The resort, according to the mayor, what he just told me has to cut at least 15 million from next years budget and the looming cutbacks are unavoidable. We are looking at drastic measures here. Today all City Employees rece e received a letter saying it is not an understatement that severe, Financial Issues are affecting the city. The letter warned that the resort plans to file a layoff and demotion plan with the state for many City Employees on or around october 1st. Do you know how many layoffs we could be talking about . Reporter but the mayor tells me the the city needs to have 250 to 300 fewer employees by the the middle of next year. He hopes many of the cuts will come through attrition rather than pink slips. The resorts financial crisis comes in a year when theyve seen four casinos close and a fifth could be shut down in september. They cost the city about half of its tax base. As a result, local Property Owners are being hit with a 29 tax increase. We have stretched the taxpayers as far as we can stretch them. The city also plans to reopen all Union Contracts expiring at the end of the year, potentially leading to pay and benefit cuts aimed at saving the city money.
