first alert until tuesday morning. feels like temperatures below zero with a live look in philadelphia from our kimmel center camera on broad street. the temperature in center city is 26 degrees. if you're heading out tonight, or tomorrow, you're really going to need to bundle up. in the lehigh valley, even colder. downtown allentown is 19 degrees and falling, heading south to delaware, where it's a few degrees warmer but still very cold. 26 degrees in wilmington and traffic moving but snow left over on the road. will freeze tonight leading to more dangerous travel conditions and some snow falling right now in parts of delaware and at the jersey shore. glenn schwartz is keeping his eye on the plunging temperatures. how low will they go tonight? >> teens in most of the area. single digits in other places and it's going to feel like it's near zero. and allentown, 18. walnut port is already down to 17. jersey shore got the most snow like atlantic city international, 25. already below frieeezing and no to freezing again until wednesday and maybe not until next sunday. it's 25 in avalon. 30 in cay may point. that's the warm spot in the area. and 26 at the philadelphia airport. how low it will go and then any more snow in the forecast coming up. >> thank you, glenn. a live look inside the lake. and tomorrow's game will be a frinld o frigid one. eagles take on the cowboys in the regular season and weather will no doubt be a factor and a live picture of the river rink at pen's landing where the finishing touches worked out for tomorrow's fireworks show. some are still enjoying the winter wonderland. drew smith is live on the ben franklin parkway where people are shivering as they take in the sights this weekend. >> reporter: there were a lot of people out here tonight. since the sun has gone down, most people have gone. but the mummers parade, it's going to be slippery and cold out there. here to celebrate new year's eve and celebrate with the fireworks tomorrow and in the snow with hats, hoods, scarves and gloves but some visitors aren't complaining. >> it's like to 20-degrees warmer down here. this is like spring. >> reporter: nobody should be complaining? >> nobody should be complaining. >> caller: . >> reporter: he's gladder the leaders voted 3-2 to hold the parade on new year's day even though the temperatures won't escape the teens. outdoor practice cancelled today but the fancy brigade rehearsed indoors. extra precautions with buses this year. >> we're just going to drink hot chocolate and dress in layers. the center through january 2nd. live at the ben franklin parkway. >> out at the roads now. at the gentlemrard point bridge then from the camera on top of the presidential city apartments and everything looking good here too but this isn't far from where a massive pile-up caused major issues this morning. here's a look at that crash caused by a mix of morning snow and slippery roads. it caused the traffic nightmare for drivers in the area. this multi-car pile-up on the express way one of many crashes across the region this morning. luckily, no major injuries. a lot of cars were totalled. nbc10 nbc10's miguel martinez live where some of the cars ended up. >> reporter: that's right. it's been a busy day for the guys at this tow company. the big boss called in all hands on deck. one of the cars involved in those crashes? right here. you can see it's pretty beat up, but this isn't even the worst one we've seen today. no days off in the towing business, especially if there's snow and saturday snow catching most people like them. crashes along i-75 had some drivers waiting for hour! not moving? >> this is ridiculous. >> reporter: the crashes left around 10 people hurt but officials say none of the injuries were life-threatening. and 22 cars and then morning crashes and most of them not drivable and zit here. >> all hands on deck today because this is one of the days and guys know when the weather is bad, everybody has to come in. >> reporter: even though the snow stopped with the temperature dropping, he'll keep guys on stand by in case the roads get bad once again. >> just about everybody had an inch to perhaps 3 or even more. bethel township, new morgan. emmaus 2.2 and then allentown, one inch. places in the p.a. suburbs, a lot more. king of prussia, 3.4. westchester, 1.9 and doilstown, 1.8. philly got 3.1. fox chase 2.8. you keep going south in the city, there's less and lesser amounts. less than 1 inch officially at philly international. 1.1 and 0.7 and lower document atms amounts in delaware as well. way worse than what we've seen so far this season. rescue on ice. the challenge south jersey firefighters face to save a pet stranded on a frozen creek and we continue to track a first alert bitter cold right across from boat house row. how low will the temperatures go for the new year's eve? >> yeah, ted, it is actually going to be feeling colder. new year's eve and new year's day than it has at any time so far this month. you know how cold it's been at times this month. especially 11:00 tonight. 