joel d. smith takes a look at energy's cost of staying cle. clean. nat: 5108 our sort of plan is to bring yoga into an urban environment nat: and that's what they're doing at charm city yoga in midtown.... where they specialize in "hot yoga".. the temperature is set to reach 90 degrees, so the people are drenched with perspiration. but all that heat in this big building, makes their bottom line sweat too. 4840 its about half our rent, so it could be about 1500 dollars per month to heat this studio/ so with that much going to the power company already, co-owner chris blades made a surprising move. he asked constellation energy if he could pay ... even more! 4212 many many more customers have environmental goals in mind when they purchase their electrictiy, and buying renewable energy credits is one way for them to meet those goals. an energy credit allows constellation to buy renewable energy on your behalf. but that powr is harder to get.. so the credit costs 5-percent more than a normal bill. 4347 so they're issued to the generator of renewable energy, say a wind farm and we buy it from them, and that provides them a source of income they can use to support, developing more renewable energy resources.that's what these customers and staff at charm city yoga want too... but there is a limit. they can't go into the red, just to stay green. 4950 when we started buying it i thought the premium was 10 %, over norm for non-green. and i think our ceiling will be aboutg 20%. more. that would be real problem for us, stand up:27:16 maryland requires energy providers to turn in a certain amount of the renewable credits each year. right now its 5 % . but by the year 2022, its 20%. but president obama thinks we can go even but president obama 2022, its 20%. but president obama thinks we can go even further, and he thinks the marketplace will eventually follow. 3 " clean energy breakthroughs will only translate into clean energy jobs if businesses know there will be a market for what they'reselling. so tonight i challnge you to join me in setting a new goal. by 2035, 80% of all electricity will come from clean energy sources."4207 so renewable energy credit purchases are growing tremendously. we've seen ours grow 5 fold over the last 4 years, many many more customers have environmental goals in mind when they purchase their electrictiy. that's a good trend.. but in the future, with costs continuing to rise, there will always be a delicate balance between finding the best price... and the greenest. joel d. smith, fox 45 news at ten. 3 the school delays keep coming in. garrett county is now closed.. and dorchester and queen anne's county are delayed by two hours. the up to the minute list.. coming up. up. and.. the steelers super bowl underdogs?
