Tracking the storm system. Weve traded the heat for some thunderstorms. The heat wave is over but weve got thunderstorms moving through parts of the area. We have had some sun peek out toward the center city skyline but the main thunderstorm that were tracking is passing just to the south of the area. You can see weve got some drizzle lingering here toward philadelphia, extending into parts of southern new jersey, but our heavier storm moving out of northern delaware and into salem county. P pennsville seeing some heavy rain right now but we did to watch as this did produce heavy rain. We actually have a flood advisory in effect through 8 15 so you could be running into localized flooding there. We have additional storms off to the north and west that will be tracking eastward the next couple of hours so well need to watch for scattered locally strong storms, mainly where we see the yellow shading. Demonstrators are set to take to the streets of philadelphia for the fourth day in a row to protest police brutality. This is a live look now and this comes as president obama calls for calm. As painful as this week has been i firmly believe america is not as divided as some have suggested. The president is planning to visit dallas early next week after five officers were killed in a sniper attack thursday. Seven officers and two civilians were also hurt. Tonight weve learned that two of the injured transit officers have been released from the hospital. Well have more on the situation in dallas still ahead. But first, many are wondering how police and communities heal and regain trust after such a violent week. Randy gillenhall is live with that part of the story. Denise, both sides hoping to have a dialogue tonight. The protest will begin here in the fair hill section of philadelphia and they tell me it will go all the way up to the 24th and 25th District Police headquarters in north filly and the protesters plan to do some sort of disruption there, blocking traffic. I can show you right now a heavy police presence. Theyre to keep the crowd safe. A lot of bicycle patrol officers. Across the street a number of protesters gathering. Its supposed to start in the next few minutes. Many of them Holding Signs as the nation right now deals with a tense relationship between Law Enforcement and citizens. A weekend of protests continues. Activists will march to a north filly Police Station and disrupt traffic. Tensions ratcheting up nationwide after this violent week between citizens and cops. If we really just try to calm the situation, calm people down. Reporter reverend taylor is a baptist pastor in a city with strained Police Relations after a recent officerinvolved shooting. We want people to come together and unify and talk about whats really going on and come up with solutions instead of violence and anger. Reporter philadelphias Police Advisory Commission Says the solution is transparency. Part of the frustration, i think, is that folks feel they have no voice. Reporter Rhonda Goldstein says departments nationwide must create space for trust to grow with body cameras, civilian oversight and communitybased policing. Getting out into the neighborhoods and people can learn to understand one another and break down some of that fear that drives all of this horrible violence. Reporter but fear is now growing on both sides and leaders say its more important now than ever to bridge the gap and create dialogue. Its the fear of anything thats different than you are. In order to break that down, communication must occur. And communication occurs when we walk with each other, when we talk with each other. New information is emerging about the man who shot and killed five Police Officers in dallas. 25yearold Micah Johnson was accused of Sexual Harassment when he served in the military. Nbc news has learned that a female soldier in afghanistan accused johnson of Sexual Harassment in 2014 and she requested he get mental help. Johnson was set to be removed from the army because of that incident but later got an honorable discharge. Take a look at this moving scene that happened just moments ago. People standing on an overpass carrying american and texas flags as a hearse carrying one of the fallen Police Officers passed below. Officer brent thompsons body is being taken from dallas to corsicana, texas. This comes as the Dallas Community honors the lives of those five Police Officers killed in thursdays ambush. Nbcs chris palone continues our team coverage. Reporter a memorial to the five murdered Police Officers is growing outside Dallas Police headquarters. The city can unite and be one again. Reporter many feel helpless, knowing theres nothing they can really do except offer sympathy and support. I think everybody should come out. If you love the police, if you love dallas. A friend said he planned to do this for four hours, to show the actions of one military member, Micah Johnson, dont represent the entire military. Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings also visited, hoping that something positive to come from one of his citys darkest days. You know, were all human here, and i think that people feel each others pain. Reporter a couple blocks away, police are still processing a huge crime scene, trying to answer key questions about johnson. How long had he planned the attack, where he got his weapons, whether he acted alone. Meanwhile, five families are planning funerals. My sons a hero. Reporter among them the family of patrick zamarippa, who survived three tours in iraq only to be gunned down at home. He would help you in any way. One of the things that gives me hope this week is seeing how the overwhelming majority of americans have reacted, with empathy and understanding. Now to a developing story from germantown where a 13yearold girl was stabbed in the neck. It happened inside a house on the 5200 block of marion street. The girl was taken to the hospital where shes in stable condition. No one has been arrested. The fire marshal believes a fastmoving fire that swept through several rowhomes in cobbs creek overnight is suspicious. Investigators are looking into the possibility that the fire at 58th street and