Reporter kathryn we are live where that train finally came to a stop at the jfk u mass station, part of the investigation is trying to determine if any of those with causing this bizarre yet frightening ordeal. A run away train making a go just after 6 00 a. M. Thursday, the redline headed north to north quincy station with no operator on board. Sources tells wbz the nbta operator got off the train for a repair but was subsequently hit by it, it continued rolling on, we are told, at unknown speeds ignoring all station stops, it wasnt until operations crews depowered the rail that eventually it came to a halt. Of course creating severe redline delays. Nbta manager says passengers safety is the highest priority, and this highly troubling incident is under investigation by Transit Police detectives. In the meantime governor charlie Bakers Office is also responding to the investigation saying the governor is grateful no passengers were injured in this troubling incident and well be closely, this as the original operator is treated at south shore hospital. Reporter it was a seemingly normal commute about 6 15 this morning, 15 minutes into the was terribly wrong. Now there were six cars in all and we spoke with a passenger experience. The whole train started off. And everything just stopped down between quincy and jfk and minutes. One of about 20 passenger os be the redline train was without a conductor, only when they realize they were alone. We knocked on the door of the driver and nobody was there. What did you see inside . Nothing, it was all dark, everything was quiet. It was just odd, we had no idea what was going on. Reporter what is going through your mind now . It was just kind of scary, at first we received information gunshot and somebody was hurt. So my first idea was like, i am going to get out of here, at the same time i dont want to get out of here. Reporter the lack of information frustrating for passengers, many deciding they had to get out before t officials finally boarded. Some people were trying to break the windows, most people were trying to open the doors and some other people were trying to call and see what is going on. So i think many people know there was a train that left brain tree this morning that was unmanned, passed through four stations, stopped, passengers were let off. Thankfully nobody was hurt. The train itself was determined it was it was unmanned and traveling from brain tree within a couple minute thes when it left much the power on the third rail was should off at that point in time but the train coasted because it had moment em at that point forward through several stations before it came to a stop. Inspection of the train determined that some of the controls had been manipulated and there is an Ongoing Investigation that involves folks from the nbta from dot from what we can tell at this point, it appears to be an isolated incident. Governor is the fbi involved in the investigation to your knowledge . To my knowledge at this point they are not involved. I believe its Public Safety dot and the nbta. You said this morning it was tampered with. Manipulated with, tampered with. Its pretty clear that it was set in Forward Motion which is why it moved in the first place when the signal was manipulated. But as i said, within a couple minutes of it leaving the third rail was turned off and it coasted through several stations. The motor man who was what was his role to the best of your knowledge, it was something wrong with the train, got out to check it, is that something with the signal check the signal. And then it went forward. Last question. Something to do with the tampering. The investigation is going to obviously involve questions, people are talking to him and theyll talk to others as well. But i dont want to draw conclusions about that until the investigation is further along. Are people safe look, this is as i said at this point we believe this is an isolated incident and i think the system overall is running on normal schedule and in a normal way. This particular incident is being investigated on its own. But as i said within a couple minutes of that train leaving the station they cut the pow you are. To the best of your knowledge, is it conceivable, governor, this motor man put something in gear, oh, i mistake. I dont want to get too i think the big question at bill, is the right one.
