the ground. emergency crews have given the all clear about half an hour ago to reopen the mdot building behind me. some employees were let back in. the incendiary device was found on the fourth floor. let's take you back to when it's all unfolded. it was around 12:45 p.m. this afternoon when employees here at the building called 9111 an unnamed employee called -- called 911 when an unnamed employee opened a suspicious package. smoke immediately started pouring from it. there are no known threats to the mdot building. after the incendiary device was found, allstate meal worms were shut down. as far as with the address -- the package -- all state mailrooms were shut down. as far as to the package was addressed to, we are not sure. gov. o'malley told me yesterday that this particular package was addressed to the maryland transportation secretary. we do not know if she open the package. but it was open on the fourth floor of the building where her office wais. we will explain why this is being called incendiary rather than explosive. >> the bomb technicians examination of both of these packages, there were no explosives in either package. there was an indication that it was some sort of incendiary device. when the package was opened, that it needs -- ignited the incendiary action. that is what i'm talking about as an incendiary device verses an explosive device. >> eight people were actually affected by this, what is being called an incendiary device. the good news is that there were no physical injuries to any of these people. the person you open the package went to the hospital, and three others near it also went to the hospital. the other four declined going. but that is good news in the fact that no one received any physical injuries from this particular device. we do not know whether the transportation secretary was the one who opened it and if, in fact, she was at least injured emotionally by this. the hanover building will be open business as usual tomorrow morning. as we told you, there was another suspicious package found about half an hour before this one schear. -- this one here. for more on that, david collins. >> the package was delivered to d jeffrey building, the burk building right behind me. thankfully, the person who did open the package did it receive some singed fingers, but they didn't refuse treatment it was described as incendiary -- they did refuse treatment. it was described as an incendiary in nature. it was addressed to gov. o'malley. it was the size of a hardback book and was addressed to gov. o'malley. as a mailroom employee began to open a, a reaction occurred. >> this was the action by the employee. it was addressed to gov. o'malley. when the employee opened the package there was an initial flash of fire and smoke and a smell n.m. -- emanated from that reaction. the employee reported his fingers being singed, but refused any type of medical treatment. >> a state fire marshal were bought rendered the package safe. no explosive material was found in it. authorities are not in a position to say immediately whether the package contained a note or any other messages associated with it. this was in no way a bomb or an explosive device. >> incendiary reaction occurred, producing a small flame and fire as the package was opened. >> all the mail is supposed to be screened. officials declined to to check with our mail room staff and ask if there were any unusual out of the ordinary packages that might have aroused some attention, and in fact, there was one. we get hundreds of pieces of every day. we have, as a precaution, ast the workers -- asked the workers to leave. >> officials tell us that the way that package looked suspicious, there may have also been a phone call made into the building about the package. that would have only increased suspicion. everything started to unfold about 3:00 p.m. this afternoon here, which was sometime after the flash an explosion of those earlier packages at the department of transportation at that the -- and at the office building in annapolis. the situation here is traffic. there is about a two-block section of martin luther king boulevard that is closed. officers are trying their best to manage the congestion that has been created here at howard street in particular. as everyone knows, martin luther king boulevard is a heavily used commuter route during rush-hour, especially the westbound side of it and that is what remains closed. we have been told it will be about 90 minutes before this scene was clear. we have only seen an increase in police activity in the last 15 minutes or so. we will have to keep you posted as they investigate a suspicious package in the mailroom here at the state office building that houses the school employee is arrested after police said they found child pornography on his personal computer. gregory alan christy faces charges of distributing child porn. >> it was in april when police responded to this home on timber field plays for a report of child pornography on a suspect's personal computer. a search warrant was executed and several computers were confiscated >> -- were confiscated. >> we used federal assistance to analyze that evidence and we came back with these results. >> yesterday, the suspect, 39- year-old gregory alan christy, was arrested and charged with one count of distribution of child pornography and 10 counts of possession. >> what we were able to determine through the center for missing and exploited children that these were known victims. in other words, these were victims from other locations, other jurisdictions, cases that had been adjudicated. they were already in his database. based on that, we charge for these. -- based on that information, we brought these charges. >> he has been in our school system since 1996. april of 2010 he was a physical education teacher at hertling woods elementary school. we became aware of the allegations and immediately reassigned him where he had no contact with children. he has been there since until yesterday. he has been immediately suspended from employment after the charges were filed. >> at this elementary school gregory kristie was a key teacher. >> there is no information that any of this conduct to place on the school campus. >> there is no evidence that is linked to anyone in anne arundel county or anyone at the school. >> and still ahead, parents panicked after research was released in the late 1990's linking vaccines to autism. now that research is being called vaccination rates dropped. >> this report comes as a new study finds the vaccine may have cut the number of chicken pox related hospitalizations. the cdc says 50,000 fewer cases were reported between
