who shot and carjacked a security guard near johnson c. smith university overnight. the guard is in the hospital right now. he told police the shooter flagged him down on roslyn avenue and stole his toyota camry. that is the 6th shooting in charlotte since tuesday leaving one person dead and nine hurt. charlotte city councilors considering a request from kerr putney for more police officers after the spike in crime. pamela escobar is live at cmpd headquarters tonight with the recent incidents this week. it may feel like crime is getting worse. >> well, paul, i received new numbers from cmpd today. now, while this week is a violent week compared to this time last year overall assaults with a deadly weapon decreased by 6.2% involving guns. homicides are down. chief kerr putney asked council to pay for 125 new officers and 80 staff to deal with the growth in crime. councilwoman leads the community safety committee and said the model has been successful but they need more officers to build relationships in neighborhoods so they can be aware of it and work with the neighbors to find out where it's coming from. >> i think the prospects of them getting some of what they are asking for are good because we have identified this as the most important priority of the council. having said that the process is to turnover every stone and i know it's incredible that we don't have the money to pay for staff which is about $19 million. >> the budget process has to be complete by june. at that point, the police department will know how much money city council has been able to find to lawmakers moved our primary date up. remember we used to vote in may and by then the races were decided. and where we are headed. this is all about the delegates. and as it stands right now, here on the republican side, you can see donald trump has 456 delegates in the bank. that puts him 37% of the way to the 1237 needed to secure the nomination. here is the rest of the board. ted cruz 356. marco rubio 148 and kasich with 52. up until now most delegates have been handed out on a proportional basis split up depending on the totals in each state that begins to change next week not here in north carolina we have 72 delegates up for grabs. but those will be divided. similar stories in illinois, and missouri. you can see the delegates at stake there. a different story when you get to florida and ohio. those states are going to have a combined 165 delegates up for stake. it is going to be a bruising fight as if it has not been already. a lot is going to be decided over the next around the gulf coast states and you see the chunks making their way through the ohio valley and we are getting a shower or two into the area but nothing organized and you will see the clouds and maybe the sun filtered a times as the temperatures are in the low 70s. and we are thinking at the airport maybe we will be closer to 72 . but overall you get the idea low to mid-70s and into the mountains we will be in the low 60s. and by your standards that is mild. and closer to 70 in the foothills. just about everybody will leave that 30% chance of rain. no wash-outs. low 7s in the piedmont and low to mid-70s in the upstate of south carolina and isolated you can get backup into the upper 70s. and now we take you into the sunday time-frame. and suddenly this is beginning to make progress here. notice your time 7:00 a.m. for sunday services we are not seeing widespread rain and then it starts to get more and more into the core of our viewing area. and mountains and foothills during the midday. and then you will see the boundary coming here with organized rain during the afternoon and then it will continue to slide off. sunday late things will start to dry out again. and the seven-day first-alert forecast, here you go. low 70s on saturday with the showers around. just here and there. but the better chance of rain will be on sunday. the upper-level low and that is
