for all of the pollen out there. boy, that stuff is really giving people with allergies some problems. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm chris cato. we have made it to friday. let's begin with meteorologist bill henley and the first alert forecast. good morning, bill. >> good morning. we have showers tracking into the region. parts of delaware with rain. you can see beach avenue is still damp. the showers are just moving off of cape may. maybe still a few sprinkles right in the tip of cape may but a steady rain right now in central and southern delaware. dover is getting some rain and into sussex county as well. the temperatures in the 40s and low 50s. 51 at philadelphia international. trenton is 46. the rain is 52 degrees in dover. you will see a chance of a shower during the day today but not really a big threat. mostly it will be dry and mainly cloudy, too. some breaks of sunshine 54. up to 60 degrees at noontime. we'll go through it neighborhood by neighborhood with the forecast when i'm back in ten minutes. let's find out what the friday morning traffic is like. jessica boyington. >> good morning. ongoing construction on the vine street expressway. these are our cameras around 18th street. you can see the drive times are hardly affected down to 5 minutes westbound. if any traffic were moving through you would see one lane scooting on by. as we head out to the rest of the drive times, everything is still looking free and clear. no problems on 95 or the schuylkill heading into center city. no problems on the blue route as well. we are dealing with construction on the ben franklin. new from overnight, a woman was hurt when a fire started inside her kingsessing home. firefighters got to her home around 2:30. they found heavy fire in the back. the woman suffered smoke inhalation. she's now in the hospital. no word on her condition yet or what caused that fire. well the clock is running as will be thousands of people sunday morning. here is the official countdown clock to the big race this sunday morning at 8:00. we are now 2 days, 3:56 and some odd seconds from the starting air horn. "nbc 10's" matt delucia is live in olney. matt still some work to be done, right? >> reporter: that is correct, chris. a couple of days to go and a lot of work to turn this road into a 10 mile race course. sunday morning 40,000 racers will be out here with supporters and family. volunteers have been busy packing food and snacks. they're going to continue the efforts today. they're setting up the tents at the navy yard. the race starts 1/2 hour earlier. if you have been doing this for several years, keep that in mind. broad street will be closed sunday morning. it's a good idea to plan another way around. if you're running don't forget to pick up your bib and other race related gear today and tomorrow at the pennsylvania convention center. coming up at 4:30 we'll hear about the preparations that are underway and what you need to do to get ready. live in olney i'm matt delucia, "nbc 10 news." >> if i started running it now i'm not sure i would be done by sunday morning. remember "nbc 10" is your official station to watch the blue cross broad street run. we are airing it live sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. 4:04 now. a show of solidarity with baltimore. hundreds of people in philadelphia held peaceful protests in center city throughout the day, but as the sun began to set, the tensions began to rise. protesters tried to force their way onto the vine street expressway. "nbc 10" was there as one person was taken into custody. here you see video of that skirmish. the march began at city hall where more than 600 people began to call for change in the wake of freddie graves death in baltimore. >> this country loves to suppress any kind of honesty about what's going on in the system and we're not here for this today. >> i came out here because the tone has to change. >> now the crowd marched for miles yesterday. at times they brought entire city blocks to a stand still blocking traffic. despite a few clashes, no one was hurt. there were two arrests, just two. meantime there were conflicting stories about what happened moments relating to the upcoming of freddie gray's death. donte allen rode in the van with gray because he couldn't see gray because of a solid divider. they report gray was already responsive by the time alan was put in the van but alan insists he heard the banging. >> all i heard was a little banging for about four seconds, you know what i mean. i heard little banging, just little -- you know what i mean. >> boomer:. >> boomer: just little banging. >> now gray's autopsy report shows no evidence that he banged his body against anything on his own. gray died from a spinal injury a week after his arrest. six officers involved in that arrest are now suspended. new jersey state troopers will remain in baltimore until next week or maybe longer. yesterday governor christie extended their deployment until tuesday at the request of maryland's governor. 150 troopers and police workers left mercer county on tuesday. they've been helping enforce baltimore's curfew. pennsylvania state troopers are heading to baltimore to help. 4:07. the eagles will enter round two tonight with a new wide receiver. here's commissioner roger goodell announcing the bird's first choice. >> with the 20th pick in the 2015 nfl draft the philadelphia eagles select nelson aguilar, wide receiver usc. >> the birds took nelson aguilar as the 20th pick. he was southern california's wide receiver and he can return kicks. pretty versatile. >> that was before the draft, eagles fans yelling do the deal to coach kelly. they wanted the team to trade up to get oregon quarterback marcus mariota. chip kelly did talk with the tennessee titans about trading up for the second pick but he said the price was too high as many expected. the eagles have the 20th pick in the second round of the draft tonight. from coach kelly. the eagles blueprint airs sunday 11:30 p.m. on "nbc 10." we have new information now about this fire at the red stone american grill in burlington county. look at this. an "nbc 10" viewer sent us this video showing flames shooting through the restaurant in the promenade at sagemore. the fire started in the kitchen. there were people inside but they all made it out safely. a standoff montgomery county ended late last night. when it did, police found a suspect dead and a woman wounded. the standoff played out for more than three hours at a town house complex in north wales. s.w.a.t. teams swarmed that complex. a woman who had been shot was found lying in the parking lot and witnesses say they saw a person run into the house. police surrounded the home and evacuated neighbors. >> three squad cars, they came down with their guns drawn and next thing i know all hell broke loose. >> police went into the home around 10:00 p.m. and they found the suspect dead inside. they haven't said how he died. the woman was air lifted to the hospital but no