climbed into out of the 50s and into the 60s. 60 degrees here at nbc 10. still rain in the area, though the steadiest rain has moved to the northeast. still steady showers in the cape may area and lighter showers but steady rainfall in chester, montgomery and bucks counties. we will see sunshine break through this afternoon with the rain tapering off, but winds gusting close to 40 miles an hour in philadelphia, and that's a southerly breeze. that's going to warm things up today. right now 64 degrees in philadelphia. pottstown and trenton in the lower 60s, while it's 57 in wilmington, but the numbers will be climbing as the showers move out. 65 degrees at 9:00, and then by lunchtime we'll be up to 70 degrees. hour-by-hour forecast when i come back in less than ten minutes. first, matt delucia is in haferton this morning on brookline boulevard, driving through the rain this morning. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, bill. we are in storm force 10 on brookline boulevard here in havertown as we're getting ready to turn on to darby road. we can see a light mist out here through our windshield. the rain has pretty much eased up within the past 30 to 45 minutes, although we do have a little bit of wind in this area that we've been experiencing. a lot of those leaves still blowing off the trees. but we talk about today, and even though it's a wet day, people will be traveling for thanksgiving, and we understand from trip advisor, they're saying 27% of travelers plan to leave today, while only 24% plan to leave the day before thanksgiving. so, a lot of people on the roads expected today. we will be traveling here in storm force 10, but for now, we are live in delaware county. i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. and i'm katy zachry. good monday morning, with a look at your traffic. there is an accident 95 northbound for drivers approaching the 476 exit. here's a live look right now. you can see a number of emergency crews are out on the scene. it has actually closed a portion of 95 northbound right around this accident. so, let's go. here are the details. 95 northbound, it's between route 320 and i-476, the exits for 320 and i-476. the road is closed. an alternate around that is 291. we're also following another accident this early morning up along the northeast extension, northbound approaching the quakertown exit. again, northeast extension approaching quakertown northbound. the accident has been moved to the shoulder, but because of the wet roads, just be aware of that. also a live look in new jersey, 42 freeway. headlights are northbound. you can see wet roads, one of the things drivers are dealing with this morning. chris? >> katy, here's a closer look at that accident you mentioned. new overnight in delaware county, a crash in the northbound lanes of i-95 near chester. it has the road blocked there at this time, traffic at a standstill, several vehicles involved. this is from our traffic camera, video of the accident about half an hour ago. at this point, there are no reports of serious injuries, but again, 95 northbound blocked near chester this morning. we'll keep you posted on that. at 4:03 this morning, the legal battle between donald trump and a casino company bearing his name will continue in wilmington. the two sides will argue their case in u.s. bankruptcy court. trump is suing trump entertainment resorts. he wants his name removed from that company because he says the company has harmed his brand by letting the trump taj mahal and trump plaza fall into disrepair. trump plaza in atlantic city closed in september. the taj is scheduled to close december 12th. in other atlantic city casino news, a bankruptcy hearing in new york city today will determine the future of revel. according to reports, lawyers will try to rescue the sale of the casino hotel. a canadian firm announced last week that it's backed out of a $110 million bid to buy revel because of concerns over the utility bill. it's unclear if that company will be at today's hearing. happening today, a former montgomery county political leader will go on trial. former county republican chairman robert kearns will face a judge on charges of aggravated indecent assault. a former employee for his law firm accuses him of giving her drinks and sexually assaulting her after she passed out in october 2013. kearns has chosen not to have a jury hear his case. instead, a judge will decide his fate. the burlington county man who confessed to killing etan patz will find out whether his confession will be allowed in court. pedro hernandez said he lured the boy to the basement of a new york city store and strangled him. police arrested hernandez in 2012 at his home in maple shade. his defense attorney says he is mentally ill and not capable of understanding his rights. therefore, the confession he made should not be allowed. police still haven't determined exactly what happened to a woman whose naked body was found lying near a busy shopping center in south philadelphia yesterday. the body was found next to a warehouse on south christopher columbus boulevard near modell sporting goods and shoprite. a witness tells us that the body wasn't there earlier in the day. police have not confirmed the woman's identity, but family members tell us that they know that it's their loved one, crystal goodwin. she went missing last wednesday, and her family is convinced she was murdered. >> it's disturbing, because yeah, it's just so populated outside everywhere but right there. >> as a parent, as a human being, i mean, it's just, it's senseless and it's just, it's horrifying. >> homicide detectives are waiting for the medical examiner to release a cause of death. police are hoping