8:00 a.m. tuesday. the windchills go low as 20 below in the poconos and 15 below in lehigh valley and 5 to 10 below across the rest of the area. including philadelphia at the worst. today's highs were in the 20s. we had a little bit of sun this afternoon to try to melt some of that snow, but it's refreezing now already down to 16 already. 18 in allentown and 19 in redding. so everybody is already below freezing and even in delaware which didn't get a whole lot of snow. still going to be slippery issues with 24 in klaymont and 26 in harrington. some below freezing temperatures and night fall, that adds up to some trouble. this is a way it looked at 6:00 thn this morning. snow came in on schedule as expected and pretty much moved out on schedule too. early in the afternoon, but we now have an area of snow showers down across kent county and delaware and this is perhaps accumulating a little bit. by tomorrow morning, feeling like close to zero in philadelphia. below zero across the rest of the area. by afternoon, middle of the eagles game feeling like 7 and three in doyle and allentown. mount pocono and then it really gets cold. sunday evening, the early fireworks, five in philadelphia and zero doilstown, allentown and redding. and then your midnight, we're talking about below zero in philadelphia. 7 below in redding. 18 below in mount pocono. monday morning, 2 to 5 below in philadelphia and 7 below in doilstown. you can see, everybody is affected by this. it doesn't warm up much. monday afternoon, it stays pretty much single digits all day on monday and then monday night, we're back down near zero or below zero by tuesday morning. so that's an extended period of really brutal cold. of course, the eagles game in the middle of that. good thing it's during the day and not the night or else these would be minus 9 and but that's low enough. feeling like 9 during much of the eagles game. feeling like that. as they get started, we're talking about 8 at 7:00 a.m. feeling like 7 below zero. just as everybody is gathering. that's pretty brutal. 9:00 a.m. when it starts, 12 degrees feeling like 3 below. 11:00 a.m. by zero and 1:00 p.m., feeling like 6:00. part of the problem, the reason they were going ahead to do this is the forecast for next saturday which was going to be the alternate is almost as cold as that. so it wouldn't make any difference. >> right. tough choice. i remember freezing out at the mummers parade as a kid but i don't know if it was as cold as this one. >> one of the coldest ever. >> glenn, thank you. take a look at what the brutally cold temperatures have done in niagara falls. days of snow and temperatures in the teens have turned the area around the falls into blocks of ice and extreme cold isn't enough to freeze the rapids but the sidewalks and railings and walls near are frozen over. if the arctic blast continue, people who live in the area predict the falls could freeze by january. a live look at times square. in the 20s there tonight but new year's eve tomorrow and the ball drop, the mercury is set to fall to 11 degrees. it will feel like minus 5. but that's not the coldest ever. that was in 1971 when it was 1 degree. temperatures won't be that different for the fireworks tomorrow night but you can watch them from the comfort of your own home. you're on nbc10. the first show at 6:00 and ring in the new year at midnight that's right here on nbc10. now here's john. >> hey, villanova ran into a hot shooting team. toughest battle of the season as butler will show you that in the fiesta bowl and nick on playing in the deep freeze tomorrow and look at who's going to be making an eagles debut tomorrow. we'll tell you all about that coming up next. this is sports desk brought to you by xfinity. it will change the way you experience tv. i'm john clark from nbc sports philadelphia. the eagles in the final regular season game. the player making the nfl debut. how about second round draft pick sidney jones has been activated and he will play tomorrow 9 months after he ruptured his achilles and practicing the last few weeks waiting for this. think he's ready to go. an nfl source tells me this will not affect his contract or hurt the eagles. he will be a restricted free agent after the rookie deal. all good. the eagles practice yesterday and it will be 21 degrees at game time tomorrow and nick did not play well monday night against the raiders and a bit of a hot take. good to see him play well in the cold. >> i think the big thing, don't worry about it. go play ball and see him get in the zone. get completions. that's really football. >> if the eagles win tomorrow, 14 wins and have you talked about that with the team?
