good sunday morning. thanks for joining us i'm lex gray. with highs in the mid 20s. wind: n 10-15mph. monday: morning snow 40s. wind: e/se 5-15mph. increasing clouds by the single digits this am of low pressure moves towards our area. snow possible for the western noon...then to rain by late afternoon. rain follows us into tuesday. today -- firefighters will sift through what's left of four buildings down last night. they're also still on scene this morning, watching to make sure it doesn't reignite. this is what people who live in the apartments and condos had to see last night. they watched from cars and buses as their homes burned. the first calls from willougby spit started coming in around 7 last night. more than 60 firefighters responded as it burned out of control for about two hours. listen to this woman describe what it was like as it started. carolanne ventura /evacuated home c0048 56:10- "first i heard just getting worse with the wind look now it's heading over to that building over there. i just hope nobody got hurt." 56:24 firefighters rescued several people from inside. one man went to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. the red cross and east ocean view community center are helping people who lost their homes -- although officials people are affected. the fire knocked out power overnight -- as of now, it looks dominion is still working to restore power for xx homes. coming up in our next half hour of news, we'll have more from norfolk's chief about what made this fire especially difficult to put out. that's just one of many fires in hampton roads this weekend. the most recent is new this morning. crews in norfolk got called out to a fire at a house on parkview avenue near inlet road around one this morning. dispatch tells us it was a single story house that caught on fire. they say everyone made it out safely. however, the fire knocked dominion and virginia natural gas are on scene working to get power restored to the area. we're following up this morning on a fire in virginia beach that badly hurt two people....and killed a dog. we first told you about this as breaking news saturday morning. now, we can show you what it looked like. the virginia beach fire department shot this the fire started on victoria drive, off rosemont road around 4:30 a-m. firefighters found a woman outside...and pulled an unconscious man through a window. they say both people are in the hospital in critical condition. firefighters say one of the dogs barking alerted them to the fire. one dog died -- the other is expected to part. they had an addition on the house put in 15 years ago, give or take, and the addition is gone." the fire marshal's office says the house is too badly damaged to live in. investigators are still working to figure out how the fire started --- but they believe it's accidental. new this morning out of norfolk -- police are trying to figure out who shot two around two this morning. dispatch says someone shot one of the people in the hand, the other got shot in the leg. paramedics took both of them to the hospital. they are both expected to survive. if you know anything about this shooting, call crime line at 1-888-lock-u-up. the supreme court is mourning the death of one of its justices. justice antonin scalia died on vacation at a luxury resort in texas yesterday. he was 79 years old. a spokeswoman for the u-s marshal's service says someone discovered he had passed away after he did not show up for breakfast. president ronald reagan nominated scalia to the supreme court back in 19-86. he became the first italian-american justice. scalia was the most senior member of the supreme court for several years. he's been known as one of the most conservative justices during his time in the supreme court. he leaves behind nine children and more than 30 grandchildren. tributes to the late justice started as soon as the public learned of his passing. the flags at the u-s supreme court building in washington d-c were lowered to half staff...and people came out to pay their respects. a group of recent law school graduates say the wanted to honor a man they say the flags at the white house were also lowered to half staff in honor of firestorm in washington -- almost immediately after those in power learned of his death. president obama says he will move to nominate a replacement. if the nominee is liberal, that could tilt the high court in the democrats favor. there could be a huge political battle over whether the nominee gets a vote in the senate. the g-o-p could face backlash if an obama nominee is allowed to go through. yesterday, the president said the nomination of a supreme court justice is bigger than any one party. (applause) there is another debate scheduled for later this month in houston this morning on meet the press, trump, rubio, and kasich will join chuck todd to talk about last night's debate. the will all discuss their campaign strategies moving forward. you can see those interviews starting at nine right here on wavy tv 10. that's right after the today show. meanwhile on the democratic side, bernie sanders continued on the campaign trail. he made a stop in denver to talk to supporters about the issues he is focusing inequality. he used the walton family as an example as to why he says economic policies need to change. sanders says: "today in america, we have one people. and when we talk about the walton family, it's important to point out, that family, the wealthy family in america is the major recipient of welfare in this country." the next major stop for democrats is the nevada caucuses, which are being held next week. a man turns himself in to police after he is suspected of shooting three college students. police in daytona beach bethune cookman university students after a fight at a party saturday morning. one of the students died. police say postell ran away from the scene after the shooting, but soon contacted them and surrendered in the afternoon. he is facing murder and attempted murder charges. the school held a vigil for the student who died. he played for the school's football team. a man in minnesota is dead after exchanging gunfire with police. police say the got a call about a hit and run at an intersection in plymouth, which is outside minneapolis. when officers got there, they found the person wasn't hit by a car. someone had actually shot and killed them. a short time aftert that, police got a call about a gunman in an apartment complex nearby. that's when they exchanged shots with him. police later found the suspect dead. police are trying to figure out if are connected. two police officers in baton rouge are recovering after a suspect shot them during a chase. police say they got a officers saw calvin smith smashing a car in his girlfriend's house. a family friend says he suffers from a mental illness and recently attempted suicide. he tried to get away and that's when officers went after him. (unidentified law enforcement officer): "we and ended up here in suspect gets out of the fire." police shot smith. he is in the hospital in critical condition. the than 50 cars get caught up in a wreck on an interstate in pennsylvania. police say the crash happened around 9:45 yesterday morning just outside of philadelphia. tractor cars got tangled up across three lanes of traffic. more than 40 people had to be taken to the steffy says: "got up this morning and saw it wife went up over the hill and saw the accident.