word yet on her condition. a new safety policy borne out of a tragedy goes into effect in gloucester county. it requires police cars going 20 miles an hour over the speed limit to use their lights and sirens. this policy comes after a franklin township police car hit and killed a 10-year-old boy as he was crossing the road last december. also today, camden county is celebrating two years since the restructuring of its police force. officials say the commitment to community policing has helped reduce violent crime in camden. local and state officials will hold a celebration at pine point park in north camden. now your "nbc 10" first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> 10 minutes after 4:00. clouds in the area and tracking a few showers this morning. it is going to be a little bit rainy to start with from the south. dover is reporting light rainfall right now. 52 degrees. it's 46 in trenton with clear skies and mount pocono is at 43 degrees. most of the area is dry but showers overnight. you can see what it's done to cape may. a bit damp outside. a few puddles. it's ended in cape may. steady rain from dover to the south and heavier downpours in northern sus sense county in delaware. neighborhood by neighborhood forecast. cloudy skies. might see a few breaks of sunshine. 60s for allentown, reading in the middle 60s. breaks of sunshine possible and a slight chance of an afternoon showers for doylestown norristown and mount holly. 57 this afternoon. cape may will top out at 61 degrees along with dover and vine land. the showers this morning will taper off. there's only a slight chance of an afternoon shower. we'll see a sprinkle or two in the philadelphia area. most of we're starting things off on the schuylkill expressway where we have no problems on spring garden street. hardly no volume. under 13 minutes for the total drive time there. and out on 95 we're getting word of an accident on 95 northbound closing the right hand shoulder. cheltenham hazardous conditions. east town line road and walker avenue. mass transit, no problems or delays for septa, new jersey transit or patco lines there. a couple's honeymoon ended in a death ride on the venice boardwalk. now we learn why a driver was out of control at the tourist destination. plus a philadelphia priest wrapped up in a child sex abuse scandal learns if he will go back to prison. happening today, a judge will sentence a philadelphia man for killing and dismembering another man. keith tolbert pleaded guilty to murder. he and two prostitutes killed keith zarzickia. tolbert cut up the bodies and put it in the schuylkill river. this former youth football coach faces sentencing for child sex abuse. a philadelphia jury convicted leon watson jr. for assaulting five of his players and a developmentally disabled adult. police arrested him in 2013 after getting a tip that he was abusing some of the boys on his team. 4:15. the coast guard has suspended its search for a boater missing since the storm hit the alabama coast line over the weekend. local police will now handle the recovery mission. crews have found the bodies of five boaters who died when near hurricane winds hit during a sailboat race. in california the 2014 trial is under a boardwalk crash trial. the driver was trying to run down a drug dealer who had ripped off his friend. the driver is charged with jumping a curb and plowing through a crowd of pedestrians. today a bucks county cultural center is holding a fund-raiser for earthquake victims. most of the people there in the capital have moved back indoors after sleeping outside all week for fear of after shocks. gas stations are open again in kathmandu and a bakery in the suburbs is once again selling fresh bread and croissants. farmers are trying to get as much fresh food to people as possible. a 4-month-old baby is back with his family. they heard the baby crying and were able to get to him. the baby has only a few scrapes and bruises. looks pretty happy there, doesn't he? the government confirms that more than 6,000 people died in the quake. nigeria's army says it rescued more women and children from boko haram's militants yesterday. this morning we're getting a look at photos of some of the nearly 300 women and girls freed this week. it's still not clear if any of them were the students kidnapped last year. this morning a former catholic church official in philadelphia is back in prison now. yesterday a judge revoked bail for monseigneur william lynn. the monseigneur was the first u.s. church official to be prosecuted for his handling of priest sex claims. he's been on house arrest since 2013. then on monday the pennsylvania supreme court reinstated the issue. lynn's lawyer took issue with the judge who revoked his bail. >> i think there is no support legally and factually for what she did. she's wrong and i'm going to prove it. >> lynn's attorney says he will file an appeal. 4:18 and on to decision 2016 now. this morning there are officially two democrats in the race for the white house. vermont independent senator bernie sanders announced yesterday that he will run for president as a democrat. he joins hillary clinton, of course, in a race in which she's the heavy favorite. sanders kicked off his campaign with a blast against the rich. >> can't continue having a nation in which we have the highest rate of childhood poverty of any major nation on earth at the same time as we're seeing a proliferation of millionaires and billionaires. >> hillary clinton says she welcomes her first formal challenger and agrees the focus must be on helping america's middle class. so far three republicans have declared they're running, texas senator ted cruz rand paul and marco rubio. speaking of kentucky happening this weekend festivities are underway for tomorrow's kentucky derby. can you believe it's time for it again. you're looking at the annual pegasus parade held in louisville. the big race in churchill downs, 20 horses will be in the race. live coverage of the 141st kentucky derby begins tomorrow afternoon, importantly, the track will be dry so it could be a faster race this year. got a little bit of a breeze. the wind's not too quick this morning. we have clouds overhead. no signs of any showers for philadelphia but they are just to the south in delaware this morning. 51 degrees right now in philadelphia. mainly dry during the day today. there is a chance of an isolated shower coming across boat house row. the rain is farther to the south south of wilmington. these temperatures are all dry. north and west. chillier. 49 pottstown. some 40s in south jersey. millville is 49. low 50s for middletown and newark. the rain is falling in dover. the clouds are reaching into philadelphia but those clouds are not producing any rain. the rain is from dover to the south and this is a system that's going to be around during the day today. so to keep a chance of some showers moving into our area. just a slight chance. steadier rain will move to the south. mostly cloudy day. cooler than