largewood avenue is related to two other fires in that same area last night. Authorities say it started on the porch and then spread to several neighboring homes. I began banging on peoples door. The fire began spreading really fast, so i ran from house to house. The fire just followed me. Two firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion and two residents were treated for smoke inhalation. Still ahead, this may look like your average highspeed police chase but its whos behind the wheel of the minivan that may surprise you. Plus we have a winner. Take a look at the highspeed chase. A 12yearold boy has been charged after leading police on this chase in a minivan. Police released this dash cam video showing the chase that happened late last month in b g bang bangor, maine. Police say the van was going 55 miles an hour and ran through red lights and stop signs. They were able to stop the boy about eight minutes later when the officer hit the van. Unfortunately, you did not win that giant Mega Millions jackpot unless for some reason you bought your ticket in indiana. That winning ticket, worth than estimated 540 million, sold at a gas station in cambridge city. Thats a small town east of indianapolis. The winner has not come forward just yet. But a ticket sold in new jersey did match the five white balls to win a million bucks. So check your tickets. The winning numbers from last night are 8, 19, 20, 55, 73, and the mega ball is 5. Brazen burglaries. The search is on for a group of thieves who hit a neighborhood overnight while people were sleeping inside their homes. What police have uncovered about these crimes so far. New at 6 00, bucks county burglaries. Thieves broke into home after home in a bucks county neighborhood overnight. It happened in the morrisville section. They stole cash and electronics, all while people were sleeping inside. Police are looking for help to fine the people responsible. Drew smith is live in the neighborhood to explain how the crooks got in. Drew . Reporter denise, it all happened around the back of these homes. Police believe more than one person went in through the back windows of the homes that were hit and made off with property belonging to the people who were sleeping inside. It makes you nervous. Reporter john mason and his neighbors woke up to investigators asking if anyone saw burglars going in through back windows of four homes on this street overnight. I think it was professionals, and more than one person, because theres four houses were hit. Theyd have to do it pretty quick and go. Reporter in one home, the burglars hauled out a 55inch television mounted to the wall. In others they took cash, phones and laptops. It sounds like these people got in quickly while people were sleeping. Reporter david bowers think they skipped his home because he was right in their path. I was sleeping on the couch right by the back door. Reporter police say the thieves also tried to get into homes on another nearby street but werent able to find any unlocked windows. Im going to be a lot more careful now. Reporter and the police chief of this township actually lives on this street. Hes now asking people around here to be on the lookout and lock any possible entryway into their homes. Im drew smith, nbc 10 news. The 35th annual hispanic fiesta is taking over penns landing this weekend. Thousands of people came out for an afternoon of great food and music all celebrating the latino culture. Now, some of these showers have ushered in cooler temperatures but north and west were at 78 in allentown, lower 70s toward bethlehem, so temperatures have been on the cool side for the entire area much of the afternoon. As we head into tonight, we will still need to watch out for heavy thunderstorms. Thats going to be the next couple of hours as well still have some of that daytime heating presenting, but things will start to clear out for your sunday and monday. Not only are we looking at seasonal temperatures but that humidity will finally come down as well. Nonetheless, as we head into the later parts of next week, the heat will start to return so thats something well watch over the next couple of days. We have thunderstorms moving through from philadelphia extending southward into parts of south jersey. Moving out of Newcastle County in delaware and pushing off to the south and east. Were seeing a little more in terms of lightning. That will be approaching commercial at 7 38. So shifting south and eastward but we also have additional storms developing off to our north and west. You can see those approaching perhaps the poconos back down into the Lehigh Valley over the next couple of hours. But its the Northern Edge you can see thats intensifying, so hopefully these dont get too out of hand over the course of the next couple of hours but these can produce some heavy rain and gusty winds so well need to be on the lookout for that again, mostly before midnight. However, we do have High Pressure sitting off to our west and thats going to bring us nice weather sunday and monday so we do have something to look forward to as these thunderstorms start to shift out of the area. 10 00, lingering showers mostly toward the shore but well be clearing out after midnight. With that, the lower humidity sets us up for a beautiful sunday. It will be mostly sunny and a little on the breezy side as well, but were talking about a northwest wind so that will make it feel much more comfortable. Our heat wave over ended pretty dramatically. 79 for the high today. Quite a big difference compared to the last couple of days but temperatures will be on the upswing as we head into your sunday and looking at highs mostly in the mid80s. A nice seasonable day and it will be less humid. Thats something that i think will be noticeable, especially after the last couple of days that weve had with highs in the mid90s, but the heat index reaching triple digits in spots. High pressure stays in control for your monday and tuesday. Were looking at a nice amount of sunshine all the way out toward the shore. It looks like the heat starts to build once again the later part of the week when the chance for thunderstorms returns as well.
