried to leave the building. they were treated at area hospitals. police in florida now have a man in custody whom they say killed his wife, her friend and their pastor. officers arrested andy avalos yesterday at a mobile home park on the gulf coast. he's charged with murder. that area is about a mile away from the church where the pastor was found shot to death on thursday. the bodies of the suspect's wife and the neighbor were found in the avalos's home. take a look at this video. this is new video of a coast guard crew air lifting a sick passenger off of a cruise ship. it was just off the north californian coast. a woman got an unexpected house guest last night. this deer burst through her front door. it darted through and wept into the bathroom. the woman was able to lock it inside the bathroom until police arrived, and as police put it, there was a brief standoff with the deer but officers were able to escort the animal from the home and they released it back into the wild. next, we have our first look at the damage left behind after a typhoon slammed into the philippines. next, why officials say it could have been worse. the yummy! we have some new information this morning on the typhoon that hit the philippines this weekend. we have now learned of two confirmed deaths from typhoon hagupit. the storm, as you see, caused evacuations, toppled trees and knocked out power. the storm also destroyed some buildings and flooded streets, but it didn't cause nearly as much devastation as last year's deadly typhoon, typhoon haiyan. officials say this typhoon is now weakening and moving away from the philippines. this is what nearly two feet of fresh snow looks like. this video comes to us from the california side of lake tahoe. ski resorts there are making the most of this new powder. some of the mountain resorts out there are opening for the first time this season. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. locally, no going to keep the winds in place all day long. by 6:00, winds gusting at 33 miles per hour. up to 38 in atlantic city. breezy tonight. breezy on monday before that wind really comes back in a big way on tuesday. so finally dry. we're looking good on radar. we tracked rain all day yesterday. we're going to keep it dry, bring the sunshine back. you don't see the clouds showing up on satellite there. we see more clouds on monday. so we're going to see the clouds increasing throughout the day. a cloudy night on monday night. even some rain coming in after midnight. but it's really tuesday where we see that heavy rain come in. possibly some heavy wet snow in the poconos. it all wraps up on wednesday, it's out of here. and by thursday, we're going to dry it out. monday, the clouds on the increase just a high of 47. was it an attack out of retaliation? next, we have new information about the hackers who went after sony pictures. north korea is denying that it was behind a cyber attack on sony pictures. many have speculated that north korean spies did it in retaliation for an upcoming comedy about an assassination plot against leader kim jong un. the fbi is looking into the hack last week that disrupted sony's computer system. a report says that leak on to the internet involved thousands of social security numbers, including those of actors like sylvester stallone and rebel wilson. they also released several sony pictures online, some not released in theaters. the u.s. is among seven countries that now have ktrade restrictions on canadian poultry because of the bird flu. more than 130,000 turf keys and chickens will be euthanized. they say no people have gotten sick yet. now to a recall. remmington is recalling millions of rifles. remmington agreed to replace the trigger on its popular model 700 rifles. they were made between may 2006 and april of this year. many gun owners claimed that the rifles would fire without pulling the trigger. the time right now is 7:26. we near the parkview station. nbc 10 was there as crews removed that tree. the high speed line has resumed normal operations. philadelphia fire crews responded to a high-rise fire that broke out in 20th and market streets. crews had the flames under control by 6:00. authorities tell us nobody was hurt and no one had to be evacuated from the building. also new from overnight, the american red cross is a teenage comrade today. britney ford died friday after she was hit by a car while walking in the road. she was just 17 years old. britney volunteered with the bowers fire company in kent county. a memorial presessiocession is begin at about 7:00 this morning. also, authorities are offering a $10,000 reward to find the arsonist wanted in three church fires. the flames you see here getted the healing hands christian church in felton last week. the other two church fires happened within hours of this one in felton. anybody with information can call the atf or delaware state police. a chester county community has pulled together to rise from the ashes, so to speak, this weekend, after vandals targeted a holiday tradition. every year, phoenixville holds a fire bird festival at friendship field. a giant wooden phoenix statue is burned as part of the ceremony, but yesterday morning, the morning of the big celebration, arsonists got to it first and burned that phoenix to ash. but neighbors did not lotto that ruin the day. they brought palettes of wood and built a brand-new statue in just a few hours. >> we all come together, things happen, we all get together, we make it work. nobody can burn us down. >> filled with the overwhelming, wholeheartedness and joy of what our community is all about. >> the day continued without a hitch. around sun down, the organizers set the phoenix ablaze. police tell nbc 10 that they do have some leads and that finding those responsible is a big priority for the department. this morning, we now know the identity of a man killed in a hit-and-run in montgomery county. we first told you about this yesterday morning. police say that two vehicles struck the victim friday night in rambo street on bridgeport. neither driver stopped. tom daley was struck bay black ford explorer similar to this one. they say moments later, he was also hit by a green cadillac or lincoln suv. daley died at the hospital. police are now looking for surveillance video from the scene. we have an alert now for drivers in philadelphia this morning. the philadelphia water department has shut down part of montgomery drive in fair mount park to repair a broken water main. both directions are closed between martin luther king drive and the schuylkill expressway. the closure is from now until about 4:00 this afternoon. some good news for holiday shoppers. if you're going to be in philadelphia today, some of the metered parking is for