today, so much warmer than we're used to for this time of year. here's a live look at the poconos, where we have fresh powder on the ground and a closer look at our current temperatures really tells the story. we're in the 40s right now in the poconos, 47 degrees. 53 in philadelphia, 52 in wilmington, 52 in millville and low 50s in atlantic city. as we head into the rest of today, we are going to see mostly cloudy skies, temperatures staying mild, so it will be nice and comfortable out. by 9:00 a.m., still in the mid-50s. 57 degrees by noon. but as you can see, a chance of showers heading into your evening hours closer to 6:00 p.m. i'll let you know how long those chances of showers will stick around. and also, i'm tracking an arctic blast that's going to drop our temperatures more than 20 degrees. i'll have all the details in my first alert seven-day forecast, but for now, we check in with traffic reporter katy zachry. good morning. >> good morning. the temperatures don't look too bad today and the roads are looking good. no accidents to report on any of our majors. let's start with a live look at 95 near cottman avenue. just some overnight long-term construction going on here, but it's not tying anything up. look at the drive times, between woodhaven and the vine, north and south, about 13 to 14 minutes in both directions. moving into new jersey, a live look at the 42 freeway. there is long-term construction here, but again, not tying anything up. this is at creek road. a few drivers on the road right now, so it's a good time to get out on the road. and for delaware drivers, there is some construction affecting drivers on 295 northbound, the off ramp to route 13. that is closed until next month. new from overnight in delaware county, police are looking for the people who fired shots at officers. it happened in chester along west 12th and nate ellis drive. investigators say the shots came from a nearby foot bridge. no officers were hit. so far, police have not arrested anyone. well, the fbi joined in on the search for missing west chester university student shane montgomery. he was last seen leaving a bar in manayunk early thanksgiving morning, and this morning still no sign of shane. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in manayunk. and matt, you were there on day four for the search for shane and back out here heading into day five. >> reporter: that's right, christine, and the reward has also increased. the fop is offering an additional $5,000 to bring the reward total this morning to $15,000 for information leading to shane montgomery's whereabouts. and this as the fbi joins the investigation. we have some video for you. nbc 10 was there along the manayunk canal as members of the philadelphia police marine unit searched every inch of the murky waters, hoping to find any clues. police tell us they are still hopeful that they will find shane montgomery alive. the 21-year-old was bar hopping with friends wednesday night into early thursday morning and he was last seen at kildare's here on main street. shane's family watched as search crews went through the canal, and i spoke with his mother, who can't imagine how her son could vanish. >> it amazes me that shane was out on one of the busiest nights, party nights, for kids that are 21 and over, and nobody saw anything. >> reporter: and the fbi task force is investigating now because shane disappeared under suspicious circumstances. and over the weekend, several hundred volunteers came out here through manayunk, up through roxborough to help with the search, passing out fliers, but so far, no positive leads. live in manayunk this morning, i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. the man accused of murdering an off-duty philadelphia police officer is set to go to trial today. rafael jones is one of two suspects in the murder of officer moses walker. jones is accused of firing the shot that killed the officer. police say walker was killed while walking home from work one morning back in august of 2012. take a look. this is surveillance video from when it happened in north philadelphia. police say jones violated his parole and should have been in jail at the time of the murder. the other suspect in the case, chancier mcfarland, pleaded guilty in june. mcfarland has agreed to testify against jones. freedom of speech will take center stage in the capitol today. the united states supreme court will hear a bethlehem man's case. anthony alonis was accused of making threats on facebook but says he was kidding when he posted graphically violent rap lyrics on the website. the lyrics talked about killing his estranged wife, shooting up a kindergarten class and attacking an fbi agent. in this case, the supreme court justices will consider whether online speech should be protected under the first amendment. president obama will hold a series of meetings today to discuss the situation in ferguson, missouri. the president will focus on his administration's review of federal programs that provide military-style equipment to police. he'll also meet with young civil rights leaders and local law enforcement in an effort to find ways to bridge the racial divide. in missouri, the ferguson commission will hold its first meeting since the grand jury decision not to indict officer darren wilson. wilson resigned over the weekend, saying he did not want to put the community or his fellow officers at risk. wilson did not receive a severance package and will not receive any further pay or benefits. some st. louis rams players acknowledge recent events in ferguson before their game. they entered the stadium yesterday, you can see them there, with their hands held up. that gesture has been used by protesters since 18-year-old michael brown was shot and killed by former officer wilson. civil rights leaders are calling for new technology in policing after conflicting witness accounts in the ferguson shooting. in delaware, state police officials say they're considered equipping troopers with body cameras. the camera would be strapped to the officer's chest or shoulder, offering protection for both the police officer and the community. well, today is cyber monday. many shoppers will be heading online for those holiday deals. cyber monday could give retailers the boost they're looking for this season. shoppers are expected to spend about $2.5 billion. that's more than last year's total of $1.7 billion. nbc 10's jesse gary is live outside one of amazon's product hubs in middletown, new castle county. jesse, that's expected to be a pretty busy place today. >> reporter: christine, executives with the online retailer say this is actually going to be their busiest day of the year. this is 1 of 40 fulfillment centers spread across the country. the vast space covers about several football fields and houses everything customers can click for. last year, amazon executives say their cyber monday business was up 13%. items were purchased at a rate of hundreds per second. coming up in the next hour, we'll move inside this facility to show you the method of grabbing, picking, packing and shipping all of those products. we're live in middletown, delaware, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. happening today, philadelphia mayor michael nutter will once again tackle the issue of paid sick leave for anyone who works in philadelphia. nutter created a task force to review the possible idea of mandatory paid sick leave for those employees. this morning, that task force will submit its findings to nutter. right now, about 200,000 workers in philadelphia do not have paid sick leave. we'll soon learn more about philadelphia's plan to become the host city for the democratic national convention in 2016. philadelphia's dnc host committee is meeting this morning to discuss the details. last month, philadelphia was named one of the final three cities under consideration, along with new york city and columbus, ohio. the final expect a whole lot. and then also, an arctic blast is on the way. it's going to drop our temperatures more than 20 degrees by tomorrow. live look at the poconos. we could also see a few inches of snowfall there tomorrow. i'll show you all the details, but for philadelphia right now, 53 degrees. that's a mild start to the morning. wind speeds out of the southwest at 11 miles an hour. we're about 17 degrees warmer in the poconos at this same time yesterday. we're 11 degrees warmer in wilmington, 10 degrees warmer in dover, 7 in atlantic city and 11 in mt. holly. if we look at our temperatures, we're at 39 degrees in pottstown, 36 in quakertown, 54 degrees in bluebell, 51 in swedesboro, 48 degrees in trenton, 54 degrees in mt. holly. closer to the shore, low 50s. 52 degrees in avalon and we're at 51 in dover. you can see cloudy skies right now. we'll continue to see mostly cloudy skies heading into the rest of today, which looking at off to the west here, what we could see, barricaded himself inside his home. a s.w.a.t. team eventually persuaded him to surrender and the victim only suffered a cut lip from a ricochetted bullet. now, new fallout from the ray rice ruling. multiple teams are expressing some interest in the former baltimore ravens running back, just days after rice was reinstated into the nfl. while questions swirl about rice's possible return to the field, his wife, janay, continues to stand by her husband. she talked exclusively to the "today" show's matt lauer. >> we've had nothing but support, even when we go out in public, that's all we get. residents not covered under the affordable care act will now have a chance to get health insurance. enrollment begins today in the healthy pennsylvania program. that's the name given to the expansion of pennsylvania's medicaid system. about 600,000 primarily low-income, single, working adults are newly eligible. 