supposed to begin at 10:00 this morning. he got on stage the last 15 minutes or so. his plane was delayed coming into charlotte due to fog in the rea. he was supposed to land in hickory, but instead came to shooter and had to drive to hickory to get to the university. and moments into trump's addressing the audience, this happened here, a protester was escort out of the university, this was as he was discussing the wall he is was soon booed by the audience and escorted out of the building as you just saw. again, we will continue to watch this as it is happening now. we have images of protesters outside the trump rally as well. there's a designated area for them set up, separated from protests have been peaceful so far. they are not the only ones outside the auditorium. hundreds were told there were more tickets given out than seats inside. this afternoon, democratic candidate bernie sanders in charlotte a few hours ahead of his rival hillary clinton. the vermont senator at the pavilion. the event begins at 4:30 p.m. doors open at 1:30. registration is not required but admission is on a finally -- first come, first served basis. hillary clinton is scheduled to appear happened at the tryon square shopping center at craig head road. police say they found at least 7 shell casings in the parking lot. a man taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. police believe the shooting may be tied to the s and g social club. crowds have been gathering outside the club very late the past few nights. no word on arrests. eye woman is recovering off she was hospital following a mobile home fire in gaston county that broke out 8:30 this morning at a home on oak run court in bessemer city. e.m.s. took the woman to the hospital for smoke inhalation. firefighters are working to determine the cause. a man charged after police say he beat his daughter to death is asking for another attorney after he initially said he would represent himself. the trial of 49-year-old is county courtroom. investigators say he killed his six-month-old daughter four years ago. they believe she was repeatedly abused. the mother is also charged with murder. a judge must decide if the trial will be popd in order for another attorney to be assigned. he had fired the attorney he had before. we are in court covering this case with an update tonight. charlotte city council members set to vote tonight on how to develop part of the eastland mall property. city council could sell 11 acres to the school board so cms can build a new elementary school, this after prestigious plans for a movie studio, park and recreation complex failed. the school board is offering $600,000 for the land. expect to wait longer if you have to go to the dmv in amnesty week, drivers with certain suspensions may apply to have time rude or clear. the downpour of motor vehicles says it helps drivers with too many points. offices across the state tend to be more crowded during this week so keep that in mind. north carolina department of environmental quality will host a public meeting in cleveland county to discuss issues concerning the duke energy coal ash basin, at 6:00 at the boiling of an amtrak train derailment in southwest kansas, traveling from los angeles to chicago when it derailed after midnight injuring nearly 30 people. >> reporter: dozens of passengers went flying when an amtrak train jumped the tracks in the middle of the night near >> personnel respond to the derailment. >> reporter: first responders raced to free passengers trapped. >> evacuating some of these people out the top. >> reporter: carrying 128 passengers and 14 crew, it was traveling from los angeles heading for chicago. 25-year-old was reading on board. he felt turbulence that, quote, turned push toward the north carolina mountains. so that threat for severe weather is with us here in the charlotte area, and really stretches from the mountains all the way across the piedmont for this afternoon. so hail a distinct possibility with some of these storms. winds, damaging straight line winds a possibility. the tornado threat is very low. really, from the mountains all the way to the sand hills, it is late afternoon and this evening where we see the severe thunderstorm threat. mountains today in the low 60's. afternoon showers and storms, a good possibility. looking at morganton, 73, 80 wilkesboro this afternoon. temperatures across the piedmont 80 statesville, 76 gastonia, 80 charlotte, 77 albemarle, upper 70's, low 80's wadesboro this afternoon. and here comes that system. this is 10:00 p.m. tonight. the mountains first get going, 5:00, 6:00, then 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 in the charlotte area, then quickly pushing to the east through the overnight, and we are quiet tuesday as we head into wednesday with another weakening front sliding into the north carolina high country tomorrow night. wednesday night, i should say, thursday morning, a small chance of showers, then we take the shower chances up again in the weekend saturday and sunday. highs tomorrow low 80's across the area, looking at your seven-day forecast, again, it is tonight, after 6:00, showers and thunderstorms a possibility. before that, with we head to the 80 degree range. cloudy and 69. showers and thunderstorms a possibility as we head into the weekend, cooler temperatures, 63 saturday, 60
