>> live, local, latebreaking. this is 11 news at 6:00 p.m.. >> good morning. temperatures are on their way way down tonight. we go to meteorologist john collins. >> there is still snow and rain in the area, still part of that storm the winter overnight last night. this morning at daybreak it was raining in baltimore, but the snow did have some minor accumulations up to the north of us. it made for a few slippery spots. further southed i and is concentrated on the eastern shore. some snow, rain mixed in especially when you get down south below ocean city. this is related to a development offshore that will become a nor'easter, not of a huge size, but it will effect the east coast more north of up towards new england. and right along the eastern seaboard, as opposed to us. the northwest winds feeding into that are going to provide us with plenty of cold and plenty of wind. we will talk about that coming up. >> dozens of accidents in the area, all winter long. one of the worst, a crash that killed a young math teacher early this week. the westminster community remembered his personality and his gift. sarah simpson has more on the memorial and the people that he touched in his short career. >> by all accounts, devon spence was dynamic, the kind of teacher who really cared about his students and wanted them to do well. this afternoon, many of them came out to say goodbye. >> 24-year-old devin spence had only been teaching at manchester valley high school just over a year. students he taughtthe ,, his influence will last a lifetime. >> he was like my best friend. i look forward to his class every day. >> he understood what the students needed. >> early morning, he was on his way to school when officials say that he collided with a bus. he died at the scene. officials say icy conditions may have contributed to the crash. saturday afternoon, the loss still raw, hundreds of students, colleagues, friends and family packed the school to remember the young math teacher. administrators say that spence's parents reached out to them with the idea of holding the memorial here to get the school community that he loved so much a chance to grieve. >> as much of a loss that we feel for ourselves, we feel a loss for the school and this community as well. >> his parents, margie and michael, say they knew if and when devon was but he had a future as an educator -- when devon was young they knew that he had a future as an educator. >> even though devon and his gift may have been taken away too soon, all it takes is one look around the manchester valley auditorium to know it was not wasted. >> if he had lived, he would have blazed a trail that would have affected so many lives in the years to come. for that, we are sorry. >> spence was a recent graduate of towson university. he ran a private tutoring company and we were told he was going to be an assistant lacrosse coach at the school where he taught. wbal-tv, 11 news. >> the red cross is working with a group of columbia residents who were forced from their home by an early morning apartment fire. these are pictures of what was encountered at 4:00 at indian road. the fire reached two alarms before the flames were able to be put out. thanks to smart detectors, all nine residents in the apartment were able to get out safely. howard county fire marshal's all still working less astronomical. we are seeing a storm here, that passed through as a cold front last night and early morning. it is still kicking precipitation back. mostly east of the bay. central and southern portions of the bay, a little bit of southern maryland. most of it is light snow. could be a little rain mixed in, especially in the south. heaviest precipitation in the form of snowflakes right along the coastline. whatever it is there is of melting as it hits the ground. that will be around for tonight and part of tomorrow as well. more on that in a minute or it 37 was the high at the airport -- effect snows into our area during the day tomorrow. the jetstream is shut up now, so there is a lot of energy at the bottom of these jets when the flow like this. that will help spin the storm into this vicinity. that is one of the triggers you get for coastal storms. it will drag it right up the coast in the next 24 hours. this up and down the coast, and tomorrow, we will probably see some snow streamers coming out of the northwest on some strong northwest winds. 20 42 -- 34 to -- 24 to 29 tonight. 32 to 38 the high. over on eastern shore, they could see storm amounts of an inch or two. futurecast showing the snow beginning to be strung out along the coastline. the eastern portions get stuck with that and tomorrow we may see some snow showers. for tomorrow and on monday, presidents' day, washington's birthday, we will be in the 30's for highs. snow showers tomorrow. tuesday, warm enough for rain. we could see a rain and snow mix as we go to friday and saturday. >> every
