We can tell you at least three buildings have been evacuated because of heavy black smoke in the area. They include misconduct tavern a bar here at 15th and locust. As well as two other buildings. Let me zoom in and show you what the crews mostly philadelphia firefighters as well as electric crews from peco are trying to figure out. They had a manhole situation out here just about 5 00. Let me show you some video sent in by a witness via our nbc 10 news app. Heavy black smoke seeping out of that manhole filling the street. Crews here tell us that co 2, Carbon Monoxide, was tested in this area. Thats why they had to evacuate the buildings. According to crews, they think melting snow from the warm day seeped into the manhole, got into some of the wires and sparked them started fire. Witnesses tell me they saw heavy black smoke as well as flames shooting out of manhole. No reports of injuries or anything like that. The crews are still out here about an hour later trying to figure out what happened making sure there is no more Carbon Monoxide in the area. The three buildings are still evacuated. 15th and locust still shut down as peco crews and firefighters continue to work the scene. We will bring you an update later tonight. We are going to see refreezing as we head into the rest of tonight. Also a wind chill vooirds for parts of the poconos and a bitter cold monday for the entire area. Officials evacuated homes in south jesse this even after a gas main break near rig road and flanders road in burlington new jersey. We are told gas crews and burlington fire are on the scene. An eightinch main broke around 9 00 this morning near the intersection of fay yet street and wads worth avenue. Crews plan to restore by later tonight. Weve seen a lot of melting like this today. Refreezing isnt the only concern. Officials have been watching a building in West Philadelphia very closely. It has been encased in ice nearly a week now. And after almost a week you can now tell that that is a traffic light. And beyond it you can actually read the Medical Center sign on the building. But as a lot of this ice falls away, neighbors are concerned that some of the building may go along with it. The late day sun and temperatures in the low 40s were breaking off pieces of the ice palace. But neighbors of the frozen fire scene at 52nd and locust streets in West Philadelphia worry the ice may be the only Thing Holding up the burned out medical building. People getting hurt. Reporter the fire was six days ago and the shell has sat encased in ice while its claimed the owner is trying to find a Demolition Company to tear it down. Residents dont feel the fenced in collapse zone is big enough to protect the public. I worry that even if this falls its going to go over to the other side of the street.
