eric it looks like matthew may get stronger as it approaches. >> that is a kwrn here. this is the latest -- that is a concern here. this is the latest picture. it was battling off that land interaction today with haiti and cuba. seeing that eye trying to pop out again. the satellite presentation is bert. that is concerning for the -- better. that is concerning for the bahamas and jamaica. it's moving to the north ws at at ten miles per hour. it's set to hit the entire east coast of florida. there's a tropical storm warning farther inland. here's a look at the track into the overnight and tomorrow morning. the eye is expected to go over nassau in the bahamas towards tomorrow morning. a serious situation there. then as we head towards the afternoon and evening the eye is offshore of miami. coast all the way up of florida. so that is nearly a worst case scenario to the course of late thursday and friday. for us a close call but looks like a miss. what impact it may have on the weekend coming up. >> people taking this seriously. drivers are jamming florida highways. o officials are -- officials are urging two million to evacuate. >> many store shelves store up. >> in florida store shelves empty as people stock up with supplies. the deadly storm is churping in warm waters with the united states in its path. >> it's expected to strengthen as it gets closer to florida. people have less than 24 hours left to prepare, evacuate, and shelter. >> the entire state of florida is under a state of emergency. parts of georgia and the carolinas also under states of watchful eye on the storm. >> anyone that's trying to wait this out we ask you to take caution and try and heed what everybody else is doing. >> today president obama met with fema officials in washington that agency has deployed personnel to florida, georgia, south carolina, and north carolina. >> hurricane matthew is blamed for 16 deaths in the caribbean. that will probably go up unfortunately. the storm is roaring over the streets virtually empty and many of the resorts shut down. in haiti rescue teams are struggling to reach towns cut off by the hurricane. the united states military is flying in helicopters and troops to help. we don't know the full extent of the damage. it is bad enough that haiti has postponed it's presidential elections that were scheduled for sunday. >> in cuba matthew destroyed hundreds of homes and damaged hundreds more. trees are down. naval base are down. it has forced the cancellation of 1600 flights nationwide. that will glow over the next -- grow over the next few days. we pick up coverage in logan where some of the last flights out of florida were arriving there. >> that's right david. travellers are telling me as the storm grows closer their anxiety grows. guest they did not bargain for. >> as hurricane matthew whipped towards florida one massachusetts couple had their own adventure. >> we went from here down to jacksonville stations already. >> some airports like fort lauderdale shut down but there's not only concern over travel but also the loved ones left be hind. >> we do have a -- behind. >> we do have a >> four students caught the infection including three members of the high school football team. >> my son said he needed to bring all of his football pads home to clean them. >> the superintendent notified parents on the district's school is out thursday due to previously scheduled conferences but administrators are taking advantage explaining westford academy understands the urgency of would rather die than eat clam chowder. >> that very concerned about florida. glad to see they are preparing and getting ready for what could be a very devastating storm across the bahamas and much of florida. here's a look. a little eye again. it's expected to become a category four hurricane towards the northwest. by late tomorrow evening it's just offshore of west palm beach. one thing to keep an eye on this is a little reminiscent of coast. that could add a boost before it comes onshore. it is expected to make landfall and no place north of west palm beach has had a category four make landfall since 1851. this is a rare spot. you see the track towards the georgia, south carolina coast. it might loop back but that's a story for another day. looking at those wind gusts, the over 119 miles per hour there. there's an unconfirmed report tonight of 140 miles per hour. strongest winds near the center. looks like it's going to move up i-95, the whole coast of florida. and so that is going to include every the town and city along the way. that's something that very rarely happens with a hurricane in that area. the e-rivy -- the heavy flood event. lots going on. we watch from new england where the weather is quiet and chilly. temps falling back already. some 30s out there. not much to report. a cold start to the day tomorrow. and the typical coldest spots might see a frost. if you know you're one of the colder towns might want to cover them up. jacket weather. by recess 60. warm up nicely tomorrow afternoon inland and 60s along the coastline. some patchy cloud cover across the cape and islands but not as dense as today. a repeat performance on friday. high pressure in control. perfect end to the week. a ton of sun. here's where matthew comes into a play a little bit. even though it's expected to stay well to the south some of that moisture can link with this front. the same front protecting us but guiding the rainfall northward. and and evening -- saturday afternoon and evening a chance of rain. that would be the timing. it will clear out on sunday. breezy and cool on. and columbus day monday looks fabulous. if you're heading north you picked wisely. near peak foe laj -- to laj -- some bright colors showing up. here's your seven-day. a little bit of rain from matthew but that is it. next week more dry seasonal weather in the forecast. >> eric