security cameras in that area may show who put the body there. police in northampton county are trying to track down a mother of three who disappeared on friday. jessica padgett, 32 years old, was last seen leaving her job at the duck duck goose daycare in northampton. investigators say she left work to send a fax and never returned. volunteers have put up missing persons fliers on street signs and storefronts throughout the area. the newlywed's car was found in a dollar general parking lot a mile away from her job with her cell phone and personal items in the car. we talked with a friend about her disappearance. >> you know, this is not something that happened at night. this was in the smack dab in the middle of the day, you know. the community needs to be made aware because somebody out there knows something. somebody had to see something, whether they know it or not. somebody had to see something. >> it's quite a mystery. family and friends have created this facebook page to help find jessica. if you have any information on her whereabouts, call state police. 4:07 now and a grand jury will continue deliberations today in the investigation of ferguson, missouri, police officer darren wilson. it's been three months now since officer wilson shot and killed unarmed teenager michael brown, which, of course, touched off weeks of unrest and protests in that city near st. louis. there's no guarantee that jurors will reach a decision today or even this week, but when a decision is made, you can count on nbc 10 to bring you that news as soon as it happens. turn to us on air and online for instant updates and reaction. after feasting on the titans yesterday, the eagles are now focused on their thanksgiving showdown with the bitter rival cowboys. the birds wasted no time getting things going yesterday. josh huff taking this opening kickoff 107 yards! how about this for your first touchdown in the nfl? not bad for the rookies. the eagles out to the early lead. the titans stuck around for most of the first half, but then the birds shut them down and pulled away in the second half, winning 43-24. the eagles' tenth straight regular season win at the linc. now, thursday's game at dallas is at 4:30 in arlington. all right, now let's talk super bowl. and most importantly, the halftime entertainment. nfl announced last night that katy perry will headline this year's halftime show. perry known for her super poppy hits like "firework" and "roar." the super bowl will be played in phoenix on february 1st, and it will air right here on nbc 10. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> got a warm and windy day ahead, and we're starting off with rain, steady rain in the area is starting to taper off, however, and we will see showers end this morning, and then the temperatures will be taking off. that's a live view of center city from the adventure aquarium. you can see the clouds in place over the city. the wind is going to be strong for much of the day. in fact, winds are already gusting to 40 miles an hour in the area. rain coming tond this morning, but gusty winds will stay with us and head us toward record temperatures this afternoon. we will be in the 70s later today. right now, 57 degrees with rain falling in allentown. in the 60s for northeast philadelphia and atlantic city. look at the flags atop the aramark building in center city. that is going to be something we'll be looking at through the day today, and that is going to help boost our temperatures in a big way. already warm as we go through the morning. still some steady showers, light showers now for chester, montgomery and into bucks county, northern bucks county seeing some of the heavier rainfall. it's tapering off and come to an end for much of delaware and still some showers, but not for long at cape may. those will be heading off to the northeast rapidly. future weather shows ahead to 7:00 this morning. this is only rain, no snow to be found here, as temperatures will be way too warm. at 9:00 this morning, just a few scattered rain drops, and then that's it for the rainfall. we'll be breaking for sunshine and the temperatures into the 70s this afternoon. so, stand by for a mild day but gusty winds to 40 miles an hour will push the clouds out of here and warm the temperatures into the 70s. 70s today, but there's snow on the horizon as we head towards thanksgiving. the extended future weather. we'll look at that in less than ten minutes. >> oh, he said snow on the horizon. we cannot wait to hear more about that. let's talk now about traffic. we do have a couple problems out there this early monday morning. nbc 10's katy zachry keeping us posted. >> the newest one into the system is affecting the roosevelt boulevard. route 1 northbound near grant avenue. here's a live shot just up. so, i'm looking at it for the first time. you can see the camera moving with the wind. but police have quite a scene blocked off here. it's in the northbound outer drive of route 1 right near grant avenue. we actually have a photographer who's headed to the scene, so we'll get a better shot for you in just a few minutes, but that's going on on route 1. also, 95 northbound, there's an accident that is closed 95 between routes 320 and the exit for i-476. so, an alternate around that is 291. it's been out there for quite some time and it looks like crews will still be out there are to some time. northeast extension northbound, an accident that was moved to the shoulder. if you're approaching quakertown, you'll see that. and also even with the rain, there's still construction on the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound between willow grove and bensalem. the right lane is blocked there. and finally, if you're