light icy glaze that will form. boston is down to 34 degrees at this hour. so tomorrow morning as you starting the day and if you are traveling, even though nothing is really showing up on our future radar you have a chance for a little bit of that icy glaze on the road. it doesn't take much. it is urging a little bit of caution out there. otherwise it is just a gray day, chilly. tomorrow evening we will start to bring showers across the region. the best chance of some icy areas is along and west of 495. we are taking a look at the outlook for friday in a bit. if you are traveling tonight it is a very smooth ride out there. this is a live look at the mass pike in boston after what was a busy day. 49 million americans are traveling this thanksgiving. so expect heavy traffic if you are heading home on sunday packed grocery store parking lot. a driver slams into several cars, drags down a worker who is pushing carts at the time, and of course that store was full of course shoppers getting ready for thanksgiving. >> many of those shoppers ran outside to see the crash and the emergency response. unfortunately these accidents are not that uncommon. >> well thousands of these crashes happen every year. some of them deadly. busyness of the holidays does not help. >> from the air this hannaford parking lot looks like bumper cars. app packed night before thanksgiving, emergency crews say a woman backed her black sedan into a crowd of cars, shopping carts and at least one person. the cart struck an employee pushing carts. >> he got hit by her vehicle. he was conscious and alert. complained of a little pain. >> one other witness saw another man being helped by police. >> i saw a middle-aged man sitting on the ground. and the police all around them in the and the emergency people. >> i also plowed into at least six otherar showing her path of destruction. >> it was obviously some sort of issue. >> accidents like this aren't isolated. more than 50,000 crashes take place in parking lots each year leading to more than 500 deaths. a new study points to distract driving as a cause. first responders say this woman was not clear about what happened. >> one moment i was over there here. >> now again thankfully no one was seriously injured here today. the driver and the worker were brought to the hospital for evaluation. back to you. neighbor rescues woman. knocking down a door to safe an elderly man trapped in this burning home. they found him alone and covered in ash. nick how is this man? >> we are told he was conscious, even talking when he left this scene in the back of an ambulance. that was thanks to those neighbors who clearly had his back. larry was backing out of his driveway wednesday evening. his neighbor was on his way home from the store when the two men were confronted by the same sight. >> pulling around the corner and saw flames coming out of the back of my neighbor's hughes. >> the first thought that came to mind for both of them was a man who may be inside. >> my neighbor next door was an elderly gentleman that i knew he would be in the house. >> they said what happened next is now a blur to him. the two men charged toward the front door >> i went over and kicked the door in and he was laying in the kitchen on hisk. fire reached closer and closer they couldn't breathe long enough to carry the man out in one attempt. but they wouldn't let the smoke stop them. >> it was bad. it was just heavy black smoke. it was tough to breathe. i had to back out a couple of times. then -- just the third time is a charm i guess. >> by the time rescue crews arrived the house was consumed that their elderly neighbor was home. it would have been a dissan -- disaster. >> i was just glad i was there. >> it was nice. we were able to save him. >> and that they did. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. back to you. and a deadly fire in charlton. the victim is an elderly man. from sky eye you can see the damaged. right now we don't know what started the fire. tonight a boston attorney is facing rape charges. gary zerola is being held on bail tonight. he is accused of sexually assaulting a woman he knows earlier this month. this is the fourth time zerola has been accused of sexual assault although he has never been convicted. tonight we are hearing from the wife of a man that was shocked while putting up his holiday display. new hampshire, sent 20,000 volts surging through his body. >> an explosion and looked out and saw -- a cloud of smoke and i could -- you could smell that wiry burning smell. then his eyes starting rolling back and -- i just kept slapping his face and saying stay with me william, stay with me. >> bill was putting up his christmas lights when he accidentally hit the power line to his home with a pole. fortunately the pole was also touching the ground so his body didn't take th doctors tell us they are monitoring him for internal injuries as well a man accused of dragging two boston police officers and hitting two more with his car is under arrest. the officers were responding to a could of a man with a gun. they say they approached vincent weeks in his car and he took off dragging the twufrss off -- officers and hitting the other two as they tried to stop him. a tragedy in detroit where the wayne state university night has now died. officer collin roads was just 29 years old. he was investigating a possible car break-in at the time. police have arrested a man but not yet charged him a sixth child has now died from injuries from that horrific bus crash in chattanooga. police route that was not part of his -- [ indiscernible ] and republican donor and charter school advocate betsey to lead the education department. trump is spending the holiday at his estate in palm beach, florida. tonight he released a thanksgiving message designed to unite a divided country after the election. >> it is my prayer that on this as one country strengthened by sheered purpose and very, very common resolve. >> tonight president obama and the first family served thanksgiving meals to retired members of the military in washington. there are about 400 veterans at the armed forces retirement home. the president thanked the men and women for their service a show of support for two officers who were shot in the line of duty. tonight boston police teamed up b hockey game in their honor. >> both officers are now recovering at home. katie is live in east boston. an awful lot to be thankful for tonight. >> well those two officers were in rough shape but tonight they are both out of the hospital and even attended an event in their honor. they only had to walk into that building to know how much they are appreciated. every one knew this game was the boston police stood ready. >> [ indiscernible ] >> but the spotlight shown on officers matt and richard. both men from the east boston precinct barely survive add shootout with a suspect who ambushed them in mid october. the suspect was killed. >> i can't wait to see them. >> morris with the sling on his arm and dropped the first puck. >> we all pulled together. >> almost eve one or both men. former new england patriot who is playing as a bruin grew up in east boston. >> you want to go out and help out in anyway. >> supporting all the men and women in blue was top of mind?
