protesters clashing with police in riot gear just hours before the olympics get under way. and good evening. i'm tom llamas, in for david tonight. we begin with that breaking news from the streets of chicago. a deadly encounter between police officers and an unarmed black teenager driving a stolen are graphic. look at one officer's body camera as he fires at the stolen car. but the driver does not stop until he slams into another police car and runs away. later, we see him on the ground, but already mortally wounded. tonight, the chicago police have released nine separate videos. but authorities say the crucial the question is guy. here's alex perez in chicago. >> reporter: tonight, the chilling images. a police officer opening fire as a suspect speeds away in a stolen jaguar. a second camera shows a second officer firing, as the suspect crashes head-on into a police cruiser. the crash, caught on multiple the suspect flees on foot. officers give chase. these tense moments from nine newly-released body cams. officers running through backyards, attempting to catch up with o'neil, then stepping back, handcuffing him. missing from the images, body cam images of the fatal shot being fired. officials say that camera was not recording. >> i heard gunshots coming at us. b . >> but you're the one that shot the defendant. >> reporter: and concern about fallout. desk duty for 30 days now. >> cruicrucified, man. >> reporter:. >> as it appears right now, departmental policies may have been violated in the incident. >> reporter: tonight, the family calling for justice. >> it was disturbing. to be done. >> these police officers decided to play judge, jury, and executioner. >> and alex joins us live from chicago. what's the latest with the officers involved? >> reporter: well, tom, the three officers involved in this have been stripped of their badges, weapons, and police powers pending the outcome of the >> thank you. we move on to the extreme weather. in new orleans, a camera catches debris from a roof being blown off, as a twister blows right by. in phoenix, a flash flood catching drivers by surprise. here's steve osunsami on the trail of those storms. >> reporter: in new orleans tonight, families are cleaning up after an ef-0 tornado with near 80 mile an hour winds flattened three homes and flooded bourbon street thursday. twister. here's what it looked like on a home surveillance camera. >> when it happened, it seemed like you were in that moment as if it was going to be forever. you know? >> you by yourself, big brother? >> reporter: a neighbor live streaming pictures recorded strangers rescuing a man trapped in a building that fell on top of him. >> oh, my god, there's a tornado. oh, my god. >> reporter: a second tornado in florida thursday had wind speeds of near 100 miles an hour. in iowa, families watching this lake were amazed to see th waterspout. passengers flying above it recorded these spectacular pictures from their windows. tonight around phoenix, they're struggling through monsoon flood waters. cars were taking a bath, authorities had to rescue drivers, and thousands lost power after severe weather pushed through. this evening, the desert feels like florida. the tornado here finished off homes that were left behind by katrina. crews are working to clear this tom? >> rob, thank you. the southern heat that rob mentioned has claimed the lives of two more children left in a car. tonight, their father is facing manslaughter charges. temperatures were in the 90s in twin daughters in the car. they're the 25th and 26th children to die in a hot car this year, nearly double the number of a year ago. and a former acting cia director saying donald trump may pose a threat to national security. the controversy comes as donald trump is about to national security briefings. here's jonathan karl. >> reporter: in iowa today, donald trump turned the tables on hillary clinton, saying she's the one who lacks the temperament to be president. >> she's really pretty close to unhinged, and you've seen it. and she's like an unbalanced person. >> reporter: but trump is now under fire from former cia director mike morrell, who lashed out at trump in a "new york times" op-ed, writing he is not only "unqualified," but that morell, who has worked at the cia under democratic and republican presidents and ran the agency under president obama, goes so far as to suggest that trump is being manipulated by russian president vladimir putin, writing, "mr. putin played upon mr. trump's vulnerabilities by complimenting him." putin has referred to trump as a "talented and very colorful person." morell says trump "responded just as mr. putin calculated." >> i think putin's been a very stro l trump is gonna win and trump is leading the party. i will get along, i think, with putin. i said he was a strong leader, which he is. >> reporter: "in the intelligence business," morrell writes, "we would say that mr. putin had recruited mr. trump as an unwitting agent of the russian federation." this comes after trump is about to receive classified national security briefings. he raised eyebrows this week after he repeatedly claimed that he had seen video of the obama administration made to iran back in january. >> iran provided all of that footage, the tape of taking that money off that airplane, right? $400 million in cash. >> reporter: but no such video exists, and today trump seemed to correct himself, tweeting, "the plane i saw on television was the hostage plane in geneva, switzerland, not the plane carrying $400 million in cash." >> and jon karl joins us from the white house. and michael morell says that donald trump has taken policy positions in russian interest. >> reporter: he's released a written statement saying morell is a pawn of president obama. >> jon, i want to ask you about that fbi director called her answers truthful. but he said, today secretary clinton was asked if he mischaracterized her words. >> i've acknowledged repeatedly that using two e-mail a and i take responsibility for that. >> so, does that clear things up?