free. the philadelphia parking authority is relaxing kiosk enforcement because of technical problems with credit card payments. it's only for today, and only at the kiosks. all safety violations and single space meters will be enforced because they're not affected by the credit card issue. anybody who got a ticket on friday or saturday because of the malfunction should contact customer service. it's being called the "wild" effect. we'll take a look at the movement sparked by the best-selling novel and saturdays. the newly-released movie "wild" tells the story of one woman's journey to find herself while hiking the pacific crest trail. the film is based on the best-selling novel that's now inspiring hundreds to go the distance. nbc's kristen dahlgren reports. >> reporter: on the pacific crest trail, jessica reynolds is looking for more than a beautiful view. >> it makes your own personal and i kind of was in that same point in my life. >> reporter: call it the wild effect. women tracing the footsteps of the author, along the 2,600-mile route from the mexican border to canada. a journey she began weighed down bay 40-pound pack and the pain of divorce, heroin addiction and losing her mother. >> the essential story in "wild" is about journey. it's about how it is that we bear the unbearable. >> reporter: for linda blaney -- >> after reading what she went through, i knew that anybody could do the trail. >> reporter: hiking the trail brought the answers she was looking for. >> i found out that i'm the one person that makes myself happy. >> reporter: at pit stops along the trail, they are already seeing the "wild" effect. >> last year we probably hat 700 hikers here. >> reporter: a number that could double once the movie is out. we're about 400 miles from the beginning of the trail. mexico is back that way. canada, another 2,200 miles in this direction. over what can be diverse and potentially dangerous terrain. there are long stretches without water. steep mountains. wildlife. >> we are really stressing that people be prepared in order to cut down on the possibility of a rescue. >> reporter: but joey miller, who runs a hiking club, says it's the challenges along the way that make these moments so exhilarating. >> i think she's giving people the courage to put it on the list. to check it off the bucket list finally. there's something to be said for living. >> reporter: for jessica reynolds, it comes down to the words her mom wrote inside her love letter proved to be worth a lot of money because it was addressed to marilyn monroe. an auction house in california sold the letter for more than $78,000 yesterday. it was written by baseball great joe dimaggio after monroe announced that she was divorcing him. there's no word on who bought the letter or exactly what was in it. it was among 300 items dubbed marilyn monroe's lost archives on the fight for justice within our borders and the battle for citizenship across our borders. moderator of "meet the press" chuck todd joins us now for a preview. good morning, chuck. >> good morning, rosemary. >> protests continued this weekend following the grand jury decision not to indict the police officers who killed eric garner and michael brown. in addition to race relations, the theme of these protests seems to be that people just don't trust the police. can that trust ever be restored? >> well, that's what's going to have to be figured out here. i mean, we're going to have some new polling this morning and you're going to see the stark racial divide when it comes to feelings toward the law enforcement community and whether it does treat folks fairly or not. whites believe one thing, african-americans another. this trust gap i think is something that all of these folks need to tackle. by the way, when it comes to the philadelphia area, i'm going to have charles ramsey on the show as well as your mayor michael nutter as part of my panel of police chiefs, mayors, district attorneys to tackle what reforms need to be made to begin to restore trust with african-americans. we've heard about cameras on cops. that's one. but i think the stickier issue has to do with the relationship between district attorneys and police officers. can district attorneys who need the police cooperation in so many of their cases, can they fairly also look into and investigate and perhaps prosecute an actual police officer? and i think that's where there is some question about how that works. >> chuck, this morning, you're also going to be talking immigration. you'll sit down with texas governor elect greg abbott. he's the leading force behind the lawsuit against president obama and his immigration action. is this lawsuit simply a political statement? is it posturing, or does it impact any future political negotiations? >> well, i think that's the question here. is it nothing more than a political stunt? will a federal court say these states have standing? the state of texas, by the way, has filed an emergency injunction. they're trying to halt the pl s president's order immediately, just temporarily. so we're going to get an idea before the end of the year about exactly how much standing and how serious this lawsuit is. and then we'll find really not going to be very warm. it's going to be very windy. the eagles will take on the seahawks here at 4:25. it's a winter wonder land this weekend in cape may county. there were plenty of families there, including a train ride around cape may's north pole and a christmas carousel. santa and mrs. claus were also there. hundreds of people pitched in to make sure that kids in our area will have a happy holiday. the delaware valley legacy fund held its eighth annual toy drive. the event raises money to support organizations serving the lgbtq community, while providing toys to local kids. this year the donated toys will go to patients at the children's hospital of philadelphia and children served by action aids. today it's the rededication of what's been dubbed the charlie brown christmas tree. rain pushed the festivities to tonight. the scrawny tree will be decorated with one single red ornament, just like the one in the peanuts christmas classic. some folks had been complaining when the tree first went up and was topped with a pretzel. they make a lot of pretzels in but county, but still they thought it wasn't enough. they also put up a new fuller tree across town. the charlie brown tree rededication at fifth and penn will begin tonight at 6:00. you love that story. >> i love it. i feel so bad for that tree, but i kind of love it. >> it's gotten a lot of national attention. >> i feel like we should do a live shot right near that red ornament. >> that may be happening later today. >> temperatures in the 40s and very windy. then we'll be watching that