headed in new jersey, this is mt. laurel, live look at 73 near 295, some wet roadways to keep in mind. chris? speaking of the roadways, you've heard that the lowered gas prices could save you money if you're headed out of town for thanksgiving. well, next, we'll tell you how much you can expect to pay, depending where you're headed. and found alive. the rescue that started under the rubble of a woman's collapsed home. and worse than 7 feet of snow? we'll tell you what people in buffalo are rushing to do before all this stuff starts to melt. 4:14, and as you're waking up this morning, there's rain across the area, some of it heavy in places like cape may here, as we take a live look, where the winds have really picked up. no one feeling that more than nbc 10's jesse gary, who joins us live from atlantic city, up the shore there. jesse, the wind is getting heavy at this time. >> reporter: yeah, chris, that's right, so strong that it snapped my umbrella. so, the umbrella is not going to work. if you're headed out this morning, you want to make sure you keep both hands on the steering wheel. if you're using a low-profile or high-profile vehicle, doesn't matter, because the wind is whipping across the freeways and streets, and of course, there's a lot of rain also blowing around. so, it's very windy as you head out this morning. live in atlantic city, jesse gary, nbc 10 news. thanksgiving week is upon us, and studies show about a quarter of the people who will travel for the holiday will actually leave today. a lot of people getting an early start. nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter katy zachry joins us again. katy, you're breaking down just how much money people can expect to spend versus save, depending how you look at it, right? >> you gave it away. they are going to save this year, which is good news. gas prices this year are lower than last year, so many people are driving and they want to drive to their destination. we wanted to find out how much money you'll save this year compared to last. take a look at this map behind me. these are round-trip prices for how much money you'll spend. gas is under $3 a gallon. that means that it will cost about 28 bucks round-trip to get from philadelphia -- here we are -- to new york city. this is just gas prices, keep in mind, not tolls or parking. so, that's a savings of $3 from last year. if you're going to washington, d.c., from philadelphia, you'll pay just about $41 in gas. that's a savings of $5 from last year. and if you're headed west from philadelphia to pittsburgh, you will see the biggest savings this year. it costs $89 round-trip. that's a savings of about $11 from last year. we asked drivers if gas prices will affect their holiday travel plans. >> i think the marginal difference in cost is somewhat minimal, but i think that, certainly, if you look at it in a dollar amount, it certainly goes down. >> yeah, i'm actually surprised. i'm shocked. so yeah, i'm definitely going to take advantage of it while it's low. >> it does make you want to get in the car and just ride, you know. i enjoy the prices. i'm enjoying it and my pockets are, too. >> maybe not this morning with the wet roadways, but that's a break down for here in philadelphia. coming up, i'll have prices in new jersey and delaware. the army veteran who died last week in the chain-reaction pileup in berks county will be laid to rest today. friends and family will remember jeremy augustine this morning during funeral services at grace lutheran charge in macungie. augustine was one of two people killed in this deadly pileup on allentown pike in allentown last friday. police say an out-of-control tractor-trailer caused the crash. the driver of the big rig, steven bernier, is facing charges including homicide by vehicle. police say he was asleep at the wheel and speeding at the time of the crash. the south jersey woman who's accused of shooting her kids and then turning the gun on herself died over the weekend. janine lepage died yesterday morning at cooper university hospital. state police say lepage shot her three children inside their home in tabernacle, burlington county, last week. two of those children died. her 11-year-old son, alexander, remains in extremely critical condition. friends of lepage tell us she was having financial problems. today the president of the university of virginia's expected to hold a briefing on the recent sex assault allegations on campus there. the uva interfraternity council will also be represented at the news conference. this is after an arlg came out in "rolling stone" magazine which detailed what it called a culture of rape at the school. a first-year student claims she was assaulted by a gang at a frat house. an investigation is under way and the university has suspended all fraternity activities until next year. new jersey is the latest state to consider requiring colleges to define when yes means yes. it's known as affirmative consent. officials are hoping that this will help stop sexual assaults on campus and encourage students to talk openly about the issues surrounding sex. well, a tour bus crashed twice in one day. the first accident was minor. the second was deadly. now investigators are working to find out if the driver was too tired to be driving. the bus was traveling from los angeles to washington state when it ran off the road, went down an embankment and overturned. one person was killed. 30 others hospitalized. rescuers pulled two women and a dog from a pile of rubble after their apartment building collapsed in chicago. fire officials say there was an explosion. all three floors pancaked towards the basement. the victims are in serious condition. investigators are working to find out exactly what caused that explosion. today in buffalo, warming temperatures, several feet of melting snow and the threat of rain are prompting flood warnings there. temperatures are expected to hit the 60s in buffalo today. that means all of that snow, up to 7 feet of it in some places, could lead to flooding problems for people in the area. many people now scrambling to clear off roofs and uncover drains. officials are also keeping a close eye on creeks and streams, as that snow melts and wet weather moves in. the national guard is on standby. and the buffalo bills and new york jets will square off tonight in detroit. it's not actually a regularly scheduled "monday night football" game. the nfl moved the game to tonight after all of that snow fell in new york. some fans camped outside ford field for free tickets over the weekend. kickoff's set for 7:00 p.m. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> a steady, heavy rain is being kicked out of here this morning. we are going to see improving conditions first thing this morning. rain is still falling in the area, but it is much improved. we can now see the boat houses from the mellon bank building view. and look at the temperatures and wind, and it is related. it is the wind helping to boost our temperatures, now 64 degrees in philadelphia. and rain is falling on the slopes. you can see, it doesn't look great for the snow. the snow is going to remain, even though the temperatures will be warm today. and we're starting off with rain. they'll still be able to make snow this week, too, as temperatures will be turning colder. 25-mile-an-hour winds right now at philadelphia, gusting to close to 40 miles an hour. so, 60s reading, pottstown, northeast philadelphia, wrightstown all in the 60s this morning. look at camden, audubon, haddonfield in the low 60s. voorhees is 63 along with cherry hill and glendora. a very warm start this morning. but it has been damp and the rain is still falling from the lehigh valley through bucks, montgomery and into chester counties. but it's quickly tapering off in philadelphia and delaware. the last few rain drops are falling in cape may. so, we'll see the rain coming to an end. for most of the day, you won't need an umbrella. if you're leaving right now, maybe you'll want to take one with you. but later this week, you'll get to use the umbrella again because we will see rain that will change to snow. now, today we only get rain. see the winds? these strong, gusty winds bringing the warmer air from the south. so, the temperatures will sour after the rain moves out, but then colder weather as we head toward the end of the week, and we'll be watching the development of a coastal storm. this is tuesday we'll be in the clear. but on wednesday, it's going to be turning very rainy. by wednesday morning, we will see some steady rain in the area as that coastal storm system will be warm enough for rain to start with but not end that way. we will end with snow heading into wednesday night. gusty, warm winds today and 70s this afternoon. the full seven-day when i come back next half hour. >> all right. very interesting, bill. thank you. 4:22 now. let's see what's going on with a couple of problems on major routes in the area. nbc 10's first alert traffic reporter katy zachry will break it down for us. >> chris, normally this time of the morning we don't see this number of accidents, but we have a number of accidents and also wet roads, so a lot for drivers to be aware of. for drivers on 95 northbound, going between route 320 and the exit for i-476, that stretch of 95 north is closed because of an accident. it's been out there for some time. you can see a live picture here, emergency crews are on the scene trying to clear that and reopen the highway. so, here are those specific details. 95 northbound is closed between routes 320 and the exit for i-476. the alternate is 291. i'll keep on top of that and let you know when that road has reopened. also, we're following an accident in northeast philadelphia, torresdale avenue at magee street is closed because of an accident. frankford avenue is an alternate around that. and a look in the lehigh valley, 22 at airport road. where we are seeing a number of vehicles on the roadways. no accidents to report on 22, 78 or 309 up in that area. we'll look at delaware roads in a bit. he finished first, but this year's winner of the philadelphia marathon has higher hopes. we'll tell you what this weekend's winner has in store and why this may not be the last we see of him. plus, railroad worries. a battle brewing between septa and some of its union workers that puts passenger safety in the spotlight. 4:26. thousands of runners packed the ben franklin parkway for the philadelphia marathon. only two, of course, finished as winners. runners from across the country and world raced against the clock and each other to finish the 26-mile course. the overall winner, dan vassallo from massachusetts, finished in 2 hours, 17 minutes, fast enough to qualify him for the 2016 u.s. olympic trials. >> my goal today was to qualify for the u.s. trials, and i mean, i'm happy that happened and i'm happy that winning this thing is a by-product of it. i mean, it really is a dream come true. >> dan says he's excited to head to l.a. in 15 months to compete for those olympic trials. the new york woman who finished first ran the route in 2 hours, 39 minutes. this was her first full marathon. not bad. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> a rainy night, a windy day. the first alert weather radar showing the steadiest, heaviest rain has now pushed off to the northeast, but we still have some rain showers in the area this morning. and it is warm. 64
