The family of Francisca Figueroa says she lived in the building on 13th avenue and has not been seen since. A huge blast apparently fueled by natural gas rocked the borough park neighborhood saturday afternoon. Eyewitness News Reporter dray dray. Reporter good morning already wee, on 13th avenue between 42nd and 43rd streets remain closed. Behind me you can see the sore spot which remains the focal point for investigators and crews working around the clock. On one hand they are clearing the debris. Other than the theyre working delicately realizing as they clear the rubble there is still one woman who is unaccounted for. You mentioned the power of that explosion that happened on saturday. Surveillance video captured the moment it happened here on the 4200 block of 13th avenue. It rocked the block. It rocked area, and debris from the explosion actually struck two men and a 9yearold who were walking by as the explosion happened. Now t is believed that 64year old ligia puello was standing in the stairwell of the Apartment Building when that explosion happened, and she was killed. Authorities say she really did not stand a chance of survival at all. Another tenant who lives on the second floor, 48yearold Francisca Figueroa remains missing this morning. Authorities say figueroa was in the process of moving and with her. That gas stove has now become the primary focus of the investigation as it could be the very source of the gas leak that caused the explosion. Meanwhile, investigators say they are conducting their search, and they are doing so very delicately. Fdny and nypd are taking it very slowly. Its an active investigation, still may be one body in the building. And back here live with a live look, you can see all that rubble and debris piling up in the middle of the street. Again, investigators still working, a number of members from the fdny are here as well. Five buildings were affected as a result of the explosion. Two of those buildings have to be demolished and a number of people were asked to leave the three remaining buildings, and they may be allowed to return sometime as early as today. We also know k9s were brought in yesterday and will assist investigators again as they methodically and slowly go through that rubble in their search to find Francisca Figueroa. It has been nearly 24 hours since a long island dermatologist was found in a Manhattan Building and how she died is still a mystery. Police are waiting for the medical examiner to determine Kiersten Cervenys cause of death. The 38yearold was discovered inside the doorway of 221 west 16th street in chelsea yesterday morning. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police dont know why she was there. All i know, she could have just been walking down the street to her car at the wrong time but it just seems like a very odd time of the day for Something Like this to happen. Everybody, like i said knows everybody around here. And for it to happen around 8 in the morning is a little strange. Police are examining video from a camera that was mounted outside the building. Cervenys husband has been 6 05. Weve learned overnight that a driver is now facing charges in a crash involving a bus that left a dozen people hurt in queens. Police say 24yearold chevon parchment crashed into a bus sending it into several parked cars and a home in jamaica saturday night after refusing to stop for police. After the crash, police say they found more than 60 baggies of crack cocaine in his car. Parchment is charged with drug possession and reckless endangerment. No one was seriously hurt. The mother accused of throwing her newborn daughter out of a bronx Apartment Building is due in court today. Jennifer was held in jail after the death of her newborn baby girl. The coast guard airlifted a woman and her baby to safety yesterday as flooding took over the streets of her neighborhood. Right now schools are closed and there are curfews in place the rain is not expected to let up anytime soon. Two coast guard cutters have searched through the night for any sign of el faro, the missing u. S. Cargo ship with 33 crew members aboard. A developing story this morning, were awaiting the results of a medical examiners report into the mysterious death of a prominent doctor, 38 yearold Kiersten Cerveny was found dead at an Apartment Building this chelsea 20 miles from her home on long island. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama is live on the scene with the clues that police are working with so far. Kala. Reporter right, lori. This is one bizarre story. Police right now have a search warrant. Theyre inside this building in the apartment sweeping it for evidence. It was the apartment that this doctor was visiting. So far police tell us theyve also interviewed everyone in this building, but no one is in custody. Police tell us 38yearold Kiersten Cerveny was found unconscious in this vestibule of the chelsea building yesterday morning. Cerveny is married. She has a family and was a doctor living on long island. Now the death of this dermatologist has a cloud of mystery surrounding it. Her friends told police they were out saturday night for a night of partying. That included drugs and alcohol. Police have not released details on what the long island mom was doing in this building, but the neighbors here want some answers. Some have even looked at the Surveillance Footage from the camera aimed at the front door of the building. Theres a woman that went in that didnt live in the building, and so she came out with a different person and that was all that was shown. Reporter so in addition to police interviewing the guys in the video, police have also interviewed her husband as well. All he knew is that she was out for a girls night, didnt know that anything else would be going on here, and also, later today an autopsy will be done. Now figueroa was on the phone with her sister mere minutes and we spoke with her sister through a translator. Hard worker. She never said no to anything. She was very calm, and she said she had to clean. It was less than 5 minutes and i never spoke to her again. Reporter while investigators are searching Francisca Figueroas family is suffering waiting on word to here. K9s are here on scene assisting as they delicately go through that rubble. Five buildings were affected as a result of the explosion. Two of those buildings had to be demolished and close to 50 people were displaced from the three remaining buildings, and they were assisted by the american red cross. Police say the 41yearold was dragged nearly 100 feet after being hit. The driver sped away without stopping. Investigators are hoping Surveillance Video from nearby businesses will help lead to an arrest. In the bronx we have learned new details about a shooting that left a woman dead. Police are trying to find this man, 31yearold amaro Jennifer Ortiz was shot in the head. Police believe the suspect trove off in a dark colored honda accord. New this Orange County and new York State Troopers arrested a man as he threatened to shoot people at the galleria mall in middletown. Police say Jeffrey Baker first confronted the staff and residents of a group home as they walked in the parking lot. He then allegedly threatened to shoot several women in a sears store. Baker was arrested inside the mall but no weapon found. A coast guard Training Exercise turned into a rescue when a man crashed his jet ski on the jersey shore. Now the man was out for a ride near Point Pleasant when he hit some rough water. A powerful wave knocked him over throwing the jet ski into a jetty. The coast guard helicopter from Atlantic City was training in that area. The crew spotted the man in the water and pulled him to safety. 6 38. Reporter good morning, this is still a very active scene with teams of investigators coming and going and working around the clock since saturday. Theyre removing that rubble you can see behind me. At the same time working delicately realizing theres still one victim unaccounted for. This is that Surveillance Video showing the moment the explosion happened on saturday afternoon. It is believed that 64yearold ligia puello was standing in the stairwell of that Apartment Building when the explosion happened, and she was killed. Another tenant who lives on the second floor, 48yearold Francisca Figueroa is still Authorities Say figueroa was in the process of moving and planned to take her gas stove. That gas stove has now become investigation as it could be the source of the gas leak that caused the explosion. Close to 50 people were displaced as a result of the explosion.
