plenty of sunshine, so if you just look outside, you might think it's as warm as it was yesterday, but we have seen a lot of cool air come in, so as we approach the rest of your morning, we'll stay in the 50s. 53 degrees, lots of sunshine, humidity is at 47%. breezy conditions with winds at 14 miles per hour. our average for this time of year, 72. today, 61. not to worry, we recover nicely monday at 72 degrees. what's in store for the rest of your workweek? i'll answer that question in my full forecast. a morning in delaware, a barn in kent county is destroyed after a predawn fire, and the fire engine on the way to the scene was in an accident. this happened in leipsic, just north of dover. matt delucia spoke with one of the firefighters who was on that truck. >> reporter: this is what firefighters in leipsic, kent county were headed to, a large barn fire. but before one of the crews could get there, there was probably. >> i got a truck flipped on east state road! >> the left side of the truck got off, went to the shoulder and we wound up going down into the ditch. >> reporter: leipsic volunteer fire chief mike greco was around that truck at around 2:30 this morning. they were trying to get around a tanker on this two-lane road just a few hundred feet from the fire. you can see the fire trucks there and where the truck wound up, about three feet below the road. >> as soon as the tanker went past us, he got out to see if we were all right. weapon he got up, he told the officer in charge at the scene that everybody was all right. >> the driver was take on the the hospital for observation but was released and returned to fight this fire. we watched as one crew focused on the barn and another tried to get this engine on to solid ground. several towns responded, but the barn was destroyed. it had equipment inside and so did the engine. the truck was towed back to the fire house with the chief spending his sunday calling the insurance company. >> the truck's replaceable. the firemen aren't. and the firemen were okay. so we're fine from that point. >> in leipsic, kent county, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. new from overnight, philadelphia police are investigating a triple shooting in cobb's creek. the victims were taken to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania. all three in critical condition. philadelphia police are also investigating a double shooting in kensington. two men were shot near the intersection of kensington avenue and sedgely just after midnight. both are hospitalized. they are stable. police tell us they found a gun at the scene that was registered to one of the victims. so far, no arrests. happening today, a protest by philadelphia police at the site of the murder of officer daniel faulkner. the demonstration will be in response to a college speech being given today by the officer's convicted killer mumia abu-jamal. a recorded speech by abu-jamal will be played today for 20 students at goddard college in vermont. abu-jamal received a bachelor's degree from that school in 1996 while behind bars. abu-jamal is serving life in prison for killing officer faulkner in 1991. faulkner's wife says they made the wrong choice. >> sometime in their future of their life, they are going to come across either a loved one, or maybe a friend that will lose their life brutally, a and when they do, they can think of me. >> goddard college says they do not condone the violence of which abu-jamal was convicted, but does encourage students to take on controversial subjects. in mercer county, the first death related to enterovirus d68 in our area has health and school officials taking safety precautions. gold and blue ribbons line eli waller's neighborhood in hamilton township. friday night, authorities confirmed it was enterovirus d68 that took the life of the 4-year-old boy who attended preschool at yardville elementary. >> the virus attacks very rapidly and very suddenly. the child was asymptomatic and fine. the next morning, he had passed. >> the school district says it has added extra staff to disinfect the school, and another meeting on this issue is set for tonight at steinert high school. happening today, the freelance nbc news contractor who contracted ebola will be flown to nebraska for treatment. meanwhile, thomas duncan has gotten worse. he's now in critical condition. the head of the centers for disease control and prevention says about 50 people who had contact with duncan have been located and tested. so far, though, no one is showing symptoms. >> so we are confident that none of those with definite contact had any symptoms related to ebola. none of them had fever. we'll be watching that very closely. >> meantime, bed sheets, towels and mattresses have been destroyed. the ebola risk will be the discussion on "meet the press." moderator chuck todd and his guests will talk about how the u.s. is handling the response, plus an update on that freelance nbc cameraman who will be on his way to the u.s. today. that's on "meet the press" right here at 10:30 on nbc 10. tonight, family, friends, and members of law enforcement will remember a pennsylvania state trooper who was killed at a montgomery county shooting range. a light celebration for david k-fed ra will be held at 6:00 this evening.endra will be helds evening. a funeral mass for trooper kendra is at morell avenue and chesterfield road also in northeast philadelphia. officials say kendra was accidentally shot by another trooper tuesday. they say it happened during a training exercise. kendra was 26 years old. he had been a member of the pennsylvania state police since june of 2012. he was a graduate of temple university and was engaged to be married. it is now