unionville just 1 degree above freezing. exton is 37 degrees and it is 37 in perkasie and bedminster as well. a cold start but a sunny day today. get ready for plenty of sunshine. i am tracking okay at least for right now. all lanes open to traffic again. no alternates necessary for you there. we're dealing with more construction, some on passyunk avenue east and westbound between 61st street and 28th street. that's reduced to two lanes. here's the schuylkill, no problems through the conshohocken curve. still in the green, east and westbound, 13-minute trip into the city. >> thanks, jessica. 4:02. new from overnight, a teenager is in extremely critical condition after someone shot him seven times. it happened near more and south hollywood streets in south philadelphia. the victim is 17 years old. police are looking for the shooter. it just firefighters just minutes to knock down flames at millic street. happening today at cumberland county, grief counselors will be at bridge high school. the school district will collect donations for the family of davis felton and michaela. the girls died on their way from a post-prom celebration. state police are investigating. police say a philadelphia man doused his girlfriend with gas, set her on fire and then left her for dead at a bucks county motel. >> tell us what happened? >> i lost it. >> that was kevin small after his preliminary hearing yesterday. he told us "he lost it." police charged him with setting the fire at the lincoln motel in bensalem that killed melissa bacon smith. small threw gas on her while she was smoking. it also caused the evacuation of the motel. >> people were running down the hallway, everybody was like get out, get out, get out, there's fire. >> we believe she reached out to him and called his name and he left her in there to die. >> surveillance video from the wawa across the streets shows small putting gas in a cup before the fire. they finished years of hard training and this morning, there are new leaders ready to take command in the army. at widener university 16 cadets from 5 local universities were commissioned as second lieutenants in the u.s. army. parents of the lincoln and milton, both in the upper 30s right now. millsboro is 39 degrees. get a chilly start and it is going to be a dry day today. no sign of any clouds. that's part of why the temperatures have route 55 all the way up to the walt whitman bridge, under a five-minute drive time there. here's the pa turnpike, we're okay there as well, still in the green. a 23-minute trip westbound to route 1 from valley forge. watching that emergency construction over the delaware memorial bridge. the heft lane is closed headed into delaware. no big backups heading into new jersey. the left lane is closed into delaware. the push is on to pay workers more money across new jersey. today lawmakers will discuss raising the minimum wage in that state. ahead, hear how much more workers could make per hour to help him and others. 4:09 and 43 degrees outside. happening today, opening statements begin in the chaka fattah federal corruption trial. the once prominent philadelphia politician was recently voted out of office and now he faces jail time. nbc 10's matt delucia is live outside the federal courthouse in center city with a closer look at the case. walk us through what's going to happen. >> well, tracy, the trial is expected to take several weeks but those opening statements are expected to be in later on this morning. the jury was selected from a pool of more than 200 men and women. that happened earlier this month. now that jury is seated. the 11-term congressman is accused of taking bribes and misusing hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign money, charitable funds and federal grants to pay off personal debt. he's denied all of the accusations against him. there is a long list of potential witnesses, many of them powerful political leaders. and fattah may be the most recognizable face at the defense table but he will be sitting with four other defendants. the government says they took part in this scheme. regardless of what happens in court, the voters spoke their mind last month. fattah lost the primary for another term in congress. opening arguments are scheduled to begin at 9:00 here at the federal courthouse. reporting live this morning in center city, i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. new this morning, a teenager has single handedly made the summer brighter for students suffering from usher syndrome, a disease that causes vision and hearing loss. she not only raised awareness but also won a lot of money.