national captioning institute --www.ncicap.org-- >> you're watching wbal-tv 11. live, local, late-breaking. this is 11 news today at 5:00 a.m. >> good morning. i'm mindy basara. >> and i'm stan stovall. thanks for joining us for 11 news today. >> there has been more snow in an unusual place. >> arizona. two inches of snow on the 18th green. >> i've been out there a couple of times when it snowed. people would run out of their houses. there are kids that have never seen snow from phoenix. >> and the maryland -- no snow. we have the cold this morning but knows no no sn ow. 23 at the airport with little wind. we will make it up to 39 this afternoon with a few clouds. we have some rain and maybe some snow in the seven-day forecast. >> a busy start on the northeast corner of the beltway. all lanes are temporarily blocked because of a tractor- trailer accident. that is causing some closures. we are watching for delays around harford. we are seeing southbound delays on 95. 55 on the north side. running smoothly on the west side. an accident at 216 in howard county. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> and overnight freight train derailment shatters a quiet cecil county neighborhood. this happened just after midnight in elkton. nearby road toward shut down for several hours. nobody was injured. >> a strange job interview is about to take place in anne arundel county. jennifer franciotti is live in annapolis with details on a meeting to replace john leopold. >> these interviews will take place in public. public in views of all 16 candidates. it was last friday that was the filing deadline to fill the remainder of john leopold's term. he resigned after a judge found him guilty of misconduct. among the candidates, john hammond, kendel ehrlich are in contention. >> we begin the process of pursuing a new vision for anne arundel county and make our county a model for the rest of maryland. >> several have said they will not seek election once the term ends. reporting live, jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. >> a former gynecologist secretly recorded his patients. dr. nakita levy used spy devices including a pen camera. hundreds of potential victims have already come forward and it hot line has been set up to field more calls. some are stunned. >> i gave anesthesia frequently for him when he was delivering babies. he is an excellent physician. his patients liked him. it is shocking. >> dr. levy took his own life 10 days after he was fired. >> one juror is surprised that johnson is a filing for a new trial. he said the strongest evidence came from his own mouth in the form of recorded phone conversations with family members. >> he didn't act like he was emotional. he didn't, not in one conversation he never claimed he was innocent. all he talked about was the consequences behind everything. like questions about how much time would you get for first- degree murder? what countries to extradite? >> he said the recent attorneys gave further appeal did not factor much into their decision making. >> city police were not supposed to be in a training mission in the first place. there were conducting training exercises without authorization from the state. that is where a trainee was shot in the head after an instructor grabbed the wrong weapon. a top prosecutor is promising a full investigation into a death with the ounces from -- down syndrome. robert saylor died. the death has been ruled a homicide. charlie smith will decide whether to bring criminal charges against the officers or to present evidence to a grand jury. >> there was a murder-suicide. police say candace baird was shot and killed around 6:00 p.m. on tuesday night. a young child was found at the scene unharmed. >> baltimore is being courted to host the olympics. this would be the summer games of 2024. the mayor says it is too early to think about that right now. >> 3-4 years leading in and the legacy afterwards and how you take advantage of that. that is where the economic return is. >> the biggest hurdle is the price tag. that brings us to our water cooler question of the day. would you want to see baltimore host the summer olympics in 2024?