900,000 others who are already covered will also be affected. all can pick from plans offered by private insurers paid by the state. coverage will start on january 1st. philadelphia is preparing for the pope. archbishop charles chaput celebrated his first mass in center city since the pope announced he'll be coming to the world meeting of families in philadelphia. hundreds of people packed the cathedral basilica of st. peter and paul last night. some came by the busload with their parish. during the mass, the archbishop introduced the official hymn of the world meeting of families. it's "sound the bell of holy freedom." for many, the service built excitement for next year's papal visit. >> holy father's coming next year, and we want to get ready. we want to get ready for that. so, i was just flat out excited. >> all parishioners received the takehome keepsake, a photo of the holy family blessed by archbishop chaput. pope francis is calling for peace between muslims and christians. the pope wrapped up a visit to turkey yesterday by signing a joint peace declaration face charges after her three kids had to be rescued from a burning car in northwestern pennsylvania. the reason? police say she left them to go shopping at walmart. it happened friday in bradford, mckean county. authorities say a 10-year-old, a 3-year-old and 2-year-old were in the suv when the 10-year-old began playing with a lighter and set some papers on fire. the younger children were strapped into car seats at the time. fortunately, some passersby jumped into action and rescued the kids. the fire caused heavy damage to the suv's interior. just in the past 48 hours, philadelphia police started investigating four homicides. the latest happened yesterday afternoon when a man was shot five times on west tioga street in north philadelphia. and in strawberry mansion, a 35-year-old was found dead around 2:30 yesterday morning. police say he was shot in the head after leaving a party. no arrests have been made in any of these cases. saturday night, police found a woman dead inside a home on locust street in cobbs creek. they're calling the case a homicide but have not yet said how the woman died. also in cobbs creek, police found a man unconscious on webster street this morning. police say he was shot to death. extreme hoarding as well as weapons, ammunition and explosives made a deadly fire even more dangerous for firefighters in chester county. the fire started in the basement of a home on harmoniville road in warwick township saturday. 67-year-old gary shade and 64-year-old katherine shade did not make it out. the exact cause is still under investigation, but authorities believe the fire was accidental. a large supply of weapons, ammunition and explosives were found after the flames were put out. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist 11 miles an hour. we're up 17 degrees from this time yesterday. in the poconos. up 10 degrees in philadelphia and 11 in wilmington. so, you'll definitely notice the difference. it's been a nice break from our cold conditions, but the cold will make its return once again tomorrow. 47 degrees in the poconos, 44 in coatesville, 48 degrees in doylestown. washington township at 51 degrees right now. 53 in wilmington, 48 in trenton. closer to the shore, in the 50s to start off the morning. 52 degrees at the atlantic city airport. our radar shot shows that we are seeing clouds moving in from the west. we'll continue to see mostly cloudy skies. we have a cold front that's going to continue to slide our way throughout most of today. it's going to stall off the shore here as we head into the rest of this evening. so, that's going to help contribute to our temperatures dropping. it's also going to help trigger a few showers. you can see how light these showers are. they're not widespread. mainly coming into burlington county closer to 3:00 p.m. and as we head into the rest of the afternoon, on-and-off showers into the overnight hours. then on 9:00 a.m. tuesday, we are dealing with a brief wintry mix. that's going to start near south jersey but slowly work its way up through the i-95 corridor into parts of the lehigh valley and also into the poconos. we're not expecting a whole lot of accumulation here, but we are going to see our temperatures taking a big-time nose dive as we head into tomorrow. so, for today, 60 degrees. take a look at your tuesday, 39 degrees with a chance of a brief wintry mix. and as we head into wednesday and thursday, 53 degrees. on wednesday, temperatures recovering. we track our next chance of rain friday into the weekend. at 4:21 a.m., let's get a following in the germantown section of philadelphia, and it's important to note, because the road -- first responders are out on the scene and asking you to avoid the radio. it's on coulter street between germantown avenue and lena street. an alternate is church lane. again, you're asked to avoid the area. there is fire activity out there. you can take church lane around that. a live look at 76 right at girard avenue. no issues to report on the expanse of 76. and if you're driving on 76 from the vine to the blue route, it will take you about 14 minutes at this hour. so, you can't beat that. also, there's an accident in whitemarsh township. this is on ridge pike between church road and manor road. the road to get around this is germantown pike, because that accident's been out there for some time and crews are trying to clear it up. and finally, a live look in delaware. this is 495 at philadelphia pike. very few cars out on the road right now. no issues to report on any of our majors