ç katy zachry is in mt. laurel to explain how this helps a young boy named henry and other kid s like him. >> it started with a fund-raiser on national tv and a girl who wants to make a difference. that is 8th grader gabrielle turgeon. she submitted an essay about henry norton. it was part of a fund-raiser for the hsn network and gabrielle won. $1,000 will go towards henry and five others like him to attend a summer camp with their interpreters at no cost to them. >> i'm really excited because this year i'm a cit. i can work even more with the kids and i can be more involved in the things they do. >> and what's so unique about this summer camp that henry, who you saw there, and five of his friends will be attending, it's a normal summer camp, not a camp specifically for kids who are suffering from vision loss and hearing loss. but a totally normal camp they can attend with their interpreters. again, at no cost to them. coming up in the next hour, you'll hear from henry about what this win means for him. reporting live in mt. laurel, katy zachry, nbc 10s news. federal records show a bus companied involve in this deadly rollover crash in texas had safety issues last year. eight people were killed in saturday's accident and dozens more injured. the bus was open its way to a casino on the texas/mexico border when the bus rolled over. it was described as the worst commercial vehicle accident she's seen in teen years. the ntsb is investigating all aspects. we will look at the highway, the vehicle, the driver and company operations. >> now, regulators in louisiana last year ordered one of the company's two buses out of service after safety reviews. it's not clear yet if that was the same bus involved in the crash. investigators are looking into what caused the train filled with sand to derail. nine of the cars went off the tracks near an elementary school in ft. collins, colorado. there was nothing hazardous on the train and no one was hurt. 4:13. two soccer teams in england are scheduled to play their match tomorrow after a bomb scare forced a stadium evacuation and canceled the contest. it investigators say the suspicious device was actually fake. a private company left it behind after a training exercise. bomb dogs and sniffer dogs moved in to sweep the stadium. >> they were ushered away from the stadium. >> officials with the premier league defended its decision to cancel the game saying the safety of fans and workers come first. aç couple from somerset county has the wind is blowing, it's not all that strong. drops into the 30s in south philadelphia and in the suburbs in the lehigh valley. there's spots in philadelphia that also have temperatures into the 30s. 40 degrees in chestnut hill and somerton is 40. these numbers are still coming down. allentown and codesville, in the 30s right now. that's 7 degrees colder for allentown, 9 grows colder in trenton and vineland is down by 10 compared to yesterday morning. we are getting a cold start and it's going to be a windy one. the forecast winds calling for wind speeds near 20 miles an hour this afternoon. not quite as strong as yesterday. strong enough to keep us in the 60s this afternoon when normally we should be in the mid-70s this time of year. there's your neighborhood forecast. bethlehem, 62 temperature in fairmont today. in new jersey, the wind will be blowing. you'll feel through the day occasional clouds blowing past haddonfield, 64 degrees today. at the shore, a chilly, sunny day with 65 the high temperature for atlantic city. ive alon up to 63 degrees and delaware, bright sunshine and gusty winds. 65 in dover and wilmington. just a degree cooler at 64 degrees. that's today. come tomorrow, we're going to be talking wet weather once again. the futurecast keeps us clear through the day today. this time tomorrow morning you'll see scattered showers in western pennsylvania. those will be on the move and come tomorrow morning at 11:00, we will see rain moving through the area. it will be in the area, into the evening hours, a chance of light showers at that time, farther north where you live. plus it's clear. >> it's part of why it's so chilly. the temperatures have dropped. they're still falling. 37 degrees in the suburbs. the lehigh valley in the 30s. &háhp &hc% 38 degrees. some of the coldest temperatures are in the lehigh valley. new tripoli is 37, leesport 37 degrees and 39 degrees in easton while white hall is 35 degrees and allentown, that's 37 degrees. that ties the record low temperature for this day. everybody is feeling the chill. look at delaware at 40 degrees. that's close to the record low this morning. in new jersey 38. we have clear skies. we see sunshine in fact bright sunshine. but you'll also feel a gusty wind blowing out of the west. that's with gusts of 30 miles an hour this afternoon. for philadelphia, dry today. tomorrow it's a different story. you may have glanced at the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. that's your chance to check out what's ahead for each part of our viewing area. we've broke tonight down 23-minute trip. average speeds are into the 60s. this is route 202 also. we are still in the green there. no problems or delays with our drive times. you can see at the most, southbound, it will take you from the schuylkill to route 30. over in allentown, watching construction as well. south 8th street is closed between union street and lehigh street. area bridges are doing okay. no scheduled openings for the burlington bristol or the tacony palm
