>> and i'm jeff barnd. july 4th tonight over a speed camera vehicle we caught speeding. >> it's a story you saw first on fox last night, and tonight jeff abbll has the fallout. >> reporter: if you've driven through an interstate work zone lately, you may have seen a parked vehicle just like this one. they are part of the state's speed camera program but instead of enforciig the law over the weekend, it appears one of these vehicles may have broken the law. on sunday a motorist used an iphone to capture pictures of the vehicle speeding down interstate 70. the motorist estimates the vehicle was going 80. today administrator neil peterson fired off a letter to acs, the company that administers the state speed camera program and demanded immediate action. >> the company is cooperating in terms of the nvestigation to establish who the violater was. this clearly was unacceptable from a safety perspective. somebody driving that fast is creating a safety issue not just for themselves but other drivers. >> reporter: state officials are also demanding that that company reexamine how it trains its operators. it's ordered a meeting later this month. jeff abell, fox 45 news at 5:30. >> in the year since the state launched the program, the speed cameraes have been snapping motorists at a fierce pace. more than 158,000 motorists have been cited for speeding through interstate work zones. that amounts to $6.3 million in fines. however the state says those cameraes have reduced speeding in work zones by 45%. and that brings us to our question of the day. do you morning anne arundel road. firefighters say they found the bodies when they were sifting through the rubble after the fire was put out. if you see breaking news we want you to see it, shoot it, send school in baltimore city cleaned out by burglars last friday night. karen parks outside the school to tell us what was taken. >> reporter: this happened here at the purpose and potential christian arts academy here in northeast ballimore. friday night some time into saturday morning the burglars broke into this window right here behind me, a classroom window now covered with brown paper. one inside police say burglars sold school supplies, music equipment and 17 brand new computers that the school purchased with an $8700 grant, the only grant they receive once a year. the students, all 60 of them, used the computers for two weeks before they were stolen. >> and i doo't know words to describe what happened because i know how hard they work to get what they get. a lot of times we -- they got these computers for us so we can, you know what i mean? when we get to the college level we know how to use certain things on the computer because you can't do anything as well without computers. >> reporter: it could be this time next year before the computers are replaced. coming up on the news at 10, i'll tell you how this crime got personal. reporting live here in northeast baltimore, karen parks, fox 45 news at 5:30. state recalls want a financial innestigation into the prison system. an audit revealed recently lax record keeping. the audit discovered a $200,000 gap in the books but criminal activity is not suspected. >> i don't personally believe and i can't say this for a fact, i don't believe there was criminal activity but we'll find out. it's being looked at. >> reporter: the department is rerouting all record keeping to one office for better accountability. the mayor heads to miami on a family vacation and taxpayers foot the bill for her security. the spending panel approved almost $900 for a police officer who accompanied mayor stephanie rawlings-blake on a july vacation to florida. >> the sergeant knew where we were staying so if something happened here and he had to get3 me back to baltimore, he knew where we were staying but he wasn't there to cart me around. >> the mayor says traveling with security is a city policy. it's our duty to watch. more gloomy econnmic news tonight. annapolis's deficit now stands at $1.6 billion. maryland's medicaid program was heavily funded by federal stimulus dollars. additional federal money is of being used to support that program. take that out and we have to find new revenues to support it from the general fund. >> still governor martin o'malley says next year's budget has no new tax. how are the roads looking tonight? lauren cooke has our traffic edge report. lauren? >> thank you, jennifer. we are looking at many of our main lines, only 21 miles per hour on northbound 95. it's realll going to be slow on those northbound lanes from 395 past the tunnel toll to keith avenue where a disabled car is blocking one lane. it's going to be packed on the west side. speeds are only clocking in here at 40 miles an hour. here's a look at delaney valley road. you'll notice cars are ppcked on the inner loop and outer loop. volume will also be on the roads and on the harrisberg expressway. we do have our share hare of accidents in anne arundel county that you want to watch out for as well. route 100 will be shut down between route 10 and katherine avenue. we do have another accident that shut down the west-bound lanes of route 175. you do wann to stick with clark road as our alternate. as you head north another crash on nursery road at 295. that's a look at our evening travels, jeff robocalls on election night faces federal charges tonight. >> the political operative paid by the early camp could now be forced to pay millions of dollars if he's convicted of civil charges. >> keith daniels standing by live in east baltimore with the latest twist. >> reporter: we're live on north decker avenue outside of the home of julia simpson. we tried getting a comment from him about those charges but there was no answer at the door. him and his company, universal elections, are accused of being behind those calls that touched off a storm of controversy. >> relax, everything is fine. the only thing left is to watch on tv tonight. >> reporter: accused of violating the telephone consumer protection act with those calls by not identifying the source of the cclls and by not providing a callback number. according tt the complaint, his company paid for the automatic phone calls on behalf of the bob ehrlich campaign. attorney general brought the charges today. he believes the calls were disguised to do serious harm. >> this was with the intent to suppress voter turnout much like literacy tests and poll taxes in the past, we do not tolerate this type of behavior in maryland. >> reporter: if convicted of several charges, hanson could be forced to pay damages of $500 per call and he believes about 112,000 calls were made and he's looking for triple damages which means that henson could be forced to pay damages of more than $160 million. meantime the attorney general says there's no indication that ehrlich knew anything about these calls. of course we'll have more oo a reporter interview aid family member. that's of a mourner walked up to the crew member and punched him in the face. cameras from another tv station were rolling at the time ann caught the entire thing. the photographer wasn't seriously hurt. two people were arrested. >> a handicapped man is being held a hero tonight after coming to a clerk's rescue. larry scott king was shopping in a canadian convenience store of a robber suddenly demanded cash from the store clerk. surreillance cameras catch the whole thing here. larry catches the suspect in a headlock subduing him until the clerk calls
