A 16yearold High School Sophomore fell from the 7th story of the empty building on casselton avenue in new brighton friday evening. Marcus castillo was playing with friends at the closed site before he died. Now his family is devastated t mallory hoff has new details on this tragic fall. Reporter investigators tell us it happened on this 17 acre abandoned property. Investigators say the teen was inside of this dilapidated building with four other kids. Tonight were hearing from his mom and dad for the first time. Family members are mourning the loss of 16yearold Marcus Castillo of Staten Island. Clinging to each other and fighting through tears, his parents remember their son. Only 16 years old. [ crying ] hes beautiful. Hes lovely. Reporter investigators say the teen died of severe head trauma after falling 7 stories down an elevator shaft at an abandoned hospital or castleton avenue on Staten Island. The abandoned building has been closed since 1992. People say teens often make their way beyond fences like this and onto the abandoned property which is a popular hangout spot. Reporter construction workers are putting a new fence in place in front of the property as Police Detectives and Building Department investigators make their way through. Reporter the teens parents say they became worried when their son didnt arrive on time from school yesterday. They dont understand what happened here. In Staten Island, mallory hoff, channel 7 Eyewitness News. At least 97 people been killed in two near simultaneous bomb blasts that targeted a peace rally in the turkish capital of ankara. It happened sections a seconds apart outside the citys main train station. We have more.
