now, new york's number one news. channel 7 eye witness news. >> it was quite the man hunt to find suspect. >> a man goes on a wild and deadly crime spree attacking three different people in queens. a neighborhood on lockdown as cops hunt him down. it all ended with a showdown with police. we have details on what went down. >> this man is in police custody. he was shot by officers late this evening. police believe he attacked two people with a knife killing one and setting another man on fire all in the span of four hours. >> he also went after two police officers throwing on them a chemical inside this beer bottle. we have two reports for you tonight. we'll begin with eye witness news reporter sefan kim at the >> reporter: sandra, it was a chaotic day here. inside that liquor store two men were attacked. one was fatally stabbed and one was lit on fire. it started when the suspect slashed the neighbor in the face and it ended when cops opened fire on him down the street. shots fired by the nypd in astoria, queens. with officers responding with weapons drawn. it was a dramatic end for a massive man hunt for 23-year-old james dillon. it started at 11:20 when dillon slashed his 39-year-old neighbor in the face and neck. then just after 3:00 p.m. dillon enters this liquor store and gets into an argument with a 61-year-old man inside. 55-year-old owner of the store tries to break it up and kicks him out. dillon comes back fatally then lights the man on the fire. >> he would defend someone. that's george. he's the type of guy. >> reporter: just after 5:00 p.m. cops got a call of a burglary on progress on 42nd street. it was dillon and he was fleeing. two officer confronted him at his home on 36th street. >> the officers demanded the suspect drop a knife and bottle of excel rant he was carrying. he refused. the suspect sprayed the two officers with the liquid burning their hands and face. >> reporter: this is the knife and the bottle that dillon wouldn't drop. seven shots were fired and police aren't saying where dillon was struck >> we believe it was a psychological problem with the individual. he'd been treated in the past and families indicated he has not been taking medication recently. >> reporter: now dillon is in critical condition. the two surviving victims are residents shaken. sefan kim, channel 7 eye witness news. >> in all five people were attack and had one of the stabbings victims died of his injuries. the other four remain in the hospital include twog police officers with burns. eye witness news reporter lucy yang is on the upper east side with new details on the injuries. >> reporter: two high ranking police officers and one 60-year-old male victim are being treated here at new york hospital after being injured. officials report the 61-year-old male victim was sprayed with an excel rent and then set on fire. he's listed in stable condition and inspector and lieutenant for the critical response team were canvassing on foot when they authorities told dillon to drop his knife and bottle. that's when he splashed the officers with the content of his bottle burning their hands and face. >> the officer discharged the weapons shooting the suspect. both the inspector and the lieutenant from the critical response command were transported to the hospital in stable condition. >> reporter: now the first victim in today's string of attacks, the female neighbor was taken to a hospital for her injuries. she's in stable condition as are the two officers and the 61-year-old man being treated here. live on the east side, lucy yang for channel 7 eye witness news. >> thank you, lucy. former first lady nancy reagan is being remembered as her husband's closest adviser and fiercest protecter. she died of congestive heart failure. reagan library to lie in state. there the public will be able to pay their last respects. the governor of california has ordered all flags to be lower today half staff. there's a growing memorial outside the library. >> reporter: sandra, tonight we're inside the air force 1 pavilion. the library will be closed all week as it prepares to have the former first lady lie in state. people hoping to spend the day at the ronald reagan presidential library were only able to leave flowers in memory of nancy reagan. the library is closed while plans are put in place for the former first lady's funeral. >> i was so blessed to have met mrs. reagan on a couple of occasions for a book signing and just the work she did for breast cancer. >> reporter: those who came to pay their respects remembered nancy reagan as a first lady devoted to fighting substance abuse and a devoted wife to her husband, ronald, of 52 years. >> the first president i was able to vote for was president ronald reagan. the great thing about nancy is she was the first lady but also a human being. she stood by her man's side through thick and thin. >> i can't help but think of ronnie and nancy's last years together with taking care of him with the alzheimers. >> reporter: charlie wind brought his son to the library to teach him about the president and nancy's legacy. >> she was the president's closest adviser, best adviser. i would give her credit for many of the great things that, in my opinion, the president contributed to the country. >> reporter: nancy said farewell to her husband in 2004. it was two years ago on the ten she laid a wreath at his grave. in the coming days nancy will be laid to rest by his side. >> they'll be an opportunity for those in the public that would like to pay their respects and walk by to see her coffin and then towards the very end of the week is when we'll have a funeral service and she'll be buried next to president reagan. >> reporter: a date hasn't been set for the funeral. it will be a big event. about one thousand people will be on the guest list, including former presidents, heads of state as well as other dignitaries. two home to the frances in nassau county and they received life saving open heart surgery. >> that's something this country represents, should represent. i think she represented that extraordinary well and she represented us as people extraordinary well in showing that kind of compassion and consideration and care for others. >> those two children were adopted by the same family in the u.s. friends gathered in jersey city to remember the young girl. she was walking to school with her month mother last week and she was hit by an suv. the driver took off and he faces charges now in the deadly crash. a quick thinking teenager saved her life when she was loved onto subway tracks on queens. she was at the roosevelt avenue last night when a man in his 20s suddenly came up behind her and pushed her. she landed on the tracks and was able to squeeze between the platform and the wheels of an she made it out with minor injuries. police are looking for her attacker. the family of a driver shot outside a queen's nightclub is pleading for the shooter to come forward. 37-year-old robert castillo was shot in the head and is fighting for his life at the hospital. picture. on friday castillo just dropped off passengers at club purlu when the gunfire broke out. >> he's a son. he's a brother. he's a cousin. he's a father. he's a friend. so just please give yourself up. >> castillo's sister says it's too early to tell what will happen to her brother. he's in critical condition. castillo is marry and had has two daughters. labor and management from new jersey transit are scheduled to meet cloudy tomorrow night. back down in the middle 40s. it gets down to that for an overnight low. warmer on tuesday. 65. how about 70 degrees on wednesday. that's very close to a record. it would beat the record by a degree set back in 2000. earlier we thought this record was out of reach. now we're going for a high of 73. there could be a stray shower with a front moving through. otherwise it should be mainly dry. that will allow the temperatures to get so warm. we're a little cooler on friday behind the front. 58 for a high still and back in the low 60s next weekend and maybe showers