day 23 in the search for suspected trooper killer eric frein. new details are emerging about text messages he was sending the day of the attack. the "times tribune" of scranton reports a friend received a text from frein less than five hours before he allegedly opened fire outside a pennsylvania state police barracks in pike county on september 12th saying all is good. frein also said he was heading back to delaware. according to police, he lied to relatives and others about working in delaware so he could prepare for the ambush. one trooper was killed and a second wounded in that attack. in the city of chester, the family of a man killed in a fire bombing wants answers, especially since he was targeted twice before. anthony gorman died yesterday morning in the fire at his home on baldwin street in chester. fire investigators are calling it suspicious. officials tell nbc 10 gorman's home was fire bombed twice previously. police told us they're investigating the fire bombing involving an outlaw motorcycle gang. he has been disabled since an accident in 2009. today the eagles will try to regain their winning form when they host the st. louis rams. you are taking a live look now at lincoln financial field. a sold out crowd is expected for the 1:00 game. the 3-1 birds are coming off their first loss of the season at san francisco. the eagles are a 6.5-favorite to beat the rams this afternoon. guy. >> he had a heart of gold. just one awesome guy. a love him to death with all my heart. and he will be sadly missed. >> the british native was a non-muslim who left behind a wife and two teenagers to help muslim friends drive aid convoys to the victims of syria's civil war. henning was held for nine months by isis before he was beheaded. the parents of a u.s. aide worker threatened with beheading by isis militants are pleasing for their son's release. >> most of all, know that we love you. and our hearts ache for you to be granted your freedom so we can hug you again and set you free to continue the life you have chosen, the life of service to those in greatest need. >> peter was taken hostage in october of last year in syria where he was providing aid for refugees. his parents say he converted to islam while in captivity and his faith has provided him comfort. meantime, the bat continues between kurdish fighters and isis militants over control of a syrian town. plumes of smoke could be seen rising from kobane today, the main kurdish armed group is calling on others in the region to help stop isis from tightening its grip. the fighting has driven 180,000 kurds across the border into turkey. a more creative and humble approach. that's what pope francis is calling on catholics to take when it comes to family issues. the pontiff delivered that message during mass this morning at the vatican. the service opened a two-week meeting of cardinals and bishops from around the world. the gathering will focus on controversial issues such as bans on contraception and holy communion for divorced people who remarry. many of the cardinals and bishops are aware that many catholics defy church teachings on family matters. in virginia, the parents of a missing college sophomore are asking whoever is responsible for her disappearance to help them find her. hannah graham vanished on september 13th. she was attending the university of virginia in charlottesville. a man was arrested and charged with her abduction, and police say there is evidence linking the suspect to the death of a virginia tech student in 2009. an update now on a fire at the flight 93 memorial in shanksville, somerset county. the american flag that flew above the u.s. capitol on september 11th was destroyed as well as some passengers and crews' items that were housed there. the headquarters building was destroyed, but the museum that's under construction was not damaged. there is still no word on a cause of that fire. the memorial remains open for visitors. happening today in connecticut, a playground will be dedicated in memory of the principal who died in the sandy hook school massacre. dawn hochsprung was killed while protecting her students and staff. her grandchildren and daughters helped build the new playground in the town of watertown. this is the last of 26 playgrounds dedicated to the victims of that mass shooting. a pennsylvania judge is refusing to throw out a lawsuit involving the $60 million fine against penn state university in the jerry sandusky case. penn state accepted the penalty as part of a deal with the ncaa. state treasurer rob mccord and a state senator sued to have the money used to fight child abuse in pennsylvania. the ncaa planned to distribute the money nationwide. the judge's ruling could set up a trial early next year. i've been kayaking for ten years and i kayak at least twice a week probably. nothing like this ever. >> a kayaker shares his amazing story after a shark attack. next, how he made a after two shark attacks in two days. on thursday, a surfer was attacked bay great white shark. he suffers non-life threatening injuries. then on friday afternoon, a kayaker who was out fishing with friends says an 18 to 20-foot shark came out of the water, pushed his kayak and launched him into the air. ryan howell quickly jumped on to his friend's kayak. >> i was like, get me out of this water. we were right next to the other guys, so i pretty much jumped on their kayak and out of the water. like get on the back of the kayak hugging the guy. >> howell's advice for others, make sure you bring a radio with you in case you need to call for help. in costa rica, biologists say the survival of certain sea turtles could be in danger. the reason, climate change. the scientists say record heat and drought in august caused turtle eggs buried on beaches to not fully develop. as many as 600 sea turtles lay their eggs every year along the pacific coast of costa rica. