Education experts make visits to charlottemecklenburg schools classrooms. They have been in town for four days to see what is working and what is not. Part of the School Districts accreditation process. This happens every five years. Wbtvs education reporter Dedrick Russell is on your side finding out if your childs diploma will be as valuable. Dedrick what have they learned . Well, jamie, i can tell you the experts told the school board, the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to cms. The bad is that experts are concerned the district has no way to determine if graduates are college and career ready once they graduate from cms. Experts told cms to work on that. And now the good in all of this is that at the end, cms did pass say cms still has a long way to go. Up on the fifth floor of the government center. Cms was told it lacks stability. And when it comes to a superintendent. As you know there has been a high turnover rate when it comes to charlottes top educator and it was told that prevents the district from going to the next level. And the team they talked to about 1200 people ranging from parents, students and teachers about cms. Those experts wrote down their thoughts. Listen to this. Really making sure that all teachers and students and principals have access to the same opportunity throughout the system depending what school you are in and what part the county you may have more opportunity and that needs to even out. That was another bad part. And the ugly part is that experts toured facilities and told cms some facilities are lacking and need much improvement. One thing they talked to a fourth grader and that fourth while in the classroom. And the experts told cms to work on teaching and learning because if that student was engaged in the classroom that student would not have been bored. The experts are giving cms about two years to address this and try to turn these things around. Dedrick russell wbtv on your side. Really interesting insight. Thank you.
