We just learned that theres a verdict in the corruption trial of former new York Assembly speaker Sheldon Silver. Prosecutors say silver collected nearly 4 million in fees in exchange for official favors to realestate developers and others. He sent a note to the judge saying he could no longer serve interest. Break. The judge told the juror that the law protected him from retaliation and advised him to return to deliberations he did and once again a verdict has been reached. As soon as we know what it is, well let you know. The nypd is investigating a brutal attack on a person as a possible hate crime. It happened early sunday morning as the victim was walking into a building on 93rd street in Jackson Heights the 35yearold man who dresses as a woman was struck in the head and the face. Thrown the the ground and then slammed to a curve. The victim is in Critical Condition today. There are no suspects. Its not clear yet what sparked a five alarm fire in the bronx at a sprawling Apartment Building but investigators are trying to find out. The fire started earlier this afternoon near the top floor of the sixstory building on montgomery avenue in morris heights. Firefighters battled the fire from inside and on the roof. 11 apartments were damaged. One firefighter suffered a minor injury. Today in harlem, local leaders teamed up with one of hollywoods alisters in an effort to curb gun violence across the country. Spike lee was among those calling for change. Reporter we just learned from our reporter at the courthouse that former new york state Assembly Speaker sheldon guilty on all seven counts. He was on trial, the 71year old democrat for accepting payments, illegal payments and for earning more than a Million Dollars in illegal investments. And now the jurors have decided he is guilty of illegally accepting 4 million in payments. And earning more than a million illegally through investments. His lawyer has said he was entitled to work for payment outside of work. They felt they would come out of this trial vindicated but the jury spoke today guilty on all seven counts. Last tuesday. They took a quick break for the holiday. And then came back today. There was a minor distraction earlier in the day when one juror asked to be excused saying he had a conflict. The judge told him to keep working. Last week another juror asked to be let go. Again the judge claimed the other jurors were bullying her. The judge asked them to respect each others opinions and get back to work and today they have rendered their decision. Guilty on all seven counts.