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist brittney shipp. >> good morning. today's not the day to leave the house without a jacket. you'll definitely need it into your late morning hours, even into the early afternoon, where temperatures will stay in the 50s. we will push into the low 60s. it's still going to be a chilly sunday. we'll also see a mild start to your workweek for temperatures pushing back into the 70s. right now, we are seeing tailgaters out there. hopefully they brought their jackets as well, because temperatures today cooler than we're used to. just yesterday we were in the 70s. as we push into the rest of today, we are going to stay in the low 70s. so for philadelphia, we're at 53 degrees. plenty of sunshine for us. if you look outside, you probably think it's warm, but actually our temperatures are well below average. about 16 degrees cooler right now than this time yesterday. and across the region, we're at 48 degrees in reading for philadelphia. in the low 50s, same thing in atlantic city, with plenty of sunshine if you're closer to the shore. a closer look at the rest of our area where we were at 32 degrees in the poconos. we've warmed about ten degrees in the last five hours or so. 54 in wilmington. a closer look at our live camera network. it shows that we're seeing plenty of sunshine, just a few clouds throughout the center city skyline, and as we push into the rest of today, expect plenty of sunshine. this is going to be a great day for football. you just need to bring a light jacket with you. cool air is making its return. it's stretching all the way down into parts of the carolinas, but it will continue to retreat as we head into the rest of today. we'll see high pressure rebuilding over the southeast. that's going to push mild air over philadelphia as we head into your overnight hours and into tomorrow. so you won't notice the difference until we push into your monday. today, on the other hand, you will feel those cooler conditions by 2:00. 60 degrees in philadelphia. 57 in allentown. 53 degrees in the poconos. and 56 degrees in atlantic city. even as we head into your evening hours, we are still going to see those temperatures staying well below the average, which is 72 degrees for this time of year. as we head into the next few days here, back to the 70s for us on monday. take a look at tuesday, mid 70s with a chance of showers. tuesday, friday, saturday, another chance of showers. >> all right, britney. the simon gratz high school football team notched a win this weekend, but what happened after a friday night game one year ago changed some players' lives forever. an exchange of words on the street led a promising player to wonder if he'd ever play football again. here's his story. >> reporter: 6'4", 320-pound offensive lineman rayquan thomas is a standout on the simon gratz football team. a junior and captain, he has already been contacted by several colleges. >> he's a big-time football player, but he's a good person. he's going to be successful. >> reporter: his success hasn't come easy, though. he had to learn a new school and a new team after transferring to simon gratz before his sophomore year. >> you don't know exactly when to leave a blog or to stay. so once you build that chemistry, it's good. >> reporter: it only took a few games to build that chemistry, and on october 4th of 2013, it all clicked on the football field. >> my brother told me all the time that it was one of the best games. we beat dobbins 38-6. it was fun. we dominated. after the game, some of the guys left the stadium, they wanted to have a little postgame celebration at the local mcdonald's, only they didn't make it that far. this is as far as they got that night. >> two teenagers are shot in hunting park. right as hundreds of students and fans are leaving a nearby football game. >> i heard the shots and everybody just started running. >> there were six shots and they rushed him to the hospital. they didn't even wait for the balance. >> one bullet struck a teammate. >> i didn't even know i was shot. >> but five bullets entered his body that night in his calf, thigh, and back. >> it entered my left back but went through my right side, my pelvis. >> are you normally a fighter? >> i don't like to, not if i don't got to. >> he's a big guy. people tend not to want to get into a physical altercation with him. and he doesn't go out of people to mess with people. he's very quiet, very humble. >> after months on crutches and rehab, he started the season strong as ever. but he will never forget what happened year off. we'll take you there next. happening in about a half an hour from now in cape may county, about 1,500 walkers will hit the boardwalk in ocean city for the fourth annual hero walk. the event raises money to help prevent drunk driving. this year, the walkers will toss hats into the air as a symbolic pledge to be a designated driver, or use one whenever they drink. the walk starts at 11:00 at the civic center at sixth and the boardwalk. the largest air show in the country wraps up in san diego today. the show is expected to draw 250,000 people, despite a heat wave there. the main attractions include stunts by the navy's blue angels and a vietnam era helicopter. last year, the military cancelled the show because of federal budget cuts. no heat wave around here, though. >> no, not at all. in fact, it was a cold start to the morning, and as we head into the rest of the afternoon, temperatures will stay in the low 60s. most of the day in the 50s really. and we'll see a cold